View Full Version : Sitka's Guide to Weapons Worth Hunting

Sitka
Apr 22, 2005, 06:10 PM
Using what Dhylec contributed and combining statistics/information/personal experience, I've come up with my own list of what's worth hunting. Obviously this is very subjective and there will always be considerable diffences between individuals on what they consider worth hunting and such.

If you want to add your ideas or suggest items that might be missing from this list, please do. It is not meant to be the end-all of all lists. It is certainly one idea of stuff that I have found useful or might be useful if I had or thought might be useful.

I hope the other thread dies, quite honestly, and apologize for initiating a well meant, but abortive idea.

Your positive/constructive thoughts and ideas are welcome. Please leave the negative/flame baiting attacks somewhere else. Thank you.

*Multiple-enemy hit weapons.
**Unreduced Specials (thanks Kef).
So there it is - my list. I hope it will help others, particularly others that have never used many of these weapons, a better idea on relative worth and refine their time spent on PSO. Feel free to point out areas that need to be updated or corrected - this is my first stab at such a thing. And as I've said before, there will no doubt be differences in opinion, but please approach this concept in a positive way.

The way I might use this list would be to check a high value item that I am interested in and then look at Tycho's Guide to determine how much time might be spent obtaining the item. It might also give those who trade a better idea on what relative value or usefulness might be for certain items.

Couple of weapons shouldn't be in there.

Heaven Punisher for example. Yasminkov 7000V too. It may be powerful. But the lack of rifle range kills it.

They're probablly other weapons, but I'm not going to look through it all now...

Something important you left out, Sitka, whether specials get reduced or not, this certainly changes things, I assure you >.>

I know you're right Kef, but I'm not real familiar with the reduced special concept. If you'd be so kind as to point out how that works and which weapons can be affected by it, I'll make adjustments to the list.

As for the Yas 7000V and the Heaven's Punisher, I really like the Yas 7000V in some situations. I agree with the Heaven's Punisher though. A friend gave me his and I've never liked using it. It just seems like a weapon that rare should be on the list - but you're probably right.

There is one more weapon I need to test and I can say I have tested all weapons in the game x_x;
It's the Flight Cutter, I do not have one, I need to know if the Devil's is reduced, if anyone that has online on GC and a FLight Cutter would lend it to me ;x

Here are the weapons with unreduced specials:
All 30 S-Rank weapons

Red Dagger (Soul)

Chain Sawd (Gush)

Chameleon Scythe (Geist)

Sange & Yasha (Gush)

Flight Fan (Lord's)

Guld Milla (Gush)

Red Sword (Seize)

Sealed J-Sword (Hell)

Crazy Tune (Havoc)

Huge Battle Fan (Havoc)

Red Partisan (Freeze)

Meteor Cudgel (Blizzard)

G-Assassin's Sabers (Seize)

Rainbow Baton (Chaos)

Burning Visit (Havoc)

Iron Faust (Havoc)

Gi Gue Bazooka (Seize)

Spread Needle (Seize)

Red Mechgun (Havoc)

Samba Maracas (Havoc)

Black King Bar (Devil's)

Imperial Pick (Devil's)

Demolition Comet (Devil's)

Any other Dagger, Paired Sword, Double Saber, Mechgun, Shot, Sword, Partisan, Slicer that is not on the list has a reduced special, which may make it next to useless (this applies to non-rare weapons, obviously).

Also, quick note to add, as it seems (unless I misread) that Sitka also would like to know what a reduced special means.

Basically, the special is split in effectiveness amongst the number of hits additional to a normal 1-1-1 combo that hits a single target.

I'm not too familiar with exactly how certain specials split, or how they split depending on the weapon... but let's say you're using a Gush Edge, which has a 2-2-2 combo. Basically, each successful hit of the special would only recover 50% compared to, say, a Gush Gladius.

Mechguns are 1/3rd, Slicers... 1/4th? Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, which I sure I am... but hopefully Sitka will understand it more.

Sorry for being off topic... not my intent to branch this thread off into a "Reduced/Unreduced Specials" thread, so just a quick clarification will do, then we can carry on with the normal thread.

