View Full Version : Sega helping to make a Next Gen System, announcment at E3...

Pancake

The announcement on May 12th at 10:00am PST will send shockwaves throughout the industry and will be an unprecedented first in the gaming market. Sega intends to form an alliance with a major console maker and co-develop the next generation console with them. In turn, all Sega games will be exclusive to that console and the Sega brand will be affixed to the front of the console much like a "Dolby Digital" logo. Yes, Sega is becoming a brand identification.

So no Dreamcast 2, No Alex Kidd Gamecube, No BS.

Cheers.

Never even heard of that site just found the link on a gaming board. I hope it's Nintendo (If Real) I bet we would get a sequal to Nights and a new Phantasy Star...

Could we have the almighty DreamCube? I doubt it's real...

It's a load of crap. It's a merger, but I doubt it will be for another system. Just wait until E3. And wasn't there a thread about this already?

I got it from Gamefaqs but people have been saying this "Sega Informate" has been right before.

I actually think its false. However, there is evidence that supports this theory. I guess its E3 waiting to kill this. You know, as much as I want to say Nintendo, Sega would probably join up with either Microsoft (Since it has Sega's ESPN Football series online) or Sony (Leading worldwide).

Why would they go with XBOX? Their Titles have not sold well on the system (Even though they are some of the best) and Nintendo and Sega have always been the REAL leaders, Sony has it's console already planned.

Why wouldn't they go to X-Box? Last time I checked, Sega cancelled their sports games for GCN due to low sales, yet they kept them for the X-Box. Sega's games sell well on GCN, but to say they don't sell well on X-Box is just wrong.

Plus, Sega has worked with Microsoft in the past on consoles. Look at your Dreamcast. It runs off of Windows CE, a barebones version of Windows something or other.

I'm not saying I want them to go to X-Box or that they definitely will, I'm just saying that you shouldn't rule it out.

Actually, Nintendo did just release a bit of info about their new home console. The system will be backwards compatible with the GameCube. Not much but its something, right?

Now on topic, I actually think this story will be more then false. I mean, don't you think any of the companys would have even hinted something? Look at the DS, Nintendo hinted that like crazy but not a peep about Sega joining them?

On the other hand, this could be a good way to help give gamers what they want: online play. Since Nintendo does not want to invest money into it, maybe they are cooperating with Sega so they can get into the console business, and in turn, Nintendo gets a online service funded by Sega and they don't have to pay jack squate. Obviously a just my two cents but if Nintendo was smart, they would do this.

If this is the case, Sega joining another company to make a new console, then I hope it is Microsoft. Both Microsoft and Sega have been known for innovation in their repective fields, and I do believe theyt could work very well together.

...Not to mention I wouldn't have to have all my glorious Sega games scattered across four platforms at once...

Where are you getting this information? I'm fairly sure that aside from Sonic Adventure 2:Battle, the Sega games weren't selling as well on Gamecube as they were on X-Box. I mean, I've love to be proven wrong, but I'm not going to believe you off of one random statement unless you supply a source.

Ok, who? Just send me a link to the information or something. Because I'm going to remind you guys yet again that Sega pulled sports support for GCN due to low sales. And Sega's sports franchises were pretty big to them.

I know certain games sold very well on GCN, such as the Sonic games. Are you perhaps thinking of Sonic Heroes in particular? Because I'm fairly sure that the GCN version sold the best.

Also, I'm relating this to the US. I know that in Japan, games on the X-Box rarely break into the top ten. However, I've got no idea how games sell in Europe or other areas. I seem to remember hearing that it was fairly similar to the US.

Whoops my fault for saying GC sega games sold the best. It seems that PS2 sega games are the ones that sold the most with Gamecube coming in second and XBOX in a weak third. However

We can reveal today that Sony Computer Entertainment America has rejected all Sega Ages titles at point of submission by Conspiracy Games, a harsh blow to the perceived credibility of the series and the profitability of Sega's US retro IP push.

All games have been knocked back for stand-alone release in the US, falling foul of SCEA's recently implemented crackdown on smaller already-released titles hitting shelves as stand-alone software units. As you will be aware, SNK's US office was forced to bundle its King of Fighters and Metal Slug offerings into two double packs due to the same policy.

It is believed that Sega and Conspiracy are currently at the point of deciding which games will be released as part of which packs. Sega historians will be aware that the Sega Ages games of old featured up to four games on a single cartridge, with even the offering for the Saturn delivering three massive Sega hits - namely Outrun, Space Harrier and After Burner.

Expect a revised US and possibly European Sega Ages announcement at this year's E3.

Sounds like Sony doesn't really care much for Sega.

Although Sony has never really said it straight out, Sony (of America, at least) has had a policy to reject most 2D games. They did this during the early days of the PS1 to be different from all systems before them.

Its been rumored that one 2D game that is coming to the Xbox was originally for PS2 but Sony shot them down.

Anyways, while this doesn't completely loose te theory that Sony and Sega will hook up, it does make them less likely. Now who would Sega go to: the company with all their online titles or the company that sold the most?

Huh. Reminds me of Spyro the Dragon, in that NOTHING was 2D in that game. Even the text was 3D.

And off-topic, that is an awesome awesome sig, Skett.

Co-publishing The Matrix Online does not equal big news.
