Chapter 1: Chilling Return

The silent alarm that aroused the guards from their quiet slumbers was a stark contrast to the explosions that rocked the laboratory's hallways.

Each guard slept with a modified BEE communicator at his wrist, which would wake him or her with rapid vibrations. Over the years, this system had only been used once, and the survivors of that episode remembered those harrowing moments all too clearly.

But this time, instead of facing a military task force, their opponent was a lone android. A few of Ziligri's older members recalled seeing the tall, black HUcast many years ago, and all presumed that he was destroyed by Senior Operative Rigis on a rescue mission.

---

Death, as the android referred to itself, was once known as Alpha 300. On an interesting side note, Death was not the three hundredth Alpha model off the line, as the scientists seemed to pick whatever number they felt would suit the model best. In fact, there were only three other models of the Alpha line in existence.

The first, Alpha 210, had a photonic energy dispersal system. The system would take a source of photonic energy, like a photon bullet, and disperse it in a circle around the android, negating any damage. Despite successful initial tests, the android was scrapped to prevent the technology from being leaked to the outside.

Death was the next in the Alpha line. He was the first android that integrated a photonic blade into the structure, much like the Sinow machinations of Ragol's mines. He also featured a long range weapon like those of the Gillichics built into his wrists. In an ironic twist, Death was responsible for the "disappearances" of both Dr. Mendelov and Silphie Riven, the designers of the advanced HUcast. Sources presumed that Black Paper was responsible.

Alpha 360, the latest model of the line, was built two years ago. Instead of the typical HUcast chassis, the RAcast body was used as the base for this model, as it required a larger chest cabin. This model integrated a nano-bot system that produced Resta-like effects, the photon blades of Alpha 300, and the capability to jump large spans due to a feat of too complicated to explain engineering.

Alpha 360 was recently recovered from the hands of Black Paper during the Rise of the Machines incident. Unfortunately, the machine was heavily damaged, and despite the best efforts of Ziligri?s scientists, its jump capabilities and a few other subroutines could not be restored.

---

If Death had been granted the equipment to smile, he would have. It had been at least twenty years since he had last killed anyone, and these weak guards gave him some slight satisfaction. After struggling with the first few, Death found that the guard?s armor did not offer much for the neck, and a quick jab to the throat rendered the men to lifeless bags.

According to his mission data, there was one entity in this base that could offer any sort of resistance.

*Woosh!*

Death barely managed to dodge a shell that sped on to destroy part of a corridor ahead.

"Alpha 360!"

Yelled death at the maximum output his speakers would allow.

"Alpha 300... I will have much satisfaction in crushing your broken chassis under my feet."

With that, Alpha 360 launched another missile at Death, his bazooka clouding the narrow hallway with smoke.

Death, not surprisingly, dodged this missile as well, and charged forward, engaging his photon blades with a buzzing noise. In a matter of seconds, Alpha 360 found two photon blades slashing across his midsection.

Death laughed at his opponent's seeming miscalculation, not sighting the bazooka barrel hovering next to his head.

The explosion knocked Death into a wall, leaving a sizable dent, and Alpha 360 a few feet back. Cement, insulation, glass, and metal shards mixed in the air, creating a brief shrapnel storm that would have killed a human with either the projectiles or the harmful gasses afterwards.

A guard rushed into the scene as the smoke began to dissipate. He pointed his flashlight equipped Bravace into the clouds, hoping to find a friendly RAcast inside.

What he found was a purple photon spike in his chest, giving him a few moments of pain before it exploded, completely destroying his rib cage and leaving a gaping hole.

"Rigis... I'm coming for you!"

Yelled Death as the body the guard's soul once inhabited fell to the ground.

Okay folks, this is a side-story featuring Toldos, the newm killed off in the RoTM group-fic.

Brief info:

Death is the antagonist of the Origins of Solstis. Rigis is the hero, though not protagonist, of the same story.

Also, this story MAY become the middle part of the Solstis Saga, after the failure from the last try.
The last part WILL be finished at one point (swan song/Moon's Beckon).
