Heh, I think I like the S/D effects more on the DC.
You need a video of you against Falz while using 60 dark mechs <_<
You'd have to go all through ruins for that, though.

That's a DB's Saber. Back then, the 9 stars looked like the normal weapon of that type, except the photon shifted between two different colors.

DB's Saber looked just like a regular saber, except the color faded back and forth between green and blue.

Its special was spirit, that's why he's doing 1000... that and the percents probably rocketed his damage http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

There still was FSOD and such, although maybe not as forced... I still prefer GC online though... since DC had turned into NOLing, PKing and the such... and when you died your weapon dropped onto the ground <_<

I can tell you. By effects, it is the way the animations of shifta and deband looks like. Like on GC, with shifta it is flashing on the character's hands. Have you watched the video? You can compare to DC and GC versions and been able to notice the difference.

Yea thats one of the few imporvements in GC pso i did like that u didtn drop ur stuff. But at least now theres are patches on the new servers for DC so there is no more BS of lobby resets,NOLs,and PKing. ANd if anyone steals ur wep u have server side saving so you can just restore it from there and save it over ur VMU.

Haha, that's what I was thinking, but I didn't want to say it.

I could only attribute his missing due to some sort of lag between what's displayed on his PC and what's happening on the Dreamcast during video capture.

However, my capture card is usually in perfect sync with my systems as I capture, so... maybe his PC is just not that powerful.

Try to do that with a 100 HUmar on GC with the same gear... Geez

Rianna_Type1
Apr 4, 2005, 11:19 AM
Well, it's an obvious given that HUmars at level 100 on the Gamecube and Dreamcast are completely different.

The statistics gained from level up, how certain stats affect damage, the change in what techniques they can use, and so forth.. they've all been modified.

I guess it was a cool video, but some people just notice a lack of prowess as far as him wielding the saber, that's all. =P

A lot of us, like myself, mastered the 3-hit combo within the first few minutes of playing the game when it came out December 2000. So seeing his level 100 Dreamcast HUmar 0wning up while totally missing enemies he's targetting, plus getting bitchslapped from time to time, it kind of looks novice-like.

My only guess is that when he took the video he was rusty or his computer display lags while capturing. Or maybe he wasn't just putting any effort, just trying to show off the numbers.. Either or!

You wanna know why I had to hit-and-run with that saber?

Because getting first hit is a bitch when you use the special.

With this video, I wanted to demonstrate that it was possible to kill a Dimenian in one shot with that saber. What does that mean? No introductory shot - my first goal was to get a special/critical on the first hit, and I managed to get it three times in a row towards the end of the vid (though for the last one I gave a shot in the air to up my hitting percentage.)

Had I gone for the usual normal-special 2 hit combo or the normal-hard-hard 3 hit combo, things would've looked a lot more elegant. But that wasn't what I was trying to do. Had I wanted to go for elegance, I'd have signed up for ballet. Those who didn't get it can get the fuck outta my Internet.

So! Since I'm not an empty-handed son of a bitch, I've shot a second, longer vid (http://alanspics1.homestead.com/files/phantasy_star_online_version_1_-_Percentage_Demonstration.wmv), this time also showing my area of expertise: the Vjaya partisan. I messed up a bit with my saber part, but I think you guys get the idea anyways.

The slaying of Dark Falz online in Very Hard mode (http://www.vengefulsoda.com/pso/Sniff_vs_Falz_1.avi). (Level 5x team)

The slaying of Olga Flow online in Normal mode (http://www.vengefulsoda.com/pso/Sniff_vs_Flow_2.avi). (Level 4x team)

Some of you should probably watch the Dark Falz video as alot of you can't seem to beat him without using 180% weapons and the like. Tsk tsk. Hehe.

Otherwise, my favorite weapons are Partisan class (Brionac and so on) as well as my Mushashi. I like daggers too!!

Something I posted in another topic, but it applies here as well...

I've noticed the DivX codec decompressor is alot slower than the latest XviD codec decompressor. In fact, you don't even need to have the DivX codec decompressor on your machine to view DivX movies, you can just use the XviD one.

I'd recommend people who have slower computers or trouble playing DivX or XviD content to uninstall all versions of XviD and DivX, with the exception of the hacked DivX 3.11 alpha codec because it's totally different, and install the latest XviD codec 1.0.3

You can obtain XviD 1.0.3 from here (http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/).

