My computer's specs:
Compaq Presario 6000
AMD Athlon XP 1600+ @ 1.4 GHz
384 MB/RAM
Two 20GB HDD
GeForce FX 5200 w/ 128MB Video RAM
Windows XP Professional SP 2

I don't understand why my game slows down. I keep it at 800x600 res w/ 16-bit color and my graphics setting at normal. It shouldn't slow down at all. I more then meet the requirements. So, I don't understand. Is it something else on my computer? Should I try running some optimizers? Help me out.

Thanks,
~Matt

Do you have any spyware/viruses on your machine?
What other programs do you have running while playing BB?
Have you tried turning down the graphics settings?

No Spyware/Virus
I kill every single thing when running the game, except rhe bare essentails. Disable virus scanners and everything.
The graphic's setting's are custom, everything down but frame skip 0, with 800x600 resolution. If I turn it to 640x480 it runs fine but there is no reason it should have to be turned down THAT low when the graphic's are below normal.

Do you have the latest versions of DirectX and the Nvidia drivers installed?

I would expect the game to be able to run with "Normal" settings on your particular system.

The only other things that I recommend you could would be to defragment your hard drive, take a look at your video card settings to make sure they are optimized for your particular system, and run some video benchmarks.

Oh yes, it might help if you elaborate on what you mean by "my game slows down".

When I walk around in the lobby it'll sometimes "lag" but its not internet lag, its hardware.

Also, certain bosses kill my system. Noteably De Rol Lee. The entire battle was really slow.

Random frame rate drops sometimes occur during regular gameplay but it doesnt happen too often.

That might be your answer right there. The FX5200 cards are the black sheep of the 5000 GeForce line...meaning they stink badly in most situations despite how 128 megs of RAM might make one think. In short, the card is badly bottlenecked compared to say, the 5500 or the 5700. If you can spare some money, buy a 5700 Ultra or something and I'm sure you'll see improvements.

Just as a little info, I have a GeForce FX 5200 as well (it came with my computer) and it runs Morrowind like a dog most of the time, while a friend with a lesser computer than mine in all respects, but a 5700 card, can run Morrowind with no hiccups at all. Also, I've noticed that with some games, the 5200 likes to lag the higher you put the resolution in-game...so that might explain your slow-downs at 800x600.

Do yourself a favor and buy a new card from newegg.com or something. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Interesting, I didnt know that. I'll have to suffer 640x480 resolution for now then :-

that sucks if thats the case...only thing really different about your system and mine is that my card is worse than yours, but i have 768 megs of ram. i was noticing slow down too and i was wondering why and when i rechecked the system specs at the psobb website i noticed that my directx files were way out of date. i had direct X9.0a and the game needs 9.0b. so i went and got the latest which was 9.0c, now it runs fine.
and i have my monitor at 1024 x 768 and i run the game in window mode at 1024 x 768 as well just for the record.

on a side note, i went to play GC pso today and it looked like crap lol, i guess i spoiled myself with BB X.x
