Fight corruption?!?

Wow, like my third time online (just got my HL on Monday), and I corrupted. I know there are fixes out there, I just don't know what they are. So, a little help saving all my time and effort?I deleted the Guild Card, but the corrupt message still comes up, saything that my system, character, and guild card files need to be deleted. So now I need to know if there are other methods.

Then I would be out of luck. I tried method 2

Method 2- Put in a non-corrupted memory card in slotA, get to the single/multi player screen and switch the card with the corrupted one and then pick a char and play. Then save, and you are no longer corrupted.
Note: If your system file or character file is corrupted, you're screwed.

and still that didnt work and a message came up saying "Character Data is corrupt and needs to be deleted".

So, I geuss I have to start all over.
Before I do, is there any type of USB memory card or something so that I could keep a backup on my PC?
