View Full Version : Contest: The Mag Farmer!

eRUPT
Jun 12, 2004, 06:12 PM
The mag feeder is back, some might remember this before and some not. This was a contest we held before which simply involved feeding your mag daily and building points depending on whether your mag liked your choice. One part is random where you select a food from a list and try your luck. The second part allows you to answer a simple riddle about what your mag wants to eat.

There probably isn't going to be any prizes for this contest as I really have no money to spare, but this is something fun to do for the whole site.

Like before the points your mag earns shows up in your user profile info inside the forums. This is gonna run till the 26th, but it might run longer if people have fun with it and I can think of more food hints, heh.

Good Luck!

I made my mag happy by feeding him a certain item. Then I tried answering the riddle to feed him and nothing - not good, not bad.

How do I know if I got it right or wrong?

Caps doesn't matter, no spaces.

One last question: Ok, when I saw the list of foods, I just clicked one, and said feed. I can't remember now what smilies were used as food...is it my loss, or are you allowed to post the list of food? If so, for the latter, can you post the smilies of the foods for me? Sorry if I'm really annoying and ticking you off.

eRUPT
Jun 12, 2004, 07:30 PM
The smilie that your mag chooses as its prefered food is differenteveryday and is randomly generated when you load the feeder, so its not as if you can pick a wrong food by your own fault, just a matter of luck.

Here is the list though so you can see:

Ramen is dirt-cheap noodles that are uber-delicious. In fact, I think there was a "What's your favorite ramen flavor?" poll in OT recently. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Ramen commonly sells for 25 cents, and sometimes 10 cents. Where the fuck do you shop?

And uh, no, ramen is a very common food stuff, especially among broke college students regardless of if they've even heard anime.

My god, there are people that ignorant about ramen? XP

That being said, I didn't get it, because ramen is the most godforsakenly nasty and disgusting thing in existance and my brain does not associate it with being loved. XP

Edit: Noooo, Ian, ne'er speak ill of ramen! It's blissfully good if you just pour a copious amount of hot-sauce on it. I recommend Cajun Sunshine; it's not very spicy but very flavorful!

Sorry it's called instant noodles in Canada, I think you guys happen to be the only place that is so. Everywhere else Ive been its been called Ramen, which is the original name for it... Chinese noodles in a broth.

Prices in the US range from 12 for a dollar (and up to 20 for a dollar on hyper sales) down to a dollar or so a piece, with the median being around 3-4 for a dollar.
Japans prices are at about a dollar a pack, and a 5 pack going for around 4 dollars on sale.

I would never have guessed ramen as the answer to yesterdays question though...

Also... I'd like to clarify that I throw popcorn all the time. I figured everyone threw popcorn. Why do you think there is always so much popcorn laying beneath AND on top of people's seats in theaters. While watching something like.... Lost in Translation, throwing popcorn is a requirement, unless of course falling asleep was the objective (again... good movie, but boring). And while I do admit it doesnt seem foamy in appearence neccesarily, it does seem to act as a type of foam. You ever THROW popcorn in a lake to feed the ducks? Yup, it floats.... let's see here, what else floats? Ah yes, foam. God, i'm so stupid for not logging on that day for the popcorn question!!! Hello, people have to clean up after you

They sure do! Surely they will be rewarded for their dedication and excellent service to their theater whilst I will be doomed to spend eternity in hell. They are just as dedicated to letting me get into other movies just out of the fact that I know half the people who work at my theater. See, if they care so much, they can just as easily kick the crap out of me once they get out from work.

, other people don't want to be pelted with your food,

Have you talked to the people that I pelt? They seem to love it. I suppose it gets a bit out of hand when they start throwing shoes. But when all is said and done, we all leave the movies a little bit happier than when we came in.

and that bucket cost you five bucks so why the hell are you wasting it?

Because I am no longer hungry, the people in front of me look deliciously deserving of a pelting, and I can't get on an airplane to Africa to feed the starving children. I gotta work with whatever options I got, no?

If you find the movie boring, sit quietly through it or leave.

