View Full Version : Better chances of getting rare enemy?

We all know that piping helps get you rare enemies, usually done in places with a high amount of a certain enemy. But for Ep2, the highest amount of Lillies is 5, Rappies 2-3. Hildes 2. (max in room)

So let's say, you wanted to pipe for a Temple Rare Enemy.

If you did it in the room, where there is like 3 Lillies, 2 Rappies, and 2 Torrs. Would the Lillies, Rappies, and Hildes all together in the same room increase the chance of a Rare Enemey appearing?

I was just curious since, the appearance for a Rare Enemy is 1/400+ (or something), so maybe more enemies in one room, (regardless of type, just as long as they have a rare enemy counter part), would increase the chance of a rare enemy appearing?

Most likely. If there are rappies, hildes, and lillies in the same room the chances that each one becomes it's rare counterpart increases.

More Rappies means more chances to find a Love Rappy.
More Lilies does not mean more chances to find a Love Rappy. :/

Assuming the odds are the same for a particular monster being rare across all Temple monster, the larger the group of potential rare monsters you have, the greater the likelihood will be that one becomes its rare version after piping.

For example, suppose you have groups of 6 and 5 monsters, all of which can possibly be rare. If you pipe, a rare monster should appear in the 6 monster group first.

I stopped piping now...because I don't really need rare enemy's...but you know what is very cool... the most rare enemy's come...when you don't expect them...happened to me many times...Pal Rappy's,Nar Lily's and a hildebeu and my 1st and only Love Rappy...

i've never bothered with the piping thing, if a rare enemie is going to appear in my game then it will when its good and ready. im not wasting time going back up to pioneer2 and back down again for half an hour just to see something new

Why aren't you proud to have a piped elysion? You are one of the few who took the time (and maby even frustration) to sit there and don't obay(sp?) to the laws of pso. Piping is extremly usuefull and even frustrating. They who have the patiente to pipe for endless hours just to get that one rare are tough, since piping can take just as long as a hunt. An when you have your FS, piped, you'll think different about piping http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

I don't like piping for lots of reasons, but if you really have to have a specific weapon/item and you play legit, it's the only way.

Seriously, the odds of you getting a Psycho Wand just randomly playing are far too remote to even think about.

I can tell you, however, that I hate rappies! Piped 42 in Skyly (rare rappies) and still have yet to get that Angel Harp. Love Rappy dropped Heart of Poumn, but it's hard to pick up when you are dead from a megid attack from the Ob behind you that you forgot about (damn the noob who took MY rare and then dropped a moon!). Saint Rappy walked into a stray magic attack and scurried off before I could get a shot at him (damn force noob spamming gifoie!).

I hate those stupid little birds!

Now those beautiful bluish flowers on the hand have been very generous indeed.

Back on topic, I think Ep II rares are tough to pipe for because the number count is so much less which makes the Respective Tomorrow quest AWESOME! (no piping, just run after run).

Ep I rares are much easier to pipe for due to the offine quests and Towards the Future (no piping, just run after run).

Oddly, I've seen quite a few rare enemies in c-mode for all the good that does us. Nothing like making the solo run in Temple and having to take on a Hildeblue by yourself - yipes!

You don;t need Psycho Wand, and the chances of you getting a "random" Psycho Wand are the same as if you did runs. >>;
Piping just makes a controlled environment, bending the rules in your favor.

Skorpius, I'm having trouble understanding your post.

My FOnewm, I felt, did NEED a Psycho Wand for what I was trying to do with him and with it, he's awesome. Just my opinion, but one shared by other FOnewm players as well. It was just an example, btw.

As for the random drop concept, if you're piping a room with say seven lillies and you can see 70 lillies in a few minutes with piping, your chance of getting a rare one goes up immensely as compared to randomly running through caves with one or two lillies per cave.

Doing Rappies Quest and piping the last two rooms, for example, I can usually get a rare rappy or two for about every half-hour of piping. Playing randomly, I've gone over a month without seeing a rare rappy.

That's why most legit players with an arsenal of rare weapons/items have at one time or another piped for ones they had trouble getting.

Most PSO players consider piping to be a perfectly acceptable, and recommended, strategy to pursue very rare drops off of rare enemies.
