I thought it was recalled from shelves. This is a bit OT but the dreamcast PSO community could be growing by a few people in JP servers for nostalgia if nothing else.

Not that much of a surprise. I think the Japanese appreciate more the Dreamcast than US players. Well look at the game list yourself :/ They have tons of cool games for it but...

I can't believe the Game Boy Color outsold the Dreamcast. That's just not right. O.o

Well when a system is being sold for like 3 dollars anyone can buy it.

I don't even think it's worth mention. Woopty do the DC sold 190 units in a week in all of Japan. BUT the unit right above it, the Gameboy Color, sold 2000 units in a week. I think it still points to the system being dead either way you look at it. I bet the sales were mostly repair sales anyway, Dreamcasts break easily.

i bought mine the first day it was released and never had a problem with it....maybe dropping it from the roof of your house could break it...hmm maybe..

Yeah, and PS2s are infamous for thier DRE (disc read errors) and Xbox's are known to scratch discs (and the Japanese faulted easily). No console is perfect. Heck, I got through 3 PSOne's, and don't even get me started on the GBA screen or the GC's build quality.

I always thought N64's were reliable enough since one:

People rarely played them for hours and hours at a time.

and two:

No loading of discs. (Only the fact that the cartridge connectors could go bad or the system's connectors as well made it not reliable.)

But with the 4 meg ram cart. it got hot as hell and dangerous to the touch. Glad it didn't melt the plastic casing around itself.

I dunno, I played my 64 a lot and still play it some and for some reason mine never got "too hot to touch." I think it did pretty well for being the last of the cartridge consoles.

Actually no it is not. There was a flaw that affected a limitend number of users in Japan and the situation was resolved by a recall. (let's see sony do that)

Yes there was a recall and Microsoft tried there best to cover it up, but even so it was too late and stores were already boycotting the machine.

The same problem actually came up with certain PAL models of the machine. My friend's copies of Rallisport and NHL Hitz have both been scratched while in the console. Except MS just told him to take it back to where he bought it.

Uh if you call an official announcement a cover up then sure. Also the boycott of which you speak was infact stores not selling machines until the defect was identified.

Ah, but be fair, you need to add some variety, where's the Columbian terrorist, the American terrorist, and all the other sorts? Lack of diversity makes terrorists sad ;(

Of course there was an official announcement, although that conflicted by saying it was a small problem, yet reports from other places were saying differently.

Also the boycott of which you speak was infact stores not selling machines until the defect was identified.

Some decided to sell the machine again, others are supposedly refusing to re-order after they've got through their initial shipment from February.

Because there are far more Islamic terrorists that hate the Western world? Americans not dying makes terrorists sad. ;(

Actually The problem was rather Isolated, only a few of the Xboxs had that problem. Your exadurations are pointless.

Hmmm...there aren't really any Islamic terrorists, because the teachings of Islam are 100% against such acts, therefore it's not "Islamic Terrorist", they are no longer considered muslim. Classifying them as "Islamic Terrorist" is putting down the religion.

They are merely terrorists, call them "middle eastern" terrorists, it fits alot better.

And my first X-box had a fault. It would'nt read certain games, DOA3 for example. The game itself was perfect, no problems with the disc, but the X-box could'nt read it correctly, causing the sound to skip/stutter(that's practically what it sounded like too, abunch of stutters). I think alot of consoles have a batch of bad ones, if you have a problem, just take it back. Thats why I never order consoles online, because it's such a pain in the ass to get it returned in good time. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Enough for a media outcry, which spread overseas and into publications.

Your exadurations are pointless.

I'm simply relaying what fellow gamers who live in Japan have told me about the situation. And really, you don't have to look hard to see how Xbox is holding up in Japan. The numbers speak volumes.

Dangerous55
Jul 13, 2002, 09:54 PM
Thats because the Japanese hate any foreign games or machines. If the X-box was made by a Japanese developer it would be topping the charts.

GhoStar
Jul 13, 2002, 09:59 PM
I think it's more to do with it lacking a killer-app to appeal to the Japanese crowd. Like a completely original Dragon Quest game, that would shift a few million systems.

Dangerous55
Jul 13, 2002, 10:03 PM
True that didnt help either. Halo was the killer app for the Western gamers. But the Japanese dont like FPS's that much.

But still, notourisly they have been against foreing gaming machines.

GhoStar
Jul 13, 2002, 10:09 PM
They were against the Genesis too, mainly because that system had games that appealed to Western audiences.

Still, the Genesis did fine by being first place in the US, Europe and the rest of the world minus Japan. Hopefully Xbox can get a similar type of following. The only problem is that PS2 is already ruling all those areas and selling at rediculous rates.

I wonder why the Gameboy Color outsold the DC. No wait no I don't. The Japanese always get cool add ons to Japanese made consoles like the Gameboy Color's cell phone add on adapter to play Poke'mon etc. with other Japanese.

Its really a matter of what system is Japanese/popular/has a FF or DQ game/Dating or horse racing sim http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif in Japan.

As far as I know the Xbox in Japan has nothing significant(games or peripherals) that the US doesn't other than having the smaller controller from day one not having to buy another for $30 darn Micro$oft!
