GC: Getting online with Verizon DSL

I saw another person's question about getting online with Verizon DSL, but I have another question if anyone can help me out.

I have Verizon DSL, but it goes through my existing phone line using these little converter type things at my phone jacks. Do I still need to get a BBA to get online or will my old modem still work to get me online?
