I don't know, but I'm sure someone here can clear that up.

Either way, why do they say it? All the time, after every single sentece, it's ay/eh ALL THE TIME ay/eh.

The answer is simple, my friend: They don't!

Case closed. >:

..it's called dialect. :

It's just in with how they talk, so it's normal. It's like this all over the world, depending on where you go, people will have different things they add in or with how they talk.

Are you certain Abdur ay/eh?

Rotis

Aww, my old orch director was Canadian... he didn't have much of an accent, but every now and then he'd throw in a little "eh?" at the end of a sentence, which delighted us to no end <g>

[Edit: Ahahah! Freudian slip! Thanks for catching that gypsy, I never would've noticed otherwise... this is why I need to go to sleep now...]

I never heard myself say that. Seriously.

It's like a picture. Eevery time you picture canada you think cold, winter, esquimos, north pole, santa claus, beavers, mooses and people saying "eh?".

I'm telling it aint cold here (where i live), we're not close to the north pole (well closer than you, yes), i dont have any esquimos ramming in my door begging for food, santa dont exist here, beavers and moose dont livein citys, and i dont say EH!!!

I know some Canadian people and I have yet to hear them say 'ey. It's kind of prejudice thinking all Canadians say that when it's just a select few. I mean, Americans talk different depending on what part of the country your on.

...damnit..I thought my post would spur a "stupid american stereotype" by Rotis..but..she must have been too tired to start it :

YOU DAMN AMELICANS AND YOUR STUPID STEREOTYPES!!

Just like they say "aboot" instead of "about".
j/k (sorry about that one...)

Dialects differ between regions all over the world (duh). After living in Minnesota for eight years, and then moving to Mississippi with my mother, I thought everyone here talked like they had either speech impediments or payed no attention in English class. Up in Minnesota, we were taught to speak properly and completely sound out words. But here in the south, people talk fast, oft slurring thier speech and using terms very different than what I was used to hearing (i.e. they use "tight" instead of "cool", although they still use the word "cool", they use it in an entirely different manner).

It all depends on the region and the people living there.

iwhen visiting alberta (thats canada) all the people say eh..

people in minnesota have accents but its very light, i could hardly tell
