I've noticed that a lot of people on this site have titles and sigs having to do with "cat people". can someone please explain what a cat person is and why exactily thier so cool?

Well, you see, the term "cat people" refers to creatures, usually sentient, with varying ranges of, shall I say, "cat-ness."
A minor cat-person would simply be a human (normally female) with cat ears poking out of the head, a tail, and claws/paws. A cat-person in the most major form (My furvrit) is best described in the realm of "furry". 100%, head-to-toe coverage of fur and possesing a feline face. Fur colors range anywhere from calico and other realistic colors to PINK! (Luv teh pink...)

The reason they're so cool depends on the person. Some people like the idea of half animal, half-human creatures. Some people are just really into cats and wish they kind of were one, but not completely. However, the greatest number of people derive a sexual pleasure from "furries", for reasons I'm not going to go into.

i love cats, hell my cat is sleeping right beside me as i type, but in no way would i wanna be one or do i have any kind of 'ideas' about them.

i think its to do with anime. think about it, how some of the characters have cat like features. and sometimes, as anime tends to do it goes over-board. and considering how popular it is....
course i know very little about anime and cat people so my opinion counts for shit.

no seriously, i know in the chara creation picture the foney seemed to have the erm, whats it called, whiskers? But that'd be about it.. and the in-game foney's don't even have that...
