THIS is why I moved to Florida! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

http://image.weather.com/images/maps/tropical/spec_trop1_720x486.jpg

Hurrican Charlie is supposed to hit Naples, Florida at about noon on Friday. Winds are supposed to be at about 100mph, so if you guys never hear from me again, you know why http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

It's supposed to 'bounce' off of Cuba, where it's a type 1 hurricane right now, then develop into something more malicious as it hits SW Florida...

I had to go buy 20 lbs. of propane today and lots of gasoline... if things go according to plan, I'll be eating Chef Boyardee for a while... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_barf.gif

It's times like these that I love to live on earth! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Heh. Maybe we'll get some rain up where I live. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
I like being relatively near the coast (as opposed to my family in Oklahoma, for example), but far enough inland where we can get to the mountains easily and hurricanes are no problem.

this is why I love the UK. Sure we may get the odd ton of rain in the "summer" but we sure as hell don;t get http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif^that^^^

Where were you yesterday then because up north where I live I got absolutely drenched in a tropical storm ffs!!!!!! By time I arrived at the train station looking like a reject from singing in the rain, the bloody sun was back out and everyone kept saying "should have brought a brolly"

Should have shoved it up their asses more like!!!

^ Ya, then opened it! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Anyways, tomorrow I have to set out all of the hurricane shutters and go get more gas and ice and the like. We have a nice l'il generator that should power the 2 fridges enough keep our food nice n' fresh. Unfortunately, we use well water on our property, and if the power goes out, fresh water doesn't come out of the fawcet. In any case, we've got gallons upon gallons of bottled water in the garage - we'll also be filling up the bath tubs tomorrow and if worse comes to absolute worse, we've got an entire swimming pool full of water (bathing, i suppose...???)

If this storm is anything like what the news is saying, we'll be without power for about 3 or 4 days http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_cry.gif

Thank the fates that I have a fully charged GBA SP, a fully charged mp3 player, an extra GBA with loads of AA batteries, and....erm.... lots of..... books http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Now that we're just about COMPLETELY ready, the storm will probably miss us entirely http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

In any case...

BRING IT!!!

Chef Boyardee? Pfffftt..... I hate that crap.

Just do Campbell's.

hahahhahahaha

Really, you have to think of weather wherever you will live. Kansas = heat and humidity, Florida = heat, humidity, and storms... New York City = debris, breeze, etc

i had to, sorry =P

Well, just remembering a snow-storm we had in Colorado about 2 years ago: Our front yard had 6 fucking feet of snow - I shit you not. The worst part about that was that the storm came on my Spring Break and was gone by the time it was over http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif *angrily shakes fist at God*

By the end of that week, I had arms like a coal-miner from shoveling so much snow. Other than that, I seriously played about 75 hours of PSO in a week, so I was quite entertained.

Here, I dunno what to do without power - I'll definitely find something to do though...

Keeping in mind what people do in places like South Dakota over the winter... nothing to do... opposite sex in house.... might as well have some more kids!

unfortunately *she* lives about 20 minutes away...

Not bored yet! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

*points to location* yea.... we're ready as well. Every school county around us has had school cancelled for tomororow... except Duval County (which would be mine...)

Sef should/better be ready for this hurricane as well.

I hear the Hurricane is scheduled to hit tommorow, and that it might be one of the strongest hurricanes to hit Florida since the 1920's. I wish all you residing in it's path the best of luck. Once all electrical power is brought back up to speed (since it always seems to go out in these situations), I expect to hear that you are all alive and well. God speed, everyone.

^ Bah! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

This is only a type 2 hurricane, it MAY be type 3 by the time it hits shore, but even then - nothing to fear your life over. Our house is fairly far inland and only about 10 miles from Ground Zero. Unfortunately, the epicenter won't pass over our house, so we won't get to see the great "eye" of Hurricane Charley, but it should be fun, regardless. XP

Nevertheless, 105 mph winds are nothing to ignore - my only hope is that our pygmy goats don't go crashing into my car http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif Cuz' they're NOT coming into the house! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Is it sort of strange that I'm only worried about 1 person through all of this, and it's not me?

Well, since you seem to be doing fine... let me retract my God Speed and instead say... HAVE FUN! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Hmm, we have a digital camera, but my picture-posting ineptitude overrides your request http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I'm hoping it will be a sight to remember, though I'm thinking it will probably just be really dark http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

With my bedroom window covered by metal plating, my room is like a tomb - we'll see if I even wake up for the storm http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_cowsleep.gif

Well, this is it: when I wake up tomorrow, we'll be in the warpath, trying to keep sheltered and safe. Not the end of the world or anything...

I'm just glad I managed to get to the bank today and convert all of my cash into gold bars...

http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I'll be back on as soon as I can - thank you for your well-wishings Rico, I'm sure we'll all try to keep safe.

If you really mean that, then I congratulate you for looking at a force that most people consider a terrible disaster, and seeing it as a tremendous opportunity.

*chh*

This is Aredhel reporting with *chhh* Fox News *chh*

http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Things started to look more and more grim as the day progressed; after the Air Force reconnaiscence plane returned, we were able to pick up on the storm's true potential - it was almost immediately upgraded to a type 4 Hurricane (there's only 5) as winds towards the eye of Charley were measured at 145 mph. It's now 6pm, and since high tide has passed, we are no longer in danger of serious flooding from coastal regions due to Hurricane Charley's influence.

Our house was totally fine - winds never got past 50 mph and the only "damage" was to a mushy, old tree out back. Amazingly, our area retained power all day long, with the exception of occaisonal dimmings. Some portions of areas affected by Charley, though, weren't so lucky - there's apparently severe damage to downtown Naples and a lot of Coastal neighborhoods (go figure).

The most amazing part about this was not the impressive wind speed or the 10 inches of rain, but the fact that real people were interviewed on the news as to the state of their area, and they took the time to open their houses to helpless refugees from the storm; people who had hurricane-ready, barricaded HOMES that they were willing to open to anyone who needed safety from the elements. This is where God is at; not in some three-thousand year-old book, or some pompously gilded cathedral, but in the open arms of good-hearted people willing to help their fellow man.

By all reports, our city is due-in for a few days a inconvenience, but due to hurricane shelters, preparedness, and decent human beings, the humans of southwest Florida were, in general, kept fairly safe through all of this. But this is all just preleminary - the storm is somewhere, and somebody is being affected by it. For those of you with a God - please pray for those with hard times ahead.
