View Full Version : Games from which you would like to see a sequel of

Without starting the "OMG SEQUEL SUXORZ" topic, there has been a couple of great games lost in history that wouldn't hurt to come over in style on the current gaming generation:

- "Super Pang". The arcade hit could come back in a 3D engine, with 2D gameplay. An addicting arcade game, like "Bubble Bobble" was.

http://images.webmagic.com/klov.com/screens/S/xSuper_Pang.png

- "Power Stone". It sucks that this great fighting game series died with the Dreamcast. God, it was one of my favorites. A classic button-mashing, nerve-breaking 3D fighter.

http://www.ex.org/4.3/images/powerstone2.gifhttp://www.gaming-media.com/fighting/power_stone2/Images/ps2-ss08.jpg

- "Gunstar Heroes". Keep all the 2D gameplay glory and game design from the first game, but enter a new 3D graphics engine.

http://www.grospixels.com/site/images/gheroes/09.jpg

...I had a load of games to talk about, but I can only remember these by now.

I know what some of you will think "No sequels is why they were great games! A classic is to be remembered, not ruined!"

That's true.

But I believe they could try something to make them still alive. Like they did with Sonic the Hedgehog. The various games are nowhere near the originals, but it still kills some nostalgia.

It sucks just having to remember the game. I speak for myself, since I sold my Dreamcast and Genesis.

And who knows if they can't make a decent sequel? What are your thoughts, people?

I'm going to suggest Nights, on the Saturn, but to be honest I'm not sure it'd translate well enough to make money on todays consoles given the respective audiences.
It would do well on Gamecube i guess, and it'd be bloody good.

I want to see Bionic Commando 2. It could be done on a similar engine to Metroid Prime. I'd also love to see a new Skate or Die, or Excitebike.

We SO need a new Goemon game from Konami.

And Rocket Jockey. Oh, Sega so has to dig up their old PC games and re-release Rocket Jockey or make a new one. That game was pure genius. (I sure hope somebody else knows about this game...)

And Eternal Darkness.

And a good Chrono Trigger sequel, that could hopefully undo all the crap that was Chrono Cross. (Should've never had a sequel in the first place... but whatever.)

My respect for you has just been taken down a peg. A whole peg!

No, it wasn't nearly as good as Chrono Trigger, but it wasn't crap -_-

Heh, here is an idea. I wanna see a sequel for Final Fantasy X-2. They can call it Final Fantasy X Tutu, and it can be another dress up game -_-

How can one go down from rock-bottom? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Ok, but this is my view on Chrono Cross:

It has a battle system that is over-complicated and doesn't work nearly as often as it should.

The story is over-complicated as well, in a classic attempt by Square to try and present something that's deep. In doing so, they essentially screw over Chrono Trigger's story completely.

And it's way too over-hyped. I mean jeez... people called it the best RPG ever! Seriously, have these kids ever played an RPG without FMVs?

I will admit though, that if they hadn't gone the route of "well, every game needs a unique battle system loaded with gimmicks" and had just kept the CT battle system, I probably would've been able to put up with the game. But as of right now? I'm stuck at some boss and I just honestly don't care enough to try and get any further.

Skett

I have never heard anyone say that Chrono Cross is the best anything. And I'm with Frink, Chrono Cross is a good game.

Outrider, I think you would enjoy the 3D remake of Chrono Trigger, wouldn't you? I have to remember when it comes out though.

And the Eternal Darkness sequel, well, that would be great. Silicon Knights said that they would probably make a sequel and even half-confermed it but than SK and Nintendo split up and we have heard nothing since.

I'm with Outrider on the Goemon and Eternal Darkness ideas...

But i'd also love to see a new Ogre Battle (not tactics). It was one of the deepest snes games ever made, and it blew me away on the 64. It's too bad that no one ever knows what the hell i'm talking about. I guess i'll just go back to re-beating the rom legal cartridge http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

That is precisely the way I feel about Final Fantasy VI. There's just something that's horridly tedious about the game's battle system, and while stumbling around in the final dungeon I finally came to the decision that no FMV or ending sequence could possibly be worth trudging two concurrent parties through another split dungeon like this one just to fight a boss that I hear is the most difficult to beat in the entire Final Fantasy series, no matter how glorious or spectacular said FMV or ending sequence could possibly be. I mean geez, I was greatly annoyed by the battle system in Final Fantasy IX, but even that game wasn't so spoiled by it that I couldn't finish it.

