iPod Question

I am giving some serious thought to cashing in on the amazingly true deal where you can get a free iPod by doing some surveys. The whole idea is to make people believe in ads again.

Anyway, since my laptop doesn't, to my knowledge, at least, have a FireWire port or plug or whatever, I was wondering. Since FireWire is supposed to be like uber fast, how long would it take me to upload about 2.35 gigs into an iPod using USB instead of FireWire? Hours? Days? >_>;

Nope.... Firewire is only a little bit faster then USB (and I assume you mean USB v.2 when you say USB), and that the time taken might only mean a minute or so longer in ideal conditions.

According to http://www.digit-life.com/articles/usb20vsfirewire/ , they did some file-copying with USB v.2 against Firewire.

Copying a gigabyte (spread over 1 file)
USB Connection: 1min 20sec.
Firewire Connection: 48.9sec.

Copying a gigabyte (spread over 9776 files)
USB: 1min 30 sec.
Firewire: 1min 18.4sec.


Conclusion... the speed difference will only cost you perhaps a total of five minutes or so, max. Granted, the slower the PC the longer it will take, but that is a CPU problem and not one with USB vs. Firewire.

Yeah, I was talking about USB 2.0/v.2. And I'm glad it won't be much slower. Thanks for the help. ^_^

iPods are pricey little gadgets to be giving away for free. Any other deals like that on other consumer electronics (like small 15" HDTV's)? Also.. PM me the site. I'd like to look over their ToS and get some reviews from the net about the deal.
