Yea, Uncle knows the feeling. He went to an ATHF site and it had been turned into a toy website with women (who have remarkable resemblance to Sil'fer)advertising toys. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

I know one way that you could play Mario & Luigi without getting porn popping on your computer: buy the actual game. It is also a lot more rewording that way, too.

Oh, by the way, Superstar Saga is a fun game. If you wanted to play a game while ripping off the developers, you could not have picked a better game.

Sorry if that seemed harsh. I am just against playing game illigelly in every way. I know the feeling though. Porn pops onto my computer from time to time as well. Its really annoying.

roms are not illegal if you only keep them as a demo.

I did that with Megaman Zero too, I wasn't interested with the first 10 minutes of play and decidend not to buy it. then I deleted the file.

but that's not teh point.

That's actually urban legend, Skuda.

The only way I can conceivably see ROMs being legal in any way is if you ripped the game yourself onto your computer, but even then, I'm not sure. After all, I know for a fact it's illegal to make back-up copies of Playstation games, so I don't see why the same wouldn't stand for other games.

I'm not into that kind of stuff anymore, but I did find it annoying when my computer would be flooded with dirty porn sites everytime I tried to go on one.

I got popups like that in SCHOOL once...it sucked, and all the other guys in my class moaned and _____ed when I closed the windows. Good thing I didn't get in trouble for it...the teacher didn't see. I have one of those "good person" reputations. Anyway, I'm against ROMs because they're illegal and cheat video game companies out of their hard-earned money.

Roms are perfectly legal as long as you rip your own copy, using a backup device you own that does not violate copyright sanctions (IE using a reverse engineered ROM ripper is ok, but some ROM ripper that used proprietary code in its creation is not). This is prtected under fair use law *in the US*, regardles of what the instruction booklet says.

However, using or owning a ROM or copy that was NOT created by you that you have not purchased legally (Ie someone sold you his copy of the game, but you use the backup so as not to ruin the copy) is illegal. So, essentially, every single still copyrighted ROM or ISO out on the net is in violation of fair use and copyright, but very few companies care if people pirate games that they no longer make money of off anymore.

You may want to edit your post a bit there, Sord.
I must admit, I used to play roms. Not many, but I still played them. Most of the ones I played I actually owned the cartridges for, but the batteries in the cartridge themself were basically dead, making save game files randomly corrupt.

I don't play roms nearly as much anymore. Whenever I play something its either on the PC or Gamecube, or Xbox, depending on where I am.

It's sad actually. I know some people are against roms and emulators, but I look for them as well because my SNES is dying.

The worst part is, almost all English sites are now porn, have broken links, or just don't exist anymore. It's just so annoying, hum...

A lot of ROM sites are sponsored by porn sites, that's the reason you get those.

And that's why you have a popup killer! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I've got a few ROMs on my computer, but I haven't played them in a while. I basically just want to beat Final Fantasy II without having to steal the cartridge from my cousin. I know, it's a cop-out, but whatever.

However, I'll admit I was trying to get a ROM for the Phantasy Star games... which I'm ashamed to say I might still try to do. I can get Phantasy Star Collection... but Phantasy Star IV? I'd have to spend upwards of like... twenty bucks for a Genesis and the game!

You CAN find ROM sites without all the porn... Just keep looking a little more, guys. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

And since you would be buying it used, sega wouldn't be making a profit anyways. You aren't ripping them off if you look at it that way http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Most only things I ever used roms for was to play the translated version of seiken densetsu 3.

[reply to original post]
Just turn pop-ups off, or do you love the pm pop-up too much?

Same with me, until I got stuck http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif. I also got a FF SNES game due to the fact I saw it being sold for around $100 at one place because it's "very rare."