Quite frankly, if I were Locke, Sabin or Edgar, the people of that particular Final Fantasy version of Earth would be screwed.

Eternal Darkness II: Brought to you by the same folks who made Luigi's Mansion. (Luigi's Mansion with random Insanity effects and no meter to control!) Actually, any game would be cool like that, wouldn't it? Like...PSO, on Normal, Hard, Very Hard, Ultimate, and Crap your Pants! Boomas turning into Deminians and Rappys.....exploding.
Instead of fighting Dark Falz and Olga Flow, you have to kill RRR and Flowen!
But anyway, we really do need an Eternal Darkness 2. It would....*Flips through red dictionary of Hacker/Skater terms*pwn...yeah, pwn all the other games.

Yeah, I know, but the sequels died in there. And if they did a sequel better than the original, they should keep at it.

Another game I remembered is Sparkster, for the SNES and genesis. It was a fox who could fly with his jetpack and use sword moves in the enemies.

Cool music, gameplay, fantastic worlds made this a classic to me, altough I only found out about it recently.

Can't believe I forgot about this game before. I want a new release of E.V.O. Even if it is only on the GBA I'd be happy. I want to play that game all day long.

Also, Kid Chameleon could easily be a fierce game with technology these days. As well as Adventure Island.

We need a Phantasy Star Online game that's either:

1) Before Pioneer 2
2) Between Episode 2 and Episode 3 (Hey, a lot happened in between there... OPSS?)

Let's see...

If they fixed all the bugs, and made Flying Formation less useless, a Sonic Heroes sequel would be great! I personally loved Sonic Heroes (And I'm guessing a lot of you will cringe at reading that), but it's true, all the bugs were annoying. And ST said they'd make SH like the old Sonic games... with a bajillion of different ways to go... buut still it's the same straight forward stages ;_;

An online Super Smash Brothers Melee. And that would be released at the same time as the Gamecube's Hardrive (I wish ^_-), so that you could download new stages and characters!

Pokemon Stadium... I was disappointed with Colloseum, I now wish they kept it more to Stadium. They took out to many Stadium elements for it to be worth it http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

MechAssault... the only reason I want to get an XBox... booya! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

A direct sequel of Starcraft.

With 3 new races.

Unified Terran/Protoss, Kerrigan's Zerg/Humans, and the Zerg/Protoss hybrid.

And none of that 'Snapping necks with Kerrigan vers.2'. She used a knife for the love of all that is holy, not her hands! *sigh*

It is being made for Cube, Xbox, and PC. Bad news: Cube and Xbox versions are for developers only. Good news: PC will be retailed to us regular folks.

Not sure about Earchbound 3 but a fan-made Earthbound game is being made, strangly using the Half-Life mod.

Anyways on to what games I would like a sequal too. First is Vagrant Story. Followed closly by a remake of Panzer Dragoon Saga.

As far as I know, Earthbound 3 is still in development. However, there is a (obvious) chance that it has been released and Nintendo just does not want to bring it Stateside. I will give it a look.

While I look, Earthbound fans should give this a look: http://boards.1up.com/zd/board/message?board.id=egm_disc&message.id=196607

Dude, Meira, Kefka is the EASIEST fucking boss in all of FF. Even more wimpy than Sephiroth.

...It's the boss you fight before him that sucks.

But dude. I had Cyan in my party, with Genji Glove, Offering and the strongest two swords I had that he could use, and I was some stupidly high level from teaching EVERYONE all the spells.

9999, 9999, 9999, 9999, 9999, 9999, 9999, *splat*

The ending is like, 10 minutes long. >_>; Assuming you have everyone back. The scenes change depending on who you have. Well, the real ending, not the FMV thing. Good old fashioned sprite goodness.

