Anyone know where Phantasy Star got it's name?

It's been bugging me for years. Why isn't it spelled like Fantasy Star?

Cheers.

Possibly to distance itself from "Final Fantasy" (one popular rumor is that Sega approached Nintendo about putting Phantasy Star on the NES; Nintendo turned them down flat, choosing to bank on Dragon Warrior instead).

Possibly to place the emphasison the fact that it is not a "Dungeons & Dragons" type of "fantasy", having a rather heavy leaning toward science fiction...

*shrug* My two mesetas', take 'em or leave 'em.

[EDIT: speeling]

Probably to be unique. Also, one of the main RPG series is named, of course. Final Fantasy. Sega probably didn't want people to think it was a cheap rip-off.

At least it wasn't Pantasy Star. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

EDIT: Dammit, OnnaWren beat me to it. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Thanks for the replies. I know it sounds like a silly question. It has always looked like an odd spelling error to me.

Phantasy is just an alternative spelling for fantasy. It's a real word in case you're wondering http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif.

Yes, I belive its root word is the Latin phantasma, meaning "a figment of the imagination".