Oh, rest assured that my popcorn throwing is among the stealthiest there is. I make very little, perhaps even no sound at all while throwing popcorn. I'm actually helping the theater out the way I see it. Loud kid up front making a fuss because Harry Potter just beat the crap out of a troll? No problem, throw some popcorn at 'em. The kid shuts up... or if he doesnt, my other friend will go to plan B and throw our 3rd friends shoe at the unsuspecting kid. Problem solved. I'm happy, the audience is happy, the kid is in seering pain, and my 3rd friend's inner turmoil means absolutely nothing to anyone. Happy? And the people who aren't your close friends? And even your friends, I'll wager, get sick of cleaning up your crap.

Have you talked to the people that I pelt? They seem to love it. I suppose it gets a bit out of hand when they start throwing shoes. But when all is said and done, we all leave the movies a little bit happier than when we came in.

No, I don't need to. I know they're pissed. They seem to love it? Like hell. Some people have manners, and aren't going to explode on you like they're most likely itching to. And throwing shoes? What the FUCK?
No, no I think you're the only one leaving the movies a little bit happier, since you're having fun at the expense of others who leave the movies pissed because some asshole behind them was throwing shit.

Because I am no longer hungry, the people in front of me look deliciously deserving of a pelting, and I can't get on an airplane to Africa to feed the starving children. I gotta work with whatever options I got, no?

If you're no longer hungry, then throw it away in a trashcan or save it for later.
The people in front of you look deserving? What the fuck kind of argument is that? Unless they're talking or making noise, then they aren't. If they are talking, you can try less obnoxious methods, such as tapping them on the shoulder and whispering at them to ask them to stop.
No, you don't have to work with options that are rude. You can work with the options that are polite and do not inflict your rudeness on others.

Oh, rest assured that my popcorn throwing is among the stealthiest there is. I make very little, perhaps even no sound at all while throwing popcorn. Whether or not you make noise doing it has no bearing whatsoever on whether or not it's rude. At all.
You are not 'helping out'. You are being part of the problem.
Throwing things at children is in general a very poor method of quieting them, since they tend to cry louder when they're being hit by something. Throwing a shoe at someone qualifies as assault, which is an offense you can be arrested for. And the 'seering[sic] pain' the child is in will only cause it to cry louder.
Congratulations, by the way, you have hurt a child. Do you feel special? Do you feel proud of this accomplishment? If you do, then you are seriously sick.
No, I'm not happy, because you are a dangerous person who finds causing pain and annoyance 'fun' and appropriate acts.

And you have not checked and mated anything, you have merely proved that you are a truly disgusting person.

Well, I'm glad you've taken this so seriously. Just one more thing to stress about in your life I suppose. You've made tremendously good points to otherwise joke-oriented comments of mine. The victor is you (although that means little to me in that my comments were never meant to be anything more than quicky, dark-humored answers to your previous post).

All jokes aside, I've actually rarely thrown shoes or been involved in shoe throwing at theaters. While you may find it sick, I still find it somewhat humurous to laugh at the expense of others (with limits of course). Most comedy oriented movies/t.v.shows here seem to be centered around mishaps and laughing at the pain of others. And yes, I differentiate between T.V. and real life. Again, I don't actually hurt little annoying children at movie theaters. You could think of my poor jokes from the previous post as a failed attempt to write up my own ideal dark comedy. However, so as to not stray from topic, popcorn throwing, whether it be by my hands or the hands of others, is actually quite common in my movie theaters. I personally wouldn't want to think of us as delinquents, but rather adolescents (most of this happend 2 maybe 3 years ago). I will certainly agree that adolescents can and most likely will get out of hand at times. While I do find it amusing that you think of me as a 'sick' individual, I'd like to once again make clear the fact that my post in response to your first post was merely a joke; one that obviously was far to offensive for you. What more can I say other than sorry?

Sorry my sense of humor does not fit well with yours. Sorry you take comments of mine far too seriously. Sorry you use the war in Iraq as a direct form of attacking and deamening my residency here in the United States. I was never for war, and I will likely never be. Your harsh judgement of me and the United States is perhaps justifiable, but is nonetheless rude and offensive. I try to poke fun at my own county so as to not be constantly bothered by the hate of others, and this case shall be no exception to that. Bash the US all you want, because what you have to say matters little to the troops who are giving their lives for a lost cause. Do what you will with my comments; I've simply ceased to care.