If you're playing the PSX version, I can see why you wouldn't want to do the last dungeon, though. Evil load times.

A sequel to the GBA remake of Shining Force.
More simply: a GBA remake of Shining Force II http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
Or a GBA remake of the Sega CD version, or some version I haven't played yet. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I am definitely looking forward to those two announced Shining Series PS2 games, though.

Super Smash Brothers, definitely. Downloadable features would be nice, but I'm not exactly sure if Nintendo would update much...

Bradicus, I would love to see a new Ogre Battle game as well. Heck, an online version would be kickass, provided the timings were done well. It wouldn't bode well for you to see your opposition where they were 5 minutes ago. -_- If there was an online Ogre Battles, you and I would be like... the only ones on there. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif And I would fear the Pumpkinheads -_-

Sparkster IS a sequel. Original is Rocket Knight Adventures. And yes, it is an opossum. And yes, original is very good game. Though I wouldn't mind a 3rd game.

Pang had several incarnations, most just never showed in america. Still love the game though.

I agree about people's request about Treasure games. I wish they did sequels, period. but then part of me is glad they don't. Always forces them to push the envelope. Hell, i want a sequel to Tresure's Ronald McDonald's Treasure Land.

What I'd really love would be some sequels to forgotten Koei games, like Gemfire, L'Empereur, Inindo, Legacy of the Emperor, etc.

another company that I'd like sequels from would be Revolution, but I believe they are defunct now. I loved just about everything they did. Gaiares, Valis series, rendition of sega's Gain Ground, etc.

And I would personally commit human sacrifice if we could get a sequel to NiGHTS - but that'll never happen.

I'd love a sequel to a childhood favorite, Miracle Warriors. Or a great genesis game Target Earth. Heck make Herzog Drei and a huge chunk of gamerdom would swoon.

There's so much that deserves a sequel but never gets it. It's hard to choose. But I tell you this, I was so impressed with the sega saturn because so many games that I absolutely adored before in 16-bit had sequels on that system. I'm still desperately collecting. Sooo underrated - cool, makes collecting easier.

Sonic CD. 3D graphics engine, but same old 2D gameplay, then they could make a Sonic CD 2.

This was the first Sonic game I player, before the original. I was just a kid that got his first original videogame (All those classics like Prince of Persia and old PC engine games were played in my uncle's PC) and felt hooked into the extremely original psychadelic-fantastic world, with that unreal but somewhat fitting Audio soundtrack.

http://www.jan-rehschuh.de/soniccd/zonen/pic/soniccd_ss_c.gifhttp://www.jan-rehschuh.de/soniccd/zonen/pic/soniccd_cc_c.gifhttp://www.jan-rehschuh.de/soniccd/zonen/pic/soniccd_sz_c.gif

It was a great concept: Using his speed, Sonic the hedgehog could travel in time, to prevent that, in the future, the little planet would be a toxic and polluted world where Eggman was the ruler.

They could leave the 3D crappy gameplay to the special stages like they did before.

-----------------

Transport Tycoon. They've made so many sequels based on railroads, rollercoasters and airplanes (which, by the way, aren't bad) but the man in charge of the game, Chris Sawyer, forgot to stick to the original: To create your successfull net of transportation around the world, and survive until the year of 2010.

http://www.reprise.com/ash/clients1/billd/ttdlx/images/std3_bld.gifhttp://www.saunalahti.fi/~lasseh/kuvat/tycoon/autolinja.gif

For that, you could use bus shuttles, trains, airplanes, and ships. All those would receive upgrades according to the year you were in (For example, once you reach around 1970 the Concorde becomes available as an airplane) and you would battle for the monopoly of the transports in the various cities in the world.

A funny thing is that, from a given date, some new transports become to appear, some that don't exist today or exist in few zones but try to show what will come in the future. Like the rocket airplanes, monorail system, and some more I don't remember right now.

You also had to take care of the problems, like train/bus/airplane crashes and such.

A game that passed with some discretion due to the SimCity series, but is a worthy rival nonetheless.

