Q: Do I need X-Box Live! in order to play Phantasy Star Online for the X-Box, even if I'm playing offline only?
A: Yes, and no.

Yes and no. Yes, you need to have or have access to a X-Box Live! Gamertag in order to play PSO on the X-Box. (Please note it says this quite clearly on the front cover of the game case.) Though, you do NOT need to be an actively subscribing X-Box Live user. There is a difference between the two that people don't understand.

Essentially, you still need to have, or have access to, a Gamertag to play PSO irregardless of your offline/online intentions.

Also, to smash this rumor down too: You do NOT have to pay $8.95 a month just to play offline, and you do NOT have to have an active X-Box Live! subscription just to play offline.

Looks like you had the same problem that I had anwserman all you need really is ,to link your xbox to ADSL or a DSL and make sure you have all the right connections linked up to your xbox and your pc then after that put your Phantasy Star Online EP1 & EP2 disk in your xbox then it should ,load up go onto offline mode and it should say creating xbox gamer tag then once you set up your gamer tag you can play offline.


P.S. If your running AOL 8 or 9 just go to keyword then put xbox live, you also need a RJ45 cable and a network card hope that helped you.

I'm actually kinda interested in how you set up your xbox through AOL DSL.

I understood what the original poster said, but Endu seems to have information that indicates otherwise.

I got my Gamertag, and its alive and well and I didn't deal with anything that Endu said.

Anwserman why do you keep saying don't listen to Endu for I'm the one trying to help all of you out at the min, but all the info I gave to you is legit, if you don't want to take info from don't but, why don't you try setting up your gamer tag on your own then Anwserman but, I'm trying to help people out so give me a break.
