Sounds like either bad RAM or your CPU overheating.

AMD Athlon 2000+

1.69 Ghz 256 RAM

Radeon FSC

I think now that I am looking at it its a simple RAM problem

If you think you have some bad RAM, I would suggest trying out the following program:

http://www.memtest86.com/

It is a comprehensive RAM testing program that has helped me troubleshoot some bad RAM sticks in the past.

Right now, I am thinking of a few possibilities...

1. Faulty RAM (are you recieving Memory errors such as Physical Memory Dump?)
2. Faulty motherboard (not my top conclusion, but it could be possible as data might not be sent to a specific area when it is needed)
3. Faulty Power Supply - this is the best conclusion I can think of at the moment. The PS could have a bad fan where, in that case, the entire Power Supply would have to be replaced (around $30 for a good one and it's very easy to replace).

However, I am curious...is there anything else that is running (a TV, game system, etc)? Are there other computers that being turned on while yours is on (causing a brown-out)?

Another thing to check for is your resistor. It can only withstand so much wattage (or voltage. I don't know which units to use http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif ).

My computer is the only thing running.

I will have to do the RAM check thing later thank you though.

faulty motherboard....Could be but then wouldnt there be other signs of that?

The only thing wrong is when it plays a gmae such as counter strike well the big games atleast.

Like I said, the motherboard wasn't the best conclusion I thought of http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

I would recomend checking the power supply just incase. See if the fan is moving or not. If it isn't, you can go buy one or contact the company (assuming its from Dell or Gateway)

that really sounds to me like bad ram or a virus of somesort that erased a file or spyware slowing down ur PC, if its that I'd try adaware and norton(or some other antivirus software). but most likely its bad ram but the only thing that draws me away from that would be that there usually are other signs with that such as the OS not loading and such, so my other thought on RAM would be that you don't have the recommended amount of RAM cuz sometimes beleive it or not the minimum required amount is not enough.

Does your graphics board have a fan on it? Is it receiving adequate ventilation? Are all the fans on your system working?

Your computer may turn off if it gets to be too warm.

90% sure its a ram issue. Normally when a video card is inadequate, it just dumps the game, instead of restarting the system.

The last computer I worked on which had a ram issue had a system monitor on that would randomly turn off the computer, but not because it was getting too hot, it just traced into the bad sectors of the ram. Removed the program, ran diagnostics on all the rest of the hardware, and its fine now.

Another computer, always crashed when loading RO, but always atrandom times, not just on start up. Told the customer he should get a new stick of ram, but he said he'd wait. Started happening more and more frequently, and he came back and bought the ram. All was well.

You can get a 512mb stick for almost dirt cheap now too, its a good time to have ram issues.http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif
