View Full Version : Blue Burst - Best PC control method??

GUN

Having formerly only played PSO on DC & GC, has anyone got any tips on the best Keyboard/mouse set up for Blue Burst - It's just that after using a control pad for so long on PSO it seems really hard to line up Boomers etc with the mouse.

Any thoughts ideas gratefully accepted http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif.

from my experiences with the first PC PSO demo i'd say you best set the controls lefthanded and the actions righthanded.
so... asdw for directions, jkli for actions
or direction-keys for directions and numkeypad for actions.

overall this is a thing you'll get used to with playing, even if you play mirrored to this layout.

but if you think you'll play this game longer than a week or so, you better invest into a modern PC pad (with PS2'esque layout maybe) or a console-controller-PC adapter.

for example this one if you like the xbox controller:

Thanks Rena, good ol'e Lik-Sang, i've orderred quite a bit from them recently so i'll give them a spin.

I think your right, a control pad seems to be the best option for this type of game.

You can't click and drag the mouse to walk/run on BB?

Well you can, but I just don't find it that easy to target. However I geuss its just down to practice http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

good question.
well, when i played ragnarok online, i really started to hate mousecontrolled actiongames. i dunno if thats the same with you tho *laughs*

maybe actual BB players might have a good suggestion on this matter.

I personally hated the keyboard controls, so I resorted to using an old PC pad I had lying around. No analog sticks or anything, but it works fine, and will do until I get a USB-PS2 converter. When I did use keyboard control, I had the arrow keys set as movement, w,a,s,d as my action pallet, and a key near wasd to centre the camera (like q). It worked ok,but locking-on to enemies was a bit difficult, so Id recommend a gamepad.

Its not that bad. f for my camera, q and e for walk/run

I use a logitech dual action rumble pad... it's basically just like playing the game with a Playstation 2 controller and works pretty well http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

The keyboard control's pro is that breaking out of frozen status has never been easier http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Mouse with practise can be very easy to use (i use mouse all the time) But breaking out of ice might be harder with mouse so use keyboard to break out.

I use default Keyboard settings. I haven't had a problem yet.

I used something almost identical to default layout three for a good 7 months.

Then I bought a controller. Saitek P880.

I always found the DC control scheme when I tried using it annoying and difficult for the left action button, and MUCH prefer the GC's diagonal button strip. Can't imagine using a PSX/PS2 or similar controller for it, might as well use the keyboard, I hate it so... XP So the P880's six face buttons(Kind of like the Xbox, I guess - two rows of three diagonally) when set up correctly plays almost exactly like GC for me.

I'd have tried a GC to PC adapter, but I've heard bad things about them so I just went out and bought a standard PC controller. Haven't had any trouble with it.

I really want a Puyo Pop Fever Sega Genesis controller. O_o The controls look perfect for PSO to me. A control on one side, 3 attacks on the other, and 3 above that. X.x

Of coures, I'd also love the Puyo Pop Fever PC game... Too bad it's only in Japan.

Yea I might get me a gamepad soon. I configed my keys to match what I used in FFXI, however some functions I can't mimic from the FFXI scheme.

Actually, that's a Sega Saturn Controller, not a genesis, because if you remeber, regular genesis controllers didn't come with shoulder buttons... that and it looks the exact same as my black SS controller.

No - The genesis did have one made by Sega that was the similar design as the saturn, however it was skinnier. The shoulder buttons however served no purpose, unlike the saturn but they were there.

I'm using a generic controller modelled after the PS2, only with 2 more triggers -- one on each sideunder the others. It's a very nifty controller.

I got a logitec pad for it too. They run from 15 to 20 dollars depending on where you find it. 20 bucks at Gamestop (where I got mine)

It has 2 analog sticks and a button set up like a PS2 pad with rumble features as well.

Radio Shack sells a PSX convertor... for like 10.99. It works pretty decent though it doesnt recognize the analog joysitcks for me. R3 and L3, I haven't checked either...

Only detects it as a digital joystick with 10 buttons.

An atari Jaguar controller would be best tho. 12 buttons on it I think.

I take it from these comments that none of you have ever actually looked at PSOBB's pad config... XP

Mystil

Uhm all you do is go into the pad config menu. Anyway..

Mines setup like the GC's.

Can only use one button for the camera but its no biggy.

Keep in mind this game was originally designed to be played with a control pad, and having tried both a pad and a keyboard to play I have to say the pad wins hands down (har har, I'm so punny).

You don't need anything fancy - I picked up a cheapish own-brand PS2 controller from GAME (EB in America I think) and the own-brand PS2 to USB converter, it came to less than £20 http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Just get a Logitech PS2-esque controller and be done with it. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Right now I'm using ESDF for movement and up/left/right/down for my weapon moves and traps. I know a lot of people prefer WASD, but I think my setup is slightly better because it doesn't force me to move my hands from the "home" position, where the ridged keys (F and J) are. Switching from chat to movement is less cumbersome as a result.

I must say, movement is still pretty cumbersome. I have yet to get the hang of rotating my character to target to enemies. Is there a better way than tapping S, tapping the Camera key, and tapping S again? If I hold or spam S (turn left), I stop turning and start running. It's a problem. Do you think turning would be very much easier if I used a controller with thumbsticks?

ian, if at all possible, could you PLEASE detail how you set up your saitek? i bought a 2500 (i think that's what it is), i'm thinking it's pretty similar to yours... but since i'm such a pc retard, i can't figure out how to set it up like the gc controller. in fact, i can't even figure out how to type while it's plugged in. oh, yes, i am just that backwards when it comes to stuff like that.

This controller can be purchased from play-asia.com.

Not in the white and orange colors though.

Since I think that this and the Genesis controller was one of the best for certain types of games such as Madden Football and other sports games(I play a three fingers on the right hand tecnique with this type of controller), I have placed an order for one in basic black.

Pricing is not too bad with the basic colors running 39.90. The "pretty colors" blue and pink are running 49.90.