-----------------

Orion Conspiracy. A thrilling adventure game with a dark, scary and adult plot.

Uh... was ICO 2 even officially announced? I'm fairly sure the only reason people think it was coming out was because of that teaser movie... but was there even an official announcement?

Toejam and Earl in Panic On Funkatron should be remade into a 3D sidescroller, and ditch that crappy one for Xbox.

Outrider, I remember reading an article on IGN about SCEA announcing their plains to discontinue the ICO franchise for the time being because of ICO's failure to make any real revenue.

And I heard (I believe from E3) that Sony is going to make a sequel for PS2.

Freedom Fighters. I love that game, I think they are making a sequel though.

Morrowind. In my Top 5, another would could only be better.

Baldur's Gate 2. One of the best PC RPGs, it needs another one.

Icewind Dale 2. My favorite PC RPG, I love the story and feel of it.

There are more...

Probably one of my most memorable games right now, The Legend of Dragoon, I want a sequel to. That was one of the games I loved due to its different battle system. It may not be the best, but I'm obsessed with anything with swords, shields, and dragons.

The second, I want a direct sequel to Tales of Destiny. I want to see what happened after the ending.

My final, is a sequel to Ninja Gaiden. Nuff said. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

That game was pretty fun.....

I remember playing this game at a store or a friends house or something, about 4 years back....probably to this very day?! Coincydink?!....

Same here......

I pre-ordered "Tales of Symphonia".....it's the sequel to "Tales of Destiny" isn't it?! That's the first thing that came to mind when I read about "Tales of Symphonia" in a mag preview. All it's based on is the chosen one and her friends, from what I've read.

Is this the sequel?! Or is it a completely new adventure?!

The next Gaiden should be quite interesting. Hopefully the difficulty will have been well traversed by the current Gaidens players and can expect the same quality from the next.

I bought the game around May 26th, 2k4 and have thoroughly enjoyed it, thus far.

I myself haven't made it past the first "Alma" boss battle, yet. But, am well on my way to pounding the demoness into her temporary grave.

Excellent game...... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_cowsleep.gif

Well, if the main character is a girl, I don't think so. Tales of Destiny's was a guy. Of course, it could be his future daughter...if he had one.

That's coming. They already announced it.

EDIT: No systems or anything announced yet, but they are indeed making a sequel.

I think a new mechassault is already in the works.

from what i understand, there is one in the works with new mech(duh), elementals/power armor, vehicals, and the ability to roam around on foot and climb into all the different stuff. so far it sounds really cool. i dont have any kind of expected release date though.

although said earlier, the main char in Rocket Knight Adventures is an opossum. i would love to see a sequal to it too, it was very fun, challenging, and long(dont think i beat it, but made it to the final boss). if you still have a genesis, i would suggest you get a copy. and speaking of genesis games, i would really enjoy a sequal to Battletech. img, i most have spent hours a day playing that game. granted it was short, only five lvls, but you could, to a degree, customize your mech to use what weapons you want. if i could find my genesis, id would be playing it right now. o, and to those who have it, you know that BRN521 is your best friend(i have no clue why i still remember this, so dont ask).

That was several years ago. We have heard nothing about it at all. Who knows if it is still coming or not.

Several years? I thought it was just like... a year ago at most. Maybe just old news being reported later than it should've been...

EDIT: Yeah, I did some Googling and everywhere I found had reported it around like... early last year.

Then that is great news! It will be interesting to see what they do with the sequel, considering the castle is no more and the characters dead.

I uh... don't remember the characters being dead. But I'd rather not discuss this publicly without any SPOILER tags, as that's a game people should play.

Good call. So I'll just say this: have you ever thought of the beach at the end as a heaven? It shows the collapse on both of them and the princess is back to her non-corrupted form as well as united with Ico. Of course, the end is ambiguous for the same reasons you can't read the dialogue: so you create your own story. Maybe not >_@

Wild 9

and

Counter Strike....not that piece of shit condition zero. That is no sequal.

Uh... I think that you're probably just thinking too much into it.

But whatever. The teaser trailer they released didn't seem to have any of the pre-existing characters in it.
