View Full Version : A krap defense is a good defense.

So, we all know how L80 characters won't have to get instakilled by Baranz, while L200 characters will. Maybe it's not 'instakill', but when they get hit once, they basically always die from the other bullets.

So; a krap defense might be a good defense.

Does anyone know how much defense you can have at most to be able to not get completely combo'd in a Baranz attack online? Same for similar combo attacks I guess, like Gal Gryphon and I heard Dal Ra Lie's purple blob attack.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to have an L200 character survive that, that would be interesting. I'm not sure if the formulas on this are known, maybe someone with AR should make an L200 fonewearl without mats or equipment, to check if it works.

It might be useful to know, for making a character and managing stats. Getting combo'd is one of the really few ways high level people die in ultimate. Megid being the other one... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

It seems to be actually HP that determines whether or not you get knocked down. For example, if I use 3 God/HPs on him, Zero has 1300 HP and will die to things like Baranz or Recons. But if I take them off and knock him down to 1100something, he gets knocked flat on his ass and survives. No change in DFP, just in HP.

And also, aren't Baranz missiles fixed damage? At least, Jellen never seemed to matter on them, and even with the Deband from a 4-way max IQ PB chain, they still seem to kick everyone's ass just the same as they do with normal L30... *shrug*

Exactly. You get knocked off if you lose more than a set percentage of HP. I don't know the formula myself, but I would tip on about 20%. I would have to hook the DC to check...

So that would mean using no hp materials -.-;. Great.
Gah, not much to do about it then... aw well.

Strange how some hits won't put you down, but others, such as a Morfos shot, a Sinow Zele hit, or even a Dololm whack, will. Is there some other factor involved besides HP?

You all may not believe this, but I believe that defense has a great big of a deal when it comes to regular physical attacks. But, for enemies that have fixed damage like Dark gunner and Morfos, etc., then I would say that Hp matters then not defense.

And HP (with good attributes) plays a major role in fighting against Dark Falz, not defense. Defense is good for regular attacks such as from Rappies for example, and HP is good for surviving in a fixed damage. No matter how high the defense is, a fixed damage will not inflicts less damage.

Your standard defense stat is good enough, especially with the equipments. IMO it is not worth raising DEF on a mag nor using Def materials (unless you are at Lv 200 wanting to max it out or perhaps already is maxed at that or before that lv).

Def is a rubbish stat that I keep low.

Firstly as a hucast I am wanting to do maximium damage possible so keep def low on mag and material useage

Secondly damage take is the quickest way to gain a PB therefore having low def means quicker PB which means quicker Turbo M&Y mode.

I just love how mothmants are the deadliest animals in Ult forest. If they swarm you, you'll end up getting pecked to pieces http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif. I witnessed a lvl180 hunter suffer that fate and God damn it was awful; the poor guy had no chance at all http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_cry.gif.

Actually the lack of a 'grace period' from getting hurt online isn't so much of a problem since Baranz missiles can be dodged with the age-old trick of circling the bastard, and Da Ral Lie's blobby blob blobs can be dodged if your reactions are fast enough http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif. Same goes for Olga, Barba and other such enemies.

Speaking of Olga, his spinning circling green beam attack (whatever) is practically harmless offline so they obviously designed him with Online in mind, especially with his random immunities.

I thought 'how easy is this game' when I was allowed time to heal after every single hit. Luckily online mode tries to make the game a little more challenging http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif.

IMO Cure/freeze, getting knocked down to the floor after every hit etc. take the fun out of the game since the only time this game is exciting (outside of EP2 Cmode boss battles http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif) is when you get frozen or potentially 1 hit KO'd. Or when that elusive Red Box drops http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif.

Na you cant always avoid the Baranz or cave bosses blob attacks. Even if you have been playing for 4 years you will still get hit sometimes when the ULT cave boss shoots out the blobs. On a 'Toward The Future' quest you get 3 Baranz blocking the door and I can die the second I step in the room, getting hit by about 20 rockets at once. Nothing I can do about it because my FOmar's HP is something like 1400 even with no God/HP's on. I certainly wouldnt be able to stick around in the room long enough to kill them myself. But it is only fatal when playing Ultimate Online mode. Its best to have an android in your team for the Baranz rooms, to freeze them or drop a confuse trap so they kill each other.

Yeah, a confuse trap is best for TTF where you get those Baranz.... stick a confuse trap down and its over within a matter of seconds without even having to do anything. Its important the drop the trap then leg it.. my friend found out the hard way

defense can also help you if you know how to use it
what i did is max my defense, and heal with fluids when i am surrounded, waiting for my nidra to get upset and hopefull i will get untouchable and with a 100 pb for a 4 way Uber S & D!, if you know the tactics defense can turn the game upside down in your favor!