One thing I don;t understand is why, if something doesn;t meant some pointless standard, it is automatically classified as "useless" when it still does what it's supposed to?

Crush Bullet works. Useless? No.

Also, what about ID cards, Flowen's/DB's Swords?
You also don't have Musashi, which is very worth it's rarity.
No Double Saber? It's a good Melee FO weapon.
Soul eater may not be "hunted" but it is still effort to obtain. It is far from worthless.
FO usable Agitos? Not worthless to a collector.
Also Keep in mind that S-rank weapons are invlid, or should also have Offline Only counter parts, due to many players not having Online capabilities.

This "guide" is more like "This is what Sitka is willing to put effort into hunting for" rather than a usefull guide. And if you're going to add others' imput, then you're just going to have the item database repeated in this one topic.

I agree with this. For all the people looking for it, that Yas 7K isn't a great weapon at all.

I think spread needle should be higher.

It's one of the best multi hit weapons in the game and not too hard to get.

Crush Bullet works. Useless? No.No, no, I agree Skorp, I said "sometimes" or meant to if I didn't. Crush Bullet and Meteor Smash are good examples of weapons with reduced specials that are still useful.

But some literally useless. Here is a quick example: a monster has 70 ESP, you can paralyse it with Arrest, with, let's say, Ano Rifle. Now imagine you have an Arrest Ripper, you will never be able to paralyse this monster with this weapon, 70 ESP is enough to be immune to reduced Arrest.

Was I clear ? http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Nice work Sitka (and anyone that contributed http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif ), this'll be handy to newer players.

Kef, thanks for pointing out which weapons aren't reduced. I was shocked at the Red Sword's Seize being unreduced, even on lower difficulties it never seems to work :S On Ultimate, no hope for it. Looking at this, I could do with using my Red Dagger a little more, I didnt know that was unreduced http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

Oh, also, you should add Rabbit Wand to the list. I like that weapon a lot, for low level Forces, and it is pretty usefull since it boosts MST by 45 and only requires less than 300 MST to equip.

Fair enough, I guess it was just unlucky it wasn't working then. I'm guessing that any weapon that hits a single enemy 3 times (saber, katana, handgun etc have unreduced specials then?) If that's the case, I understand it, more hits, more reduction on special?

Yeah, that's it. Shots, mechs and slicers are reduced to 1/3 from what I remember, all the other weapons Kef listed are 1/2.

Actually, this would be an example of flamebaiting. Waiting 2 days to not only revive a topic that served its purpose, but doing so to attack another user for something that doesn't even exist.

I spent a lot of time the past few days leveling up with three new characters: a humar, a hunewearl and a ramar.

In doing so, I tried to play with weapons that would allow me to rapidly get through areas and experimented with a number of weapons increasing in rarity as I was able to level up and equip them. I also played some MA with these three for the exp.

As I played through several hours of leveling with these three characters, I kept returning to one weapon in my arsenal as the best weapon to rapidly level with: the red slicer.

Mine has only 0/15/0/0 stats, but was very successful for me throughout the leveling process. I'm sure others will have ideas about weapons they really love to level up with, but I have to put Red Slicer on my list of weapons that are really worth hunting for. True, the special is bleh, but the ability to clear areas worked well for me.

Kef, you're right, slicers are very nice indeed.

ummm, did I just see Belra Caanon in there? that weapon is utterly useless in any situation, you'd be better of with a Gi-gue's bazooka that that POS.

Also, although the range on yas7k isn't that great, it's good for when you are to lazy to direct your attack like the Yas9k's or 3k's require you to do, 7k is continually changing targets (for the most part) which is kind of good depending on the situation.

If you'll notice, Sitka listed almost every weapon and its stats, so of course you'll probably see the Belra Cannon there.

I saw that, but the weapon iteself is a POS, it's ATP is irrelevant because it can only combo once and hit 1 enemy, you're better off using a Arms heavy X3 combo than that weapon, and it's piercing range is so fucking ridiculous it isn't even funny, add in the fact that it does less dmg when u use the special it makes the weapon even more pointless as to search for it.

