(we should just make this topic a sticky http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif)

I, as most Redria, Need to find a Pouilly Slime in the caves in order to attain a Lavis Cannon. Through numerous hours of piping, I have only seen 2 red slimes so far. For this, I am grateful, but the drop rate for a Lavis Cannon from a Pouilly slime in Ultimate caves is 1/22. OK, now that we have that clarified - Does anyone know what the appearance rate for red slimes is supoosed to be?

I checked the guide, it said:

"Rarity: * * * * * * * * * "

... XP

The commonly accepted appearance rate for all rare enemies 1/512, so if you're piping in the 2 slime room, it should take about 64 pipes.

Aredhel: Don't complain. It took me 42 red slimes (44 if you count screw ups) to get my first lavis cannon. It's just how the game works, you know? If you want a legendary weapon, you'd better be up for a legendary hunt. It's how life works, you know? It took me, on average, an hour to pipe a red slime. But usually it took either ten minutes or two hours. Red Slimes are fickle and stingy to boot.

It's just a little discouraging when you pipe for 3 hours and not see a single red slime, ya know? (I'm sure you do http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif)

You really can't pipe 8 slimes - when you Teleport out, it resets it to only 2 slimes again. Although...
Is there a chance that when you split slimes, one of the offspring of the original will be red? This would be quite a surprise to me http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Achk!! You really don't know about piping red slimes do you? Thats ok. I'll lay it down for you.

Each poufuilly slime has a chance to be a red slime. That includes the ones you split from the original. This shaves you time down significantly. Splitting is a pain in the ass though. Use RAbarta if you can in the room in AF with 2 slimes (splits to eight). If 1 of the 4 slimes should die, you're screwed. The game reads that parent slime as being dead. You can keep piping it if you want, but it has a 0% chance of dropping the item.

aredhel -- you are asking whether splitting slimes gives you an opportunity to find a red slime? absolutely it does. in fact, you'd be remiss while hunting pouilly slimes if you chose not to split the slime or slimes every time you piped down. splitting slimes is the key. it's a little more work, but i find that it makes for much more entertaining piping. just remember, if any of the slimes kills another slime the game marks them all (that is, the original slime and the three potential split slimes) as dead. you can keep piping that slime but it will never drop an item, even if it, or one of its split slimes, shows up as a red slime. i learned this the hard way.

EDIT: i go through all the trouble of writing that convoluted paragraph and quo beats me to the punch. well, quo, at least you're not bearing the sign of the beast anymore. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

I never miss an opportunity to post about red slimes. I think your post was less confusing than mine, if its any consolation.

This may be a dumb question, but when you split the red slime does it split into more red slimes? and if so that would increase your chances correct?

Sadly, no. When you split a red slime, the slimes from it have the exact same chance of being a red slime, like any other slime you run into.
Ex: If your piping a red slime in AF and one of the first two "Parent" slimes is a red one, the ones that split from it can be either blue or red, depending on your luck. (1/512 chance... good luck.)

the appearance rate of rare critters is more like 1/370, and I have slain 58 Redria Pouilly Slimes and got NO Lavis Cannon http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_argh.gif

That sucks Kef.

My dream is to one day split a red slime from a red slime and get lavis cannons from both. But if my math is right, the odds of that happening are 1/126,877,696 asuming that the chance for a rare enemy is 1/512 and the lavis cannon rate is 1/22.

I would rather kill many tollaws with a purplenum section ID than waste time piping red slimes to obtain the lavis cannon.

Yes.

wow, I feel like a tool. I was piping the two limes the entire time - never splitting them http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

OK, but I tried splitting them last night and in just 2 hours, I managed to find 8 Red slimes. I, of course, did not get a Lavis Cannon yet but you say if any of the slimes kills another (even if it's not a parent slime) that entire slime "family" is ruined? hmmph http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

7 of the 8 slimes I killed last night dropped me meseta and the last one didn't drop anything. Is the meseta-dropping a good sign that they may drop a lavs cannon or am I going about this totally wrong?

Anyways, I'll just keep doing what I'm doing in hopes to get this "legendary weapon" http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I would rather kill many tollaws with a purplenum section ID than waste time piping red slimes to obtain the lavis cannon. A good quest for that is letter from lionel (7 tollaws) But the drop rate is really low, so its a trade off.

Quo

Natron- The best (offline) quest is Soul of a Blacksmith. It has 27 tollaws.

Aredhel- The meseta is a good sign. That means those slimes weren't dead. They still had a chance to drop the lavis even though they didn't.

jspacemunkey
Jul 12, 2004, 01:49 PM
quo is right, of course. you say one dropped nothing at all? no meseta, mates, etc.? if so, it means that the parent slime or one of the parent slime's split slimes was killed. if that ever happens immediately stop piping that particular slime and move on to another.

Well, the culmination of numerous hours of piping resulted in me getting my Lavis Cannon - w00t! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

It only took me 11 Red Slimes - I know that I'm very fortunate in this. My lv. 133 HUney was using a Demo Comet before and needed a new weapon to defend herself from those terrible monsters of the world http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

On a side note (read: off topic XP ), today has just been my lucky day - despite seeing 2 red slimes and earning a Lavis Cannon, I also found a Red Slicer (30% A.Beast,Machine, AND dark), an Asuka (20% machine), 4 guilty lights, 2 photon drops, 6 power mats, 7 defense mats, 2 mind mats, 3 scape dolls and a partridge in a pear-tree (30% Santa's elves)

... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

The one smart thing I did do through all this was leave my Lavi untekked. Despite it having somewhat reasonable %'s (10% machine, 20% dark) I really love the special - it's like having Squall's gun-sword http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

One thing I WOULD like to clarify, though is that when you leave a (legit) Lavis Cannon untekked, it's special does not hit 100% of the time despite popular belief. Though, it is true that it is invisible (as opposed to a purple wave when you Tek it), it has the power and accuracy of a hard attack, it is ranged and (best of all) it does not take 5% from your HP. I just love loopholes...

Now I just need to find some way to make the special suck HP, TP and EXP from the enemies and I'll be all set! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Congratulations on getting your lavis cannon. In my eyes though, using an untekked Lavis Cannon is cheating.

You should get yourself two syncestae now.

Hey Quo, if ever you find an extra Lavis Cannon through your day of play, save it. I'll be getting online eventually, and if you ever do, I'll definately trade for it.
