I've been being told to "GET UO!!" on a bi-daily basis..so I have to...from what they tell me, it has ALOT of stuff to do. I can't tell anymore than that, I've never played it, but I hear alot of good about it. As soon as I get out of my money bind, I'll be getting it.

As for any other PC games, no idea. Sorry :

Dark ages of Camelot or Everquest are 2 of the most played MMORPGS besides UO.

GOOD PC games that you haven't listed:
Tribes 2
Diablo 2
Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast (if you have the hardware for it...)

If you have any questions about these games or any hardware questions, don't be afraid to ask, unless you're a complete ditz (hahaha...)...

UO For sure. I don't even like games much (Yes I know I'm an admin at a game site hehe). But UO has me sooo hooked its probably the fastest growing of all MMORPGS as far as features and new things being added. The community is great as well and as of lately the learning curve has really been fixed up nicely so you don't have to become a nerd just to start playing the game(For Example: Everquest).

My recommendation for fact.

Single Player is pretty much like any other FPS game ... with lightsabers and Force powers http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

it was just set up over here so that everyone dukes it out on lan.

Yes, that's the best part (if you have a fast connection).

It's a cool game and there is a bunch of stuff to do on it.

It might be hard to get into it if you don't have any friends, though. A good place to read up on the game and how it operates is UO Stratics (http://uo.stratics.com).

If you get it, good luck. It can be overwhelming at first, but you'll get used to it. Guilds and stuff are fun to get into too.

Note: this is my opinion.

I got UO a two months ago. I saw the awesome Todd McFarlane art and looked at the graphics. I thought "Yes, an online game that would play like one of my favorite RPGs (Pagan: Ultima 8 )!" I played it for a couple times and never touched the game since. I am so pissed off that something that looked that cool could be so...bad. Maybe it is just me. I couldn't get into it and I was so dissapointed in the game. Personally, if you want a good online RPG, get RO (tho it is VERY laggy) or Diablo II (I just got this game and I think it is very good). Or if it is just the online gameplay you are looking for, StarCraft (it is very cheap now as well, about $15).

Edit: God damn smiley...

StarCraft is 10 bucks here...the battle chest might be a better idea than just the basic game.

The thing about UO is that it's difficult to start out on your own. The best thing to do is join a guild or have friends that already know how to play and are willing to show you how it works, because even reading up on the mechanics of the game can leave you thinking, "Duhhh, whaaa???".

You can even run on the 2D client and have fun.

It died a long time ago as far as technology is concerned, but its depth and gameplay is still unparralled at its old age, if you like to rp or do anything you want Uo is for you.

I've found it really amusing this talking up UO like it's the greatest new thing since sliced bread, when in fact it's verging on what, 5 or 6 years old? I'm all for playing what you wanna play.. I may even try it out after all this time, since I was so incensed at paying monthly when it came out. But really.. 'fastest growing' is a misnomer, more like 'slowest dying' along with Everquest.

I don't think anyone here's said UO was the greatest or the best. In fact, I don't even think anyone here even said it was new. The person was just asking if the game was good and the replies are simply the user's opinion of the game. Who really cares if a game is 5 or 6 years old? It doesn't automatically make every game not worth playing anymore. There's still a lot of classic games that I play and they're still enjoyable. I think you're way too picky.

jazzyfox

It's not so much a direct quote as the general attitude of "Oooh look at this new thing" when in fact the new thing is rather ancient.

Again, if you read my post, I never thought there was anything wrong with it, and have toyed with the idea of finally trying it myself. But the attitude of certain people amuses me.

I must say, at least it isn't RO.

no one said it's new. everyone knows it's not new. even though the game constantly evolves and changes. what it is now is not what it was 6 years ago, and still people play it and lots of people have played ever since UO went beta, and have never gotten bored.

what's wrong with people saying they enjoy the game?

Not exactly. We're talking about the amount of content, story, and gameplay tweaks and additions that are being added constantly. You play UO for a week, something will change.

But we were just giving our opinion of a game that we're playing currently, and you come along and have some "Ooooooh, blah blah blah" look at these people talk crazy talk type of attitude.

get over yourself.

Nothing wrong with it. I just find it vaguely funny somehow. Like in a year we'll see people saying the same thing about EQ, or even PSO.

Wouldn't you say that if someone comes along and says "Oooh, how amusing, they're all excited about the game even though it's 6 years old" that it speaks to the staying power of the game? The fact that it still can inspire that sort of feeling in people?

To be honest, I want to try UO. I want to try the crafting. After the amazing disappointment that came from DAoC crafting, I want to see something where people do trades because they want to, and it's viable, instead of "because the Realm needs the weapons".

I know I've come off as elitist and offense, but hey, I still find it amusing.

...Probably what jazzy is referring to. Bleh I've played or at least followed UO since beta and stopped playing till a little after renisance, and even though more people leave then join its still the best MMORPG imo to date, and I dont think WOW or SWG will change that.

no not really.
because what the game is isn't what it was 6 years ago.

but i leave people to do whatever they want to do. doesn't bother me so i don't form opinions like that

Regardless of if a game's 15 years old and people still play it, I don't see how it's funny.

For example, if someone liked and still played Super Mario Bros. 3. Sure it's damn old and it's still the same game ... and? Hehe, they like it. That's their thing. More power to them.

As it appears I have been wholly inadequate in expressing the thoughts in my head, seeing as how they're interpreted as "People who play old games suck", I'll leave this to the traditional two-sided opinions of "sucks" and "not sucks" rather than ruffle anymore feathers.

well, that's how you came across. and if you can't accept that, then too bad.

if so many of us are so called "misinterpreting" what you said (that means basically all of us), then there's a problem with the way you're saying it.

Heh, I remember trying the PC port of that game. You had to shoot with the mouse, though. There was no lightgun for the PC or anything like that. =P

However, I can play House of the Dead 2 on the Dreamcast with the gamepad better than I can with the gun. O_o;

Ok, ive played a few online RPG's and some were ok, some sucked ass. I have a question about UO. Im sure we have all seen the UO game in the game stores, the 1 with the Todd McFarland(SP) action figure thing in it. Is that the regular UO game, or is that a xpansion pack. Also are the controls point and click like Diablo2 and Dungeon Siege, or do u have 2 use the whole KB like in DAoC???

pixelate
Jun 4, 2002, 06:12 PM
The controls are point and click, and the keyboard works for that as well.

Saladwood
Jun 4, 2002, 06:17 PM
it's not heavily keyboard based. it's mostly point and click. unless you set up keyboard macros. it's easy.

the lord blackthorn version is an expansion of the game. and it's the 3d version. it also comes with the 2d client if your pc can't handle it
