Didn't see this one coming!

Trailer here (it's all CG, but looks gorgeous):

http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/rpg/phantasystariv/index.html

And if it has server-side saving like Blue Burst, what if they turned the rumoured PSV into PS Universe's offline mode? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif The CG trailer certainly seems to have more character-specific cut-scenes, and be more story-driven, than PSO was.

It might not be out till 2005, but I'm so excited about it already! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Check out the trailer near the end at 2:03, I think that's one of the remaining character-classes from the Book Of Hunters?

*does a happy dance* http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Having checked some articles about this, it seems like it really could be a new PSO! This is too good to be true!

There's a Dark Falz statue type thing near the start of the trailer as well, so that suggests that the game is set after PSO.

PSO2 is coming baby, yeah! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Sadly there's more topics of PSU (no not Phantasy Star University, but Universe) this in 'Off Topic' btw.

Oops, sorry. I assumed it would be talked about in here. As most of the upcoming games have been, and it's often how people first find out about them. I certainly didn't think to look in "Off-topic" for the *big* news of a possible realtime PSO sequel :-S

Also, Sega's described it at E3 as an action-RPG I think. So that would make it a proper follow-up to Episode I&II. Certainly looks that way from the trailer as well.

"A Whole new game"

Whole = sum of 2 halves. I really am beginning to think more and more that PSU is effectively PSO2, but it's offline mode is PSV. And it's all tied together.

PSU = PSO2 + PSV

If true, then ... best ... game ... EVER! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Keep in mind that we have no confirmation at all on what this game is. That video is very much a teaser-- it did not state that the game is Phantasy Star Online 2, nor did it state that it is Phantasy Star V. It suggested that it could be either, but made no confirmation. Furthermore, despite what assumptions a writer at IGN may have made, Sega has given NO confirmation regarding whether or not this is an online or offline title.

So don't be getting ahead of yourself, here.

Those captures are from the IGN videos. You wouldn't put Phantasy Star Online 2 in a trailer only to then let-down the fans. Apparently there is a video that says "Phantasy Star V?" in it as well, I'm going to try and find it.

Online PSO2, with offline PSV is still my bet. Even the name Phantasy Star Universe implies something BIG. And this *very* big! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Took some grabs from the Gamespot trailer, if this isn't atleast the next PSO then I'll eat my hat.

Dark Falz related thing?

try this IGN link for the video in 4 parts

http://media.cube.ign.com/media/683/683211/vids_1.html

the fact that they would be coming out with more online Phantasy Star is absolutly fantastic, whether or not the video dipicts which game it's showing from. Head RUMORS that it would span all 3 consoles and be server side saving. That's a little hard to believe with a rumored release in 2005. wouldn't all of the next gen consoles be in heavy developement then??? anyway, good news nontheless.

why hasnt psow.com commented on this new pso yet?

Scanned this from my PSO Book Of Hunters, compare it to the grab from the trailer. Seeing as 2 of the other unused classes in the book made it into Episode I & II almost unchanged, I'm now pretty sure PSU is more PSO.

This is a good day to be a PSO fan! And if the offline-mode is indeed PSV then it's going to make everyone happy http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Because it's not confirmed as a PSO game. It's Phantasy Star, but it's not necessarily Phantasy Star Online.

Sega's made nothing in the way of confirming anything beyond the fact that they are working on another game with "Phantasy Star" in the title.

That's it.

What more proof do you need? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Even the name Universe implies online to me. I'd put it up on the front-page under 'speculation' or something, cos this is *very* big news if it turns out to be correct. Atleast let the fans know so they can make their own minds up.

I'd want to know about a possible PSO2 as soon as possible. And I've always come to PSOW for my PSO news http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

At the end of the teaser, when the PSU logo shows up, you can clearly see three planets. The one in the middle has a ring around it...start speculating.

Look at the very first picture in this thread, it clearly states "Phantasy Star Online 2".

As of now, PSU is in fact NOT PSO 2. Noone knows what it is.

Here's my input

Here it says maybe Phantasy Star Online 2
http://home.comcast.net/~sonicwoo/PSshot1.jpg

Here it says maybe Phantasy Star V
http://home.comcast.net/~sonicwoo/PSshot2.jpg

So we won't know for a while

Nash
May 13, 2004, 07:22 PM
It's both http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Names of both games in the trailer + "A whole new game" (whole = sum of both parts) = Phantasy Star Universe being PSO2 online and PSV offline. Switching to server-side saving meant they had to replace the offline mode with *something*.

I'd almost stake money on it. Sonic Team love to tease, but they keep the fans happy. They wouldn't stick both names in that trailer (remember neither PSO2 or PSV has ever been talked about by Sega before) and only go with one of them.

Having both game-styles in one huge ('Universe' sized) game on the otherhand would keep *everyone* happy.