We'll call this one:

I usually use an ATI TV Wonder Pro, Multimedia Center 8.2, and MPEG-2 to VirtualDub to get my jobs done.

This time I lowered PSO's BGM volume to 0 while keeping the SFX up, then mixed in my own music with Adobe Audition 1.5, though!

The only thing you really need to pay for is the ATI TV Wonder Pro or any competent capture card.

They have a new one out, the TV Wonder Elite, I'm thinking about upgrading from my Pro to that...

The cards come with the capturing software and MPEG-2 to VirtualDub you can download off of the 'net.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention I also use VirtualDub and the XviD codec to encode the movie, of course.

If you don't want shitty video quality, you'll look at getting a first party S-video cable for your console as well. Hooking it up to a capture card via composite cable is a no-no.

Rianna_Type1

Basically it's just like I said.

You get a capture card, plug the Gamecube or console into it, launch the capture program and press record.

Import the video into your favorite editing software for cutting and anything else.

Encode the video.

Upload!

For capturing I use the TV Wonder Pro and ATI's Multimedia Center.
For editing and encoding I use VirtualDub.

There's lots of guides, I think. Try http://www.videohelp.com/

Some things to keep in mind before capture are:

Sound Card, is it a decent sound card? Are the drivers updated?

Video Card, there are 3 main options here, keep your current video card and purchase a capture card that is not part of it. Eg. TV Wonder Pro. Second is to purchase a new video card and a capture card. The third is to purchase a single unit, what ATI calls the All-In-Wonder series. These have the capture unit built into the video card. But, from personal experience, updates can be rather tricky to install as sometimes features are no longer usable or you lose some functionality of either the video card or the capture device. I would recommend either keeping your current video card and purchasing a TV Wonder type product (which can be purchased for as low as $50US), or buy a new video card as well as a capture card.

Memory
How much memory does your PC currently have? If it is less than 512MB I would strongly suggest to upgrade to at least 512MB. But make sure your PC can handle your new memory first.

Harddrives
How much storage do you have? If you plan on using the capture primarlily for still pictures, you probably don't need much space. However, if you are planning on recording video, I strongly urge to make sure you have a fair ammount of space to store those video files. Depending on the quality, videos can be as much as 5-10MB per second of video or as little as 50KB per second.

Processor
If you are using a processor lower than 1.0GHz (though I recommend at least 1.5GHz) you will likely get rather nasty lag while doing the capture (video primarily).

Website hosting
If you plan on sharing the videos/pictures, do you have a host to do so? Please keep in mind some hosts do not support video files to be hosted. Also consider your bandwidth allocation as video files will drain that extremely fast.

Usage
Will you use it on a regular basis? For me, I don't have a television in my room, so my computer does double duty as a television. If you have a large television (larger than your monitor) you will likely be tempted just to use that for normal gameplay. A capture card is a hefty investment, is it worth it for what you will use it for?

Money
Obviously, this is most important. Do you have the money for the capture card? Capture cards run between $50-150US. These are not video cards, just capture. If you want a combo card, like the All-In-Wonder, that will cost you anywhere from $100 for an old model, to $500+ for the newest (X800XL All-In-Wonder is out right now and that is the retail). Or will you buy both a capture card and a video card? That again will likely cost $200 or more.

All in all, I encourage you to think about the purchase. If you plan on doing video editing or video digitizing (moving non-digital media, such as VCR tapes, to digital on the harddrive or on DVD) this will be well worth the purchase. But if all you are purchasing it for is to show off what you did in a videogame, well, it is your money. I hope this helps those of you who are considering purchasing a capture card.

For videos I record everything on a VHS tape. If the tape runs out then I swap it for another one and I rewind the old one. Then if anything cool happens, I connect my trusty Archos Jukebox to the Video OUT of the VCR and it allows me to record anything to .AVI. Then I hook up the Jukebox to my computer and I can compress it further or host it straight from that. All-in-all, not so great a quality, but its not too bad and it's vary simple to do... plus I got the Jukebox just to listen to MP3s and watch movies so it was just a plus that it could record sound and video. I would suggest you look into getting something similar to that if you're interested in simplicity.

Anyone know of any FREE hosts that are reliable and are good for hosting small videos, approximately 30MB-60MB?
