FanFic: The next group-fic (Almost time to begin. Resources

Team-A has all but completed it and is just now copying their posts to PSOW (we have about 25 posts left to copy).

Team-B.... Well... At some point, the joy was sucked out of their writing and now they soldier on towards the grim end.

While we wait for that, it's time to prepare for my next rollercoaster ride into the realms of PSO-based Group-fic madness.

I did notice that a Summer group-fic has sprung up while my back was turned but I suspect that it will not be a problem. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif


This thread is going to serve two purposes.

1. To gauge what kind of writer response we might be expecting (bearing in mind that this will be a semi-serious group-fic).
There was some new blood expressing an interest in joining in and now would be a good time for them to make themselves heard.

2. People can have a say in what kind of storylines they want to play through.
Chances are I will ignore them and force you all to run the ones I want but who knows... Something interesting could spring up.


So what is it I'm taking about?

Very well, time to spill the beans...

I want to run two group-fics. One is open to everyone, the other will be only open to select writers (and with heavy restrictions placed on them http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif ). The "closed" group-fic's plot will be announced later.



Here is my proposed plot (It's not mine, it's based on Boc's idea):

Countdown to Pioneer One
Set 7 years before the events of PSO Ep 1.
Pioneer 1 will be leaving Coral and heading to Ragol to begin colonisation.
Coral has a new united government, but one country collapsed and now its rogue army leads a campaign to disrupt the Pioneer project in revenge.

The story will start one month before the launch, the hunter's guild assigned to protect the facilities, but the United Coral Military (lead by General Panda) is not pleased with this...

1. The launch of Pioneer one was 9 years before EP1.

2. If we run BOC's idea, would it be ok if I wrote a short Prologue for my character? Ardo has a strong past with the Coral Military... and it would be interesting to have an anti hero introduced right at the start...

Logical - What the heck? Do you work for sonic team or something? Where does it say it's nine years?
And nine years is too much!

A prologue.... Sure I guess, but it might conflict with the backstory i'm gonna write. Perhaps you should PM me some details so I can alter the backstory as necessary.

Kadou - No, the WV thing isn't the closed fic. His one is gonna be tricky since it's set after 'AoS13' but doesn't follow the same continuity (as we've created). Who knows...

just thought id stick my nose in though. yes it took p2 2 years to get to ragol. you could assume that the 5 year space was waiting for p1 to confirm that ragol was suitable. and just how long do you think it would take to build one of those city sized ships?

and i think logical posting a prologue is a good idea!! best done in a seperate thread, before the actual fic.

Do you know how many people are in that closed fic? I don't want to join open group-fics if BOC, Kadou, Logical and you are the only group-fic "veterans."
And is it okay if I do the first-person view again? I notice alot of people never use it in group-fics.

argghh this so freakin sucks, lol. I came up with this Group Fic idea while I was completely bored. At the time, I had no idea PSO: EPIII was out nor did I know anything about the plot.... >_<

While my idea DOES have some similarities with Ep3, there aren't many. I won't elaborate here.

My thoughts on the whole time line thing are:
7 years ago : P1 leaves Coral
5 years ago : P1 arrives at Ragol
2 years ago : P2 leaves Coral
0 years ago : Hundreds of thousands of hunters sweep Ragol clean looking for Rares.

I would prefer to go with 7 years since some people use only one avatar in their group-fics and they might end up to young too use otherwise!

If we put it to a vote I'm sure I could predict the result.

Boc & Logical - I should think the prologue will be fine. I'll be posting up my intro on my board shortly so that Logical can see what i'm planning.

Slicer - I think we have room for one more.

Zzzzz - The closed GF will run at the same time as the open one (though it'll probably start 1-2 weeks afterwards). Since the closed one will run at a slower pace I hoping that the writers will take part in both. *Fingers crossed*

WV - I think it can still be done, it'll just need a little lot of planning is all.


PS Just so that KodiaX doesn't try to kill me in RL, the Group-fic contest is not over, it merely feels like it.

i finally caught up with my reading of team b's fic. i gotta say, even as a rival (bitter rival: grrrrrr *meow*!), there is still life in the old girl yet!! with a bita organisation and a toning down of some of the more zaney characters it could be quite a fic!! they haven't even started the battle yet and that is were the strength of many of team b's writers lie. so my words of advice:

pull ur fingers outa yer collective assess and bang out a qualiTy fic!!!

hear that boys? we're vets! we Rock! u need not fear open group fics young Zzzzzz. rise of the machines + the slums were both open and they rocked. open fics can be alota fun! and if need be, while it may be open, a vetting system could be used, just like team a used during the competition to filter out the less than amazing posts, let them be edited before they hit the board. And im sure most of the usual suspects will be joining the next open groupie - the other vets, like zi, nasca, kafka, wv, deathscythe, garanz, saru, etc will be joining us!

besides - water that does not flow has no motion. it becomes stagnent and polluted. - think about that one!

I will (hopefully) be rolling out the Pioneer One group-fic next weekend or something.

Create an account name that reflects your PSOW name (I will get annoyed if have to play guessing games).

Posted there is already a brief plot outline so you know what to expect plus you can think of what your character might be like.

All the relevant information will eventually be mirrored in the group-fic thread itself, so it isn't 100% necessary to join my board.
However, if you take your craft in any way seriously, you'll know that going there will give you an advantage.
