View Full Version : BA mode: an opinion on the forgotten basics

The thing I like about battle mode the most is how it is never the same. You can?t predict every move your opponent will make, unlike the enemies of the regular game. Your opponents are real. They can dish out impressive tactics and skills, or they can mess up big time. No one will ever be able to own battle mode like ultimate mode can be owned. There will always be someone who can defeat you, but there is always room for improvement. Level 200 is not the limit of your ability.

The battlers I respect the most are the ones who play fair. I do not respect the use of cheating devices or intentional lagging. I also have more respect for someone who plays a challenging class for the challenge than for someone who plays an easy class because it?s an easy victory. I respect people who play for fun, regardless of whether they win or lose; they did not fight to gain another win to add to their score. A score is meaningless when it was obtained by picking on the weak.

The best teammates are the ones that try their best to be a team, not the ones that try to be a one-man army. The best teammates are the ones that don?t get enraged and curse and call you names when you make a mistake (we are all human). Instead, they give you advice if they see a way for you to improve.

The truly best players are the humble ones. They do not brag or be poor sports. They go into battle with good attitudes, and no matter how many times you defeat them, they will still have fun.

After all, it's just a game.

Yay. ^^ You've inspired me.

It's a shame most people couldn't care less about the way they carry themselves in battle mode. It all boils down to how seriously people take the game. Maybe we take it too seriously?

I hated it when ppl would whine becuase i would set traps at warps and wait for them to warp in and then go for a kill... they had Resta and Megid and all that other junk while i didnt. ( HUcast)

Why don't you tell that to IGN PSO board. They over-exagerate(sp) the lag in battle mode and complain about the collision system. Boo freaking hoo.

I think you're right. Fighting monsters means you have pretty much automatic responses to there actions. Anyone whos played more than about 200 hours will have honed the step back from a dimenians attack to perfection.

Then I play BA for the first time in ages and find a totally new approach to the game. Lag times may mean you can never have the same precision against a fellow hunter, but BA opens up a whole new tactical approach.

Yes, you are right. I can't wait for the many PSO GC tournaments that will be held. And this time almost all of the classes will be there to try out their new stats and skills. No more HU+FO for a while.

Actually it is a laggy piece of crap. You would see a guy about 30 feet from you then you would just fall over.

He's right, thats why a lot of people use Mech guns in battle as a combination of 9 shots and lag can kill you very easy.

Yep heh.. its actually interesting now that I see people don't take this as the norm. Us Aussies fight heaps, and we all assume mechs = all 9 bullets in one hit. That's just how it goes with the lag for us heh..
But we all use it, doesn't ruin it one bit I think.

Reading that first post, now would be a good time to mention my purple RAcast, Kaloo, got his 200th (and 201st) win tonight! GOOOO RACAST!! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

My mate found a Frozen Shooter recently. Yes, a real Frozen Shooter - we've all been screaming to find one and now someone has. And the teamwork it sets up in rule 1 is fantastic.. after all these hours we're suddenly having the best rule 1s we've ever had. Very much becoming a "capture the Frozen Shooter".. we apply our own 'standard' rules which make it all work and fun and everything hehe, like no state mait, but no j/z either, so we don't have to worry about j/z, but can still mess about with traps. Stuff like that.

200 wins http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
A recent win was a beauty.. two RA droids vs a HUmar and FOnewm, all maxed except the other droid on my team. Lost one, then won one.. and the win was DAMN GOOD WORK!! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
Our mob has been going at it in Rule 1 for so many months now heheh.. v2 armours FIIIIIINALLY coming into it (3 of our lot have one), and this is upsetting the EDK balance for everyone again, and add on the Frozen shooter, and droids, and high mach% (which are suspiciously common in PSO imo).. and all the battles have suddenly become great big messy, balanced, hilarious wars.

Oh man 4 people in 1 corridor and two Delsabers absolutely losing their mind chasing everyone.. with people getting frozen left right and center.. Ohhhh god damn lol.. a day passed and I still can't not laugh when recalling that.

With a bunch of long term friends, where cheating/dupes/anything illegit has never existed, and always growing, learning, finding new weapons and trying new strategies.. man battling in rule 1 and 5 just blows away any other gameplay PSO has to offer. This thread just cops my excitement hehe 'cos after something like 3000 hours I just had equal to the most fun I've ever had playing the game!

All well said.I loved battle for it's background and not being able to see people on the map.I could battle for days and days if the chance was taken. But the no FO rules really started to hurt me >.>.

All in all I like a good game of battle mode,it's just something about it http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Very well said, I agree completely. Too many players seem to take BA mode too seriously, which sometimes can spoil the fun. Everyone should walk away from a game with good feelings towards their opponents, not resentment.

Non FO rules? Or do you mean how everyone makes non-FO games?

2,3,4,6 and 8 all suit FO imo.

1 and 5 require at least 1 FO per team otherwise the FO team is stuffed, 7 is .. actually a bit balanced.. but leans to the droids.

Try being a RA hehe.. once I beat a HUmar and FOmarl in Rule 3. No magic. No weapon. Not one. Hehehe ok so they were n00bs.. but so was I! I'm still proud of that heh..

And rule 8 heh.. Does anyone get Rule 8 yet? That was made as if nothing but FO exist heh...

I liked 1 & 5 with friends, because most all the time i'd get caved in with 180% needles.I dunno,it's like when im rwady for some BA id see stuff like"R6 NO FO" stuff.I dunno, mabey it was the rafoie...I had to learn that was pretty goodm in BA the hard way http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

But I still had the bests of times fighting with Myu and Floogy,no one cared about FO's vs HU http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_mad.gif.

I really don't like lag because it seems like I get beat up more (and my tactics fail) when it's present, but until everyone gets the ideal internet connection, we're going to have to live with it. Lag can make a game very interesting - a few times when I was playing rule 5 with some friends, our weapons did not show up on each other's screens and it wound up looking like a fist fight. o.O

As for "HU only" games, I can understand why sometimes people don't want to play with other classes to keep it balanced. It seems like some people create fonewms just to get BA wins. Of course, sometimes we have to prove it to these people that character class isn't the only factor in the game. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif Some of my best games have been with hucasts, racaseals, and ramars.

Well said. The lag is there, sometimes it can be funny to see what happens when people lag. As for the people who don't like battle mode because of the lag, you guys and girls don't play it so that's good.

The reason you see "R6NO FO" is because well, forces are cheap in battle mode. There used to be countless forces, especially FOnewms running around picking on hunters and rangers for basically free battle wins. I hated that. Nowadays it's mostly HUmar and HUmar versus HUmar and HUmar...I'm obviously talking about rule 6, the most played rule.
