Well there are many combination of id's and classes and it also depends on your playing style. But if it is a certain wep you are looking for you should go check the guides to find which id's would suite you best.

Okay. Start by picking your character class (or classes). Go with what you like. Whether you pick by statistics or appearance or a little of both is up to you. Different classes do different things better, and it's also possible to play most classes "against type" (melee Force, tech-casting RAmarl or HUnewearl, etc.). And, no matter how good the statistics, if a RAcast's feet clunking gives you a headache, if a FOnewm just looks too silly, or a HUnewearl's wardrobe choices give you strange tingling feelings, you won't have fun playing a class that bugs you aesthetically.

Once you've made your choice(s), then pick the Section IDs that give you rares to fit your classes. Check the rare drop charts at, for example, www.housoka.com/pso to give you an idea what you're looking for. Generally, Redria, Purplenum, Whitill, Skyly, and Viridia tend to be liked by more people either for their section-ID exclusive drops (like Redria's God/Battle) or for their overall excellence, but every section ID has its good points and they need to be considered not just for their own sake but how well they "mesh" with others.

Lastly, when you're matching up characters to section IDs, consider whether you'll be doing a lot of piping for rare enemies. It's a lot easier to "pipe" with a human or Newman character than with an android, so assign your androids to section IDs that don't rely so much on piping to get you key rare items (like Purplenum; most of its excellent drops are off "normal" monsters with the significant exceptions of the Frozen Shooter and Psycho Wand, and the former is available in many other IDs while the latter is a 1/205 drop from the most easily accessible rare monster).

Ultimately, a lot of it will boil down to your particular needs and play style. For example, if you don't have a Hunter, you probably don't need a Skyly. And if you only have one character, you want an ID that covers all areas well as opposed to having one or two good drops.

Oh, and lastly, Pinkal does NOT receive more technique disks or higher level ones on the GC/Xbox version. That's leftover from the Dreamcast, unfortunately.