I don't know about being pointless, I find that the Belra Cannon can be pretty fun to use sometimes. It is all just a matter of style.

yes, for non-serious businiess like Forest/caves, it's a "good" weapon, but for anywhere else, it sucks big time, it's not something you can use seriously and isn't even worth looking for if you intend to use it for that.

First of all, good guide Sitka. As someone said above, it will serve useful for new players looking for a start at the all the "uber" weapons.

As for a wep I believe you should add to the list, I think Rainbow Baton really is underrated and is easily one of my most used weapons. If you love Red Slicer, the Baton is right up the alley for you and this list. It's definently worth considering.

As for the flaming issue above, anytime you remark badly about or insult someone or something you are obviously fitting the bill for flaming.

I am not starting an argument really, just supporting my statement that the BC is pure crap... and Rainbow Baton is a good weapon, although I barely use it because i'm a Ra, it's good on my Fomar and Hune.

-Hey Kef, if you are still wondering if the Flight Cutter is a useful weapon or not, I have to say that it is pretty useless. ("To me anyway") I found one when I killed an Indi Belra on Temple with my Redria or Skyly characters. The Red Slicer and the Rainbow Baton has that cutter beaten anyday of the week, but if I'm wrong, someone can feel free to correct me. I just don't use that weapon at all.

-And on another side note, I'm in pursuit of a Meteor Crudgel (excuse my spelling) and I'm not sure if that weapon is worth getting or not. Can someone give me their opinion if it's not too much trouble? Thanks in advance!

The Meteor Cudgel certainly is worth getting. Not only does it look cool, it does a good amount of damage, too.

I just noticed something reading through, just a typo http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif It's 'Rika's Claw', not 'Rica's'

Great idea this though, I'll certainly use it as a quick reference when I need to.

Thanks for the tips - some changes made.

Notice that Rainbow Baton is one of my highest ranked weapons. I have one with 40% hit and it is a wonderful weapon indeed.

Meteor Cudgel - particularly one with hit - is well worth the hunt, imho. I have one with hit and I enjoy using it, although it takes a back seat to Sange & Yasha http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif and the Black King Bar http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif for me.

Not having used a Belra Cannon, I was using stats and not personal exp. on that wep. Recommendations duly noted - thanks.

Bringer's Rifle is RA/FO

And having a weapon with hit shouldn't influence your opinion of a weapon. Did you know that if I had a Musashi with 70 hit, it would be far better than S-Rank SWORDS?

Speaking of Musashi, what makes it not a good hunt? WHy is it not on this list?

Skorpius,

I know you love Musashi and I agree it is a very good and very useful weapon. It's well worth getting for a character leveling up, but once you get to a higher level, the stats don't compare as favorably as many of the other weapons available.

The special on Musashi (beserk) is great and with high hit, would be a very good weapon - agreed.

A Musashi gives +350 to ATP and +35 to ATA and can be grinded to +40 compared to Sange & Yasha (+650 ATP/+50 ATA/+9) or (Asuka (+570 ATP/+40 ATA/+30).

A fully grinded pair of S-rank Swords gives +680ATP/+45 ATA and an unreduced special of your choice - that gives it a significant edge over Musashi in my book. Even Yamato has better stats (+390ATP/+40ATA/+60 grind), but the special (blizzard) is not at good as Musashi's.

So, I would probably rank the Musashi around 4th or 5th for paired swords. Definitely worth hunting, but as you said, my list is too long already. If I've calculated something wrong, I apologize and stand ready to be corrected.

To tell ye's the truth, I don't know what's the best stuff to hunt for. Since I only ever had DC PSO. I spent most of my time online looking for lV15 skills and collecting rare weapons and selling them.

Sitka's post has been turned into a guide and is being removed from the sticky list. The guide can be found here:

Thanks Ryna.

Just a note to everyone, those were my subjective thoughts following a few years of playing dc/gc and mostly xbox, so take them for what they're worth. As Skorpius says, there are many different views on that topic - those were just mine.

Now that I've been able to experience a bit of Blue Burst, there are many things to add to that list and Tycho has done a great job in her subjective comments on her lists:
