View Full Version : What Sega says about XBOX PSO...

Microsoft insists that the game to launch with XBOX Live is "PSO2". Sonic Team calls it "PSO: Working Title". Thus far, we have screenshots of V2 areas with the GCN's graphical facelift. In short, we have no idea what game the XBOX'll be getting.

I e-mailed Sega and asked for details about the XBOX version (What character classes it will have, what areas, et al), and this is what I got back:

Thank you for e-mailing Sega Technical Support. Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II is projected to be released in Fall. Please check http://www.sega.com. Thank you and have a great day.

[...Insert irrelevant advertising here...]

Sincerely,

Sega of America Technical Support

I checked Sega.com, and there is no mention of the GCN version nor the XBOX version anywhere. I know this Sega rep's report that the XBOX is getting PSO episode I and II may be incorrect, but 'tis interesting, nonetheless.

Just as long as no one makes outrageous remarks ("It's going to be a port of V2, jerk!", "It's most certainly going to be Episode I and II, dumbass!"), we'll be fine...

Because we must despritly cling to any news-like item that is released or found out about our dear game, of which we know next to nothing. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

This forum.. is so quote-happy. Has anyone realised that? Look at that one.. it was the last reply..

Argh makes it all so messy to read.. and quotes inside quotes >_<. We KNOW what they said we just read it.

Heh XBox = broadband. Ends any debate for me, I can't afford that. Besides, real voices would absolutely kill the game, entirely, imho. I think for alot of people that's where XBox PSO starts and stops - broadband.

...And for the lot of people who are foresighted/lucky enough to have BroadBand, lag free PSO will be a treasure trove. And what's wrong with voice chat?...wait, no. Don't answer that. I've heard it all before. (It'll wake up our parents/babies! The deaf/mute won't be able to play! Dispite the fact that there is word-select, it will ruin all possible communications with forginers!)

"It's going to be Ver.2 you jerk!"
-sigh- no comment on that last reply -__-;

Anyway, we still don't know what it can be. But on MY OPINION I think there's a 75% chance it will be a GC port and 25% that it could be Ver.2 . I seriously think Sonic Team won't be unfair and give Xbox owners an old Version :/ Still if there is an additional fee to pay, odds are it will have some downloadable stuff like patches or updates that GC version won't have for obvious reasons, even if it is Ver.2 that will probably happen. When you think about it, a lot of stuff is possible with a hard drive, you could download new costumes, new lobbies, even a new P2. Which also points to another possibility which is new stages. Of course this is all in wait and see, they said they'll release more information on August so I hope we have more FACTS by then.

Hearing the anger in peoples voices, the real insults and the tone that goes with them. Will not be good imo.

Hearing real smartarses.. actually sound like that. I'd hate it.

Text creates a .. kinder culture. Its alot easier to switch off when you can't hear it..

Won't be able to say lol, or ^-^, or roflmao, or ^o^, or o_O... or anything.

How long will doing voice impressions last?

And the parents/babies is just as heavy a reason.. and those who'd prefer their housemates/family not hearing how they play PSO.

Talking in PSO.. will kill the game imo.

That is just Revolt, not PSO...http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Well no one knows what, but Xbox will only be a ver.2 port if Nintendo bought the exclusive content of eps2...

wait till TGS guys...Beta test will start around TGS...it's mid Sept...
And I think Microsoft will have a private show sometimes soon...So wait for a month or so...http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Gee, and I thought the inclusion of the fluxuations in voices and the ability to convey meaning via voice would be a worthy addition. After all, it would eliminate emoticons and "(j/k)".

There's a world of difference between "Hey" (Stop that! What do you think you're doing?!) and "Hey" (Howdy, how are things going?) that can only be conveyed through voice. Same thing with "Shut up!" (Jokingly, stop embarressing me, friend.) and "Shut up!" (Hey you! Who do you think you are?! Be quiet!) and many more examples.

Voice chat will make things quicker and easier, not to mention add the ability to communicate with your teamates during battle without being pulverized.

Yeah that's why people type comments during the revival process after you die in battle mode.

Quicker and easier won't increase playability, nor decrease the tone of an insult.
Having long term mates over the months.. will be wierd with them sounding like robots, or whatever voice covering they might use.

Its alot easier to be taken the wrong way with speech, than with text.
Anything said in text can be shrugged off.. a =p, "mofo lol" or "J00 IS TEH EXP H0!!1~~!" are examples of meaning being conveyed through text that speech can't do. Text is simply alot kinder. If you say "HEY!" with speech, the bad feeling gets through. People feel it.

You sure? Mamak's billing it as PSO.

And quicker and easier does make the game more playable. In challenge mode, one could give out orders that were impossible using the keyboard. And, besides, most of the chatting is done with laughs intermingled with the language. Haven't you ever played AFO for the DC?

And if one types "Hey!" on the keyboard, you're unsure if they're giving an excited greeting, or if they want you to stop what you're doing.

The article is geared toward Xbox Live, not just PSO. PSO is mentioned in the article, but Revolt is as well.

And hence, it isn't taken the wrong way. People wait. Text can't go sour, its natural ambiguity makes us stop and consider. Even then, take it the bad way and its fine, it doesn't hurt. People can't feel the edge in a textual insult.
A 14 year old maybe, who is just plain sick of whatever, for any reason.. the tone of voice here will really put people down. Really bad feelings created, that extend way past the irritation textual flaming can do.

In challenge mode it would be good yes. Asuming you play it like we play in text. And I don't think it won't sound cool and be fun at times to hear reactions to funny events. But these aren't what I'm worried about.

Simply, with full speech, what happens when people get annoyed. Humans let their light shine through. Tone of voice gets under the skin.

And playing a game out loud is not something I want to be doing all night..

I mean those pictures in that link is just of Revolt...not PSO...at least from what I think it is...And from another japanese website, they report that gamespot japan received revolt and that's the game they tested in that link. The real beta test in Japan hasn't begun yet...That one will come with PSO...they expect it to start around TGS...which is sometime in September. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
I do hope they also get PSO, probably they will post their preview this week if they do...http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Did you see the latest Xbox live video??where they explained Xbox live setup and all, and they demonstrate Revolt??they showed us how to mute someone...so if you are playing with an annoying child, mute him...he won't know that you mute him either...http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
And if they room full of assholes, then get out of the room and play with someone else...voice can get annoying, but I am glad M$ include that mute feature, that will be in a really great use for some games...http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Seeing as PSO GC is delayed due to bugs, I get the feeling than the best members of Sonic Team are busy with all the sonic games to be made (or other projects)
and that PSO is only staffed with ST underlings.

It' just a hunch, take it as you want.

That given, I hardly see how Xbox PSO that will be played for the Xbox live beta in japan will be sthing else than a PC port (=v2 port).

look : GC PSO delayed to 12th september.
Xbox live beta could begin even earlier than that.

Now, don't get me wrong. I own an Xbox and of course a GC port would be sweet.
But that idea can't win over a cold and real estimation of what Sonic Team can do in a given time.
That's why I never associate in my mind the Xbox and playing PSO. at least not for this year.

It would be very funny if GameCube got V2 Port and Xbox got Ep1+2. I'd laugh my ass off though it won't happen. I'ma just keep quiet till they are both released. i want them both

Don't like talking, or hearing annoying people well there's a very simple solution!!!! It's as easy as taking off the headset, you don't even have to press the MUTE button if it annoys you too much to go and press the finger there. When you think about it, there's nothing bad about the voice feature if you just don't use it with people that annoy you O_o People are sooo incompetent these days my God. Can't you analyze? Only VOICE will come through the HEADSET the IN-GAME SOUNDS will come from your TV SPEAKERS GET IT? No one will hear how you play PSO, except what you're saying of course. If it's not an appropiate time to talk then just TAKE IT OFF GODAMMIT. There it is the solution for everything http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif I personally just can't wait to use it with my friends and the people here who are getting the Xbox version http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

As for people enjoying the GC version by then, well only one thing to say, congratulations but this doesn't have anything to do here. I too am getting it but just because it's coming before doesn't necessarilly mean it's going to be better. As there is a possibility of Xbox PSO being Ver.2 there is a possibility that it could be either a port from GC or something better http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif I'm not saying it'll be that way either, the possibility is just out there. Who says that those new lobbies in PSO GC can't be the ones already designed for Xbox. Maybe, it's a possibility. True they haven't shown almost nothing but until they do I'm still in wait and see.

BioFan
Jul 15, 2002, 03:29 PM
Well I am just speculating here...Well probably the delay could have been the reason for putting in those planned for Xbox version??And Yuji Naka wanted GC version to have what Xbox version will have??it could happen...Sure the GCN ver has some bugs, they are fixing them, but in the meantime they could add in those extras that are planned for Xbox version...
I can go way beyond the truth, but it is a possibility...I just don't see why Xbox will get just a ver.2 unless eps2 is GCN exclusive...Even if it is an exclusive, at least Xbox will get something extra, other than voice comm. Well anyway, whatever it is, I can't wait for some more news...it can be a bad news, or good news, but I am waiting...

I personally only see 1 big possible fault with voice chat, that would be the chat log. No going into your menu to check out the chat log. But being broadband, it might allow to save all of your voice conversations on the Xbox's HDD.

You realize that when you usually mail a company, all you get is some employee usually bored out of their mind getting paid to tell you the info is not available and that they have no real connection to the game industry except for a release date charts usually.
