Red Slimes?

Hey everyone, first post.
Me and a friend was trying out the freeze the slimes to get red slimes to get rare items....but it wouldn't work..he either killed 'em, or they disappeared.
Anything we're doing wrong?

Well, you can split a Slime up if you use Barta, Gibarta or Rabarta. In offline you can only split em 4 times. In online mode i think you can split em more than that. I got one in offline tho. I use gibarta and split em, got a red slime slime in normal and it dropped a HP Restorate. Hmmmm... not bad for normal mode.
