Well i finally found Phantasy star online for gamecube in the stores and i decided to pick it up (i've wanted it for awhile actually, but i could never find it until now http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif ) I have v1 for my dreamcast still and i notice a big improvemnet (more fair drops for 1 thing) but i have questions of some of the changes. I did the fake in yellow quest and got the gba minigames..after finishing the quests I noticed that the download terminal dissapeared...does this mean i'll need to do every quest (as to be able to select quests a second time like in v1) to have a chance at downloading any of them to my gba again?

The other thing i've been wondering is about the challange mode, when playing offline can it olny be played in multiplayer mode or is there a way to do it by yourself? While i did get my brother to say he liked the game, i don't think i could convince him enough to play through that entire mode with me http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

A final question relates to playing online, i'm still not too hot on the idea of needing to pay $10 every month for this game to play online, is there at least a way to pay for a 3 month period or so at a time, rather than every month? (this would be more to please the owner of the credit card that would perfer this than myself) I tried pso online with my dreamcast when v1 was made free...but the modem trick (since i have cable) made lag so heavy that i was lucky to even see any games pop up in the list, although being able to find the bba much easyer than the dreamcast one ever was is rather tempting, the money issue (since i'm already paying for one mmorpg, ragnarok online) makes it become rather questionable.

Is it really worht it to play online?

Thanks!

Ok. Welcome fellow vet^^

Cmode can't be done alone offline.

And.....

if you mainly play at nights, yes GC PSO is worth playing online. If you're legit..there's two ships you can play on, free from cheaters, and so called misjudged vega resident players. If you only play in the mornings..waste of money, unless you want to play with JP players. Which I do..

Altair(sp?) 4 and Denab 9.

There is no way to have a 3 month pay period option. It's every month. But the payment system is user friendly. You can cancel anytime, and reactivate anytime. So if the card owner hits some hard times and can't afford to pay it or just not liking the idea of paying, no problem. And when they are able again, you can always reactivate your HL. No need to sign up again or whatever.

I'd be more likely to play nights, although i would problaby end up doing both. But i don't mind playing with people of another language since i could converce with universal chat (witch would probalby be faster without a keyboard anyway...the one thing i think i would miss from dc era...affordable keyboard)

The little flexablity in the payment plan sorta stinks, but at least i'm quite positive that i won't loose charater data (unlike server side saveing games). If i manage to route ethernet cable down to the basement(where the gc is) you may just see me onlike someday maybe http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Yes, you do have to redo every quest to download, and Offline Challenge isn't worth it. All the prizes have low stats anyway.

If you want you can try the 56k modem. I know where you can get one for 50$.

uhh..but don't the bba and 56k cost about $35? Besides, a modem was what made it unplayable for me on the dreamcast, i'm going to broadband or nothing. That's a really dumb idea with the linkup though..they should have made it so it's there permantly after you activate it...ah well

In the EU, there's an option to pay in installments of 1 month or 3 months (with a very marginal discount =/). I don't think SEGA bills your card automatically here. It's different in the US though, I think.

The Datel Powerboard is cheap, but sucky I hear. You can buy a more reliable adaptor from Lik-Sang and just plug your PC keyboard in. That also happens to be cheaper.

Losing characters because of server-side saving? It's the other way around actually http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif. People have corrupted their memory cards before (thanks to all the game saving that happens) and also you lose all unequipped items if you do not Save & Quit (ie. there's a power cut). Basically learn to carry only ONE weapon at a time, and if you find a new rare make sure you pipe up to Pioneer 2 and dump it in the checkroom. With a USB memory card you can back your save files up, and there's also another method that uses only the BBA (but I'm not going to say any more about that here). Most people get away without corrupting so it's widespread.

always talking in caps lock with the adaptor seems annoying..but what's bad about the datel one? i can't even seem to find it. Heh, though i meant loseing a charater for cansleing my subscription, but i did forget about that problem (heh, i still remember the time i was nol'd in v1...i was lvl 2 at the time so i got a free upgrade to 5 http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif )

The Datel Keyboard has low response relay. In other words, when you press a key, there is a high chance of it not registering and you have to press the key again. And alot of symble keys, like semicolons and such are encoded wrong(this is an EU based keyboard.) An = sign is not an = sign for example..but the key is there. Some keys also don't have thier funtions..

The keyboard sucks..but there is an alternative, but that will cost money. I'm sure you've heard of the ASCII keyboards. 100$+..

Get BBA please. 29.99, yes 34$ with shipping. BBA killed it for alot of people during the DC PSO version 2 days, it did for me, cause that was when everyone was trying out broadband.

When you cancel you do not lose any information partaining to your character.

I'm gonna either get the bba, or get nothing..no way i'm dumbing down to 56k when i have cable handy! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif But i guess i could at least take advantage of my free month http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif If you see charaters named Alexander (hunter) or Chubtiger (force) say hi http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif I do still wanna feel the full expience of pso after all this time since v1

well the broadband adaptor is olny better if you have broadband internet, if you don't then there's little use for it. As for a virus on it, it's sort of impossible (or at least very inpractial) for a virus on a video game console..since nothing can boot from the olny place data can be saved (memory card), any virus can be fixed by a reset of the machine. Game saves can get croupted but you can't get a virus