EDIT: NEW USERNAME!!! YAY!!! FREAKING AWESOME!!! THANK YOU SALADWOOD!!! What kinda stupid name was RC4 anyway....

Burrito. You've got it right.

And note that joking, especially about serious topics, does not work well on the internet unless you specifically state in the joke that it is one. ^_- I can't see or hear winking, nudging or snickering. ^_- You just happened to hit on a topic that's one of my buttons, and pressed it a little too hard. n.n

It would seem that a few individuals are really lucky when it comes to picking their random food. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/eviltongue.gif The only time I fed it correctly was when I gave it a cat to eat.

Your mag can be Mad/Peacefull/Happy (I dont know if you can get it happier, because I never got my mag so far http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif)
If you answer quiz correctly --> 2points
If your mag goes from Mad to Peacefull or from Peacefull to Happy --> 1 point
(happens when the food is just ok, but not WOW)
If your mag goes from Mad to Happy (or Peacefull to ...????? dont know) --> 2 points
(happens when you gave the perfect food http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif)

Cryo, here's how I always remember the difference between dessert and desert: dessert is something tasty, so you always want more, hence more s's than desert. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

Mixfortune

I remember dessert from desert because deSSert is Super-Sweet. Lame, I know, but it works.

There's been a few times now where my mag went from 'Mad' to 'Satisfied' when I gave it the random food, but my point value didn't change and it stayed 'Mad' afterwards. I assume it's because the mag can be further into the negatives of the happiness scale as a result of each spit out, making it harder to make it 'Satisfied' as a whole?

As for the typo, it's supposed to be dessert.

That's odd, because a tried cookie (might I add, multiple times) and it didn't seemed to work, although I was convinced it was correct. So now my mag doesn't like me, and neither does the quiz! I've still not fed it a good thing yet...http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

This food that is related to no hint whatsoever, is it American? It would be nice to know whether I should bother guessing or not...

Same here. Although I did get to see the blank hint wayy wayy earlier "today". I would just like to know if the people that get to see both the blank hint and the bean hint are capable of getting more points because they get more than one question correct? If so... boo. I also missed the Chips question, still don't know what it is. My guess was Nachos.

I also missed the Popcorn question, I never threw popcorn in my life. But at 12:34am I was eating some and watching a movie, and it occured to me that younguns throw the stuff, but it was already too late, heh.

Rainbowlemon
Jun 24, 2004, 09:55 AM
How the F**k do you have 38 points?! I mean, thats like, getting every single food correct!! I've only fed it right once, so I'm assuming I'm unlucky, and it's a 1/6 chance for a correct food or something, but STILL, that's like a 1 in 100,000 chance of getting every single one right! Wtf?! I may as well give up now...*sits in corner*

astuarlen
Jun 24, 2004, 09:58 AM
I didn't get every single one right! But in the past few days, I've been lucky. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif Actually, I got it wrong today, but if you're mag is already happy, when it spits something out it becomes peaceful, so you still get +1 point. Let's see, if I knew how many days this thing has been going on, I could figure out how many times I've guessed correctly. Does anyone know when it started?

My mag also evolved, but I only noticed it because you've said it.
I fed it this morning and didnt look at it after it was peaceful http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif.

I'm gonna re-ask my question.
I give my mag a pizza and it's very happy. When somebody else gives a pizza (the same day), will it have the same effect?

Look at my mag http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Yeah, that's what mine looks like too! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif Isn't he cute?
I don't know about the feeding thing; why don't we try it? Tomorrow, you give your mag a pizza, and I'll give mine a pizza, and we'll see what happens. Of course, there's always a chance that both happen to like it simply due to the random choice of food.

Edit: If the mag evolves at 35 points, do you think it also evolves at 50 perhaps? That would be cool!!

Interesting:

Of the top 4 finishers, two were girls, one calls himself a "girly boy" and the other is undeclared.

Now if one is to look at the numbers of men playing PSO versus the numbers of women, I'd venture to say the numbers strongly favor the men.

Did the use of hacked mags affect the success rate for the mag feeding contest?

Perhaps an appropriate prize for the winners might be the ability to use a special avatar - like maybe a cute SATO or PUSHAN?
