Why do they continue to make these adaptaions of comics to live action films?
I finally got around to watching Spiderman 2 tonight and I have to say that it was only slightly better than the first one. And I found the forst Spiderman to be a very poor film. But then again, I always found Doc Ock to be a far better villan than the Green Goblin.
The only good adaptations there have been in the past 16 years have been the 1989 Batman, Van Helsing, the 2 X-Men movies and Hellboy. Even Catwoman was better than the first Spiderman, but not much. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
Punisher was a bad idea and should have been left on the drawing board. Dolph Lundgran made a better Punisher years ago.
And don't even get me started on Constantine. That was supposed to be an adaptation of Hellblazer. I don't think so. My friend saw it and was horrified as to what they did to it.
And Hulk had promise, untill they screwed the whole movie with 3/4 of it being flashbacks to an alternate universe origin.
After the dissapointment that Spiderman 1&2 gave me, I am not expecting a damned thing from the Fantastic Four film... Assuming it actually gets released.

Please stop making these bad adaptaions. I collected comics for years and am completly horrified myself as to what these people have done to all my old favorites. If they even TOUCH 'Hawk and Dove', I might just kill someone.

Appologies if this is in the wrong forum.

Edit- Thanks for the Dolph call, Deathscythalpha. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif I forgot who it was.

They make a TON of money.

Regular movie-goers, and comic book owners alike garner huge box office receipt totals.

Sure some are complete bombs, simply because we all know better(Catwoman, cough) but they are probably making a slim enough profit on those as well to be considered "successful."

For example, not comics really, but say the Matrix and its 2 sequels. They made a lot of money off of them, even if its highly debatable whether every movie in the series was great or even good. Some hate them, some love them.

Hype and post movie discussions/buzz also generate more revenue, right?

Butchering the series' probably sits well behind making profits.

What # Batman movie is this new one now? http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
Also another new Batman animated series(The Batman)?!

Someone out there is enjoying it, someone told me Electra was a great movie, http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
Just hope and pray they don't abuse their licenses too much then. That's all you can do really, besides shudder at the announcements of new comic-to-movie or videogame-to-movie releases.

Nothing is perfect(to everyone). Leave Spidey-man alone. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Punisher wasnt that bad. I went to see it not expecting much and was quite surprised. Ok, he didnt 'Punish' enough people in my opinion, but they kept quite a few scenes faithful to their comic origins (the blowtorch torture sequence). And it was Dolph Lundgren in the original Punisher film, one that many people never want to talk about again.

Constantine had the problem that no one wanted to film a movie about a Liverpudlian in London. Change where he lives and where he was born and attach Keanu too it and all the movie executives think 'MONEY!'. So if you can look past those changes (that really dont effect the film) it wasnt that bad a film. They also stuck faithful to the comics in other aspects, having him smoking pretty much non-stop! That was a brave move for a film seeing as the morals of this world are so badly against any sort of smoking in films. People are just too hung up on the change of setting still.

I didnt like Spiderman 1/2 that much either, just didnt really float my boat. Fantastic Four does look like its shaping up to be a stinker though, but I will no doubt see it anyway, hopefully I will be surprised.

Now I just want news on the 'Deadpool' movie, if they can pull that off right I will be a happy chappy.

I didn't realize anybody liked Hellboy.

Except maybe Ron Perlman. He was born for that role, after all. (Have you seen the man? He has Hellboy's face without all the makeup!)

Well. They ran out of ideas, so they dig into the comic book world and do some modification and call it a movie. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I think Invisible woman is miscasted in Fantastic Four. I mean, Invisible woman is this more quiet, withdrawn woman who wants to be invisible; not some confident blonde chick... too young, too.

I don't know, some lesser known Comics seem to make great movies. Like Sin City for example. The Comics are almost storyboards for the final film. It's been told to me that it's the most accurate adaptation of a comic to movie to date. So not all of those movies are complete crap.

I dunno. I thought both Spiderman movies were fantastic.

And I really am not a fan of the comic books, so...

Maybe it's just a disappointment to the comic fans? But wait! My brothers are total comic book nerds and loved Spiderman!

All this is is an opinion, rants on opinion = http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_nono.gif

Yeah, but that movie looks like it's gonna suck anyway. The Thing looks more like a burn-ward victim than a man made of rocks.

I dunno, I think you're just being too picky. Sure, Spider-Man is a Hollywood film, but they manage to capture the feel of the character fairly well. (Thought I don't think Tobey Maguire is a good Peter Parker...)

I've always been into comic books to some extent, though how much I'm interested changes from year to year, but I've been happy with a good amount of them.

Well I really enjoyed Constantine quite a bit, dispite what people say about mr. Reaves acting skills. (lets see you do better) And no, I had not read a Hellblazer comic prior to seeing the film. But shortly after, I did go buy a Hellblazer graphic novel. And read it front to back, and all the suplementary info about his origins his history and whatnot. Yes the character is quite different from the films, but too damn bad. If they stuck exactly to the comic plot nobody but the die hard fanboys would know (or care) about whats going on.
Why does everybody complain about the differences between film and comic continuety? Obviously you cant retell everything that happend in the comics, nobody's got the budget to go over hundreds of issues of backstory and whatnot that these characters have. So what if the Hulk in the movie was a weird mix of genetics/microbots/radiation, it seems at least slightly less silly on the screen than "argh, I've been hit with Gamma Rays...hulk smash." Why dont you people come up with your own comic characters, then try to make a movie about them that doesnt suck, huh? Or how about simply judging a movie by its own merits, and not what you think it should be.

Sin City isnt really "unknown" in a sense. If your into comics you know about Sin City. And it was well liked when it came out(98?). Thing is movies are usually made to be blockbuster type dealies. With sin city, someone realized that cool, smart, violent movies can make money too (ala Pulp Fiction, ect).

When u make a lot of anything, some are gonna be better than others (low end: daredevil, catwoman, high end: 1st batman, x-men, spiderman). Only now, are these kinda movies are trying to preserve the originality of the source, instead of throwing some crap together (ala old videogame based movies).

I dunno. I think Tobey Maguire did a pretty good job on Parker. Feels truely pathetic when he has to be. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Agreed. It is partly due to extra long close ups of his face after a reaction to Mary Jane saying she wasn't into 'guys like him.' http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif His face get all teary eyed. Also see that part where he's more aggressive and tell her he 'changed.'

They even covered more of a real life thing, that I haven't seen in the comics(probably is there though), about Peter Parker being late to his classes from web slinging at night(and not sleeping a wink.)

Its sad some people think Tobey Maguire plays Frodo. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif They are two completely different people. Although they do have the same kind of roles with extra long close ups of getting teary eyed in dramatic points in their movies, they aren't the same person.
