I'd had my fill of the DC server (2003) and the Schthack server, so earlier this month I figured it was time to quite PSO v2 forever.

The issue of GC PSO came up, and my friend eventually got me hyped into it. Yeah, this is the kind of friend you met on one of your first times online in PSO.

I've read a few guides, but they're getting rather lengthy for my tastes. Is there anything drastic that I should expect from the DC version? Any help would be appreciated.

You mean expect from the GC version?
You might want to consider playing BB instead though.

Welcome,

You might find it difficult to get a copy of the GC version - I know I did.

The xbox version might be a little easier to find right now.

You'll see users of both platforms on these boards and both have their advantages and disadvantages.

What I like about the xbox version is that there are better quests to do (TTF, Towers, Seat of the Heart, Swirling Fire Dome, Rappy's Holiday) than on the old DC game (from what I played, anyway), c-mode is pretty awesome on xbox and lots of cool rares to chase down. Also, the ability to create 12 characters to cover all id's and use live chat while playing is a huge plus for xbox.

Anyway, just a couple of my thoughts - the cubers have pretty good reasons for the benefits of that platform versus the old DC one as well.

Welcome aboard.

I've already got the Gamecube on order. Consoles are my passion.

Trust me, stay off the GC version. Blue Burst is heaven.

I don't have the PC to run it, this PC was king of it's time, 500mhz, but it's 6 years too old. This doesn't have a video graphics card to run it either :/.

I bought the cube with the hope of video game rentals (something I lucked out with the Dreamcast) and the fact PSO would last me a long time on it.

PSO GC is still worth it in my opinion. I've been playing only a year though, which is alot shorter than most people here. After about 500, it still holds it's fun. All offline as well. You'll have your fun out of the game. Alot of new items to collect, and episode two alone is worth it. Now I'm waiting for PSO+ to play my ep2 c-mode. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_yes.gif

if you intend to continue on ep1+2, hold on a bit for pso+
ver.3, a 'patched' version for gc with some nice extras to boot http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

The biggest change is that Ultimate is a lot easier in Ep1&2 (the downside being the special weapons aren't as powerful). Also, each non-android character type now has advantages and disadvantages with regard to tech. Forces, of course, benefit a lot more from these changes.
Targeting seems more difficult for some reason; it's harder to swop from one target to another.
A positive change is the ability to add slots to armor - no more finding decent armor that is unusable because it's got no slots. There are loads of minor changes, like Photon Drops.

Of course PSOGC is worth playing. But all those hours I have put into it it is heavenly to play PSOBB that is fresh and clean. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif Really clean.
