Hey all--

I'm pleased to announce that starting just after midnight tonight, we will be launching the AOL Cup. This event is a version of the Maximum Attack quest from PSO of old. Everyone who plays can win in-game items, so make sure to check it out. And we have a special prize for the top team in the Cup. Smile

In order to prepare for the quest, the servers will be offline from 9pm -- 12am (PST). We appreciate your patience and understanding! We think you'll dig this quest.

After this the update you'll also be able to play in Hard mode!

Have fun and see you on Ragol...

Your friends at Sega.

ps -- look for more details on the site later tonight

There's a special AOL CD item plus a free year of AOL service for the person who lags out and disconnects the most. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif XP

But seriously. AOL? WTF?

Team points will be nice to have. Soon the team icons will begin to swarm. And that shall make things very interresting. And... anyone else looking forward to all the DB Sabers, Flowen's Swords, and Varistas? http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Well, looks like the servers are down now. It's kinda funny, cuz I was just in the Ruins with some friends, and we were talking about how I got booted off in the middle of a quest. Right when we thought it wasn't gonna happened, we got logged off.

Hard mode being active soon? That's great news, but I'm only on LV26. They've made access to Hard Mode at LV 40+ now, boy do I hate being weak!

I'm almost 100% sure if you got disconnected during a quest, you've lost all progress in it. Just so you know.

I got disconnected when they downed the server for the ISP move and got slightly rolled back because I didn't sign off.

They did give pretty good warning about the downtime, though. So you really can't blame them if you lost anything during that time.

I'm glad we'll be able to start finding some common rares, though. That will be awesome.

While yeah, they did give fair warning, it shouldn't have been too difficult to give a nice "10 minute" remainder, or something like that built into the game... there'll be a time when a maintanence comes up that may have been announced in the boards, but who knows, maybe were online all day or something. There's a good number of positives to an in-game warning, and no real negatives. Oh well http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Nice to see some stuff being added. Anyone remember if there was a similar kind of quest to this AOL Cup released on the JP BB around this time frame, and if the prizes were anything unusual?

Nice as far as Hard mode as well... Teams will be able to actually get points consistently now.

Oh geez, they're 2 minutes late. Woe is you...

Seriously, chill out.

For the most part, often times when online games give maintenance windows, sometimes it can take a little longer than normal.

I always try to connect an hour or two after the scheduled re-opening time. For two reasons, really. One, the maintenance extending longer than normal, and two, possible login server jammage. (Heck if it's usually this late, I'll wait until the next day to play, which is what I'm going to do with PSOBB.. I'm sleepy!)

Let them take as long as they want to get the game back up. Just go find something else to do while you wait. It really isn't that hard.

Well its midnight, and I have to go to sleep soon. I would like to get some playing in before that.

When you give times, you should always figure for possible delays, and if you get done earlier, it wont hurt anyone. Not following said times is simply unprofessional. The only time I would ever delay something for a mod, which I had given a release date for already, would be something major, and I would post as to why, before the planned release time.

You have to realize that the hours given are not set in stone. They are an estimate of time they think it will take, considering all goes as planed. Something must of happened to delay this, or they made a bad estimation, so they are going longer than the time they gave to us. Rember, even IF they are proffesionals, they are still human, and can only do so much. Be patient, it will come back up.

I think ST's been on time with the maintences exactly once, and I'm pretty sure that was an accident since there was an emergency maint the next day. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

...Alright, it's not that bad, but from experience, they end the maints later rather than sooner, and usually after the stated time.

Go boot up the Gamecube and play PSO there while you wait in the future. Even if a maint hits while you're on, you can just move to the JP or EU servers. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif (Or US if you regularily play on the JP or EU ones) Or hell, who the heck's gonna boot you off offline? Your mom? XP

And I agree with Kef, I'd much rather have Ep2 than Hard. XP

And Jesus. Isn't this covered somewhere? -_-;;; It's been well-known for MONTHS that you only have to re-do the government quests if you have a need to do areas past Forest in Solo mode. -_- Yes, when you get to Ult, Ruins will be unlocked in the normal game mode. *headdesk* No more of this inexcusable ignorance(You couldn't read the JP BB threads? Not much has changed, you know), please. Much more of it and I'll end up shooting my monitor.

Then again, they did go to the trouble of taking out Word Select. XP

Also, that play guide has never been updated that I know of. Even on the JP version. >_>; So independent confirmation(i.e., someone still under 30 who's got all the quests cleared) for the level req would be nice.

And heh. No maint countdown? Amusing. There usually was one. *snort*

Then 200 kills has something about your enemies being warned by AOL.
300 kills has something about them not adding you to their buddy list...

And... they should just come out and claim Pioneer 2 is run completely by AOL with the number of advertisements they have plastered all over the place http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Oh well, it's an excellent quest for EXP and drops (be careful for the rooms with 4 garanz at a time XD there's a few of them).

I haven't really played much of the other MA type quests to compare, but this quest is really, really good for EXP and drops.... also, what were the Bronze Weapon Badge and Silver Weapon Badge used for, if anything before?

Weapon Masters are also mentioned >_>

Saffran
May 21, 2005, 06:21 AM
This should be written in the MA quest page of the site, or at least in the BB thread about that quest:

3 bronze badges -> 1 Silver Badge
3 Silver Badges -> 1 Gold badge
3 Gold badges -> 1 Bronze Shield
another 3 Gold Badges and Bronze Shield on you -> Silver Shield
another 3 Gold badges and Silver Shield on you -> Gold Shield
another 3 Gold badges and Gold Shield on you -> Photon drop

GyroidFanatic

It appears that they unlocked Sunset by Secret Base too (now Sunset Base) in solo mode. After 100 million kills, something's going to happen in Ruins 1 from what I can gather.

Saffran
May 21, 2005, 10:06 AM
They suck.

The hidden items are to be discovered in the MA quest (I vaguely remember something about them not appearing in Normal mode, but otoh, I've never verified this), and the shields and PDs are gotten in Ruins 1 at the waterfall within the Secret by sunset base quest. Just accumulate the Gold Badges until then.

Yay, fanboys.

Look, I've been with gaming for years, and by that I mean mods for games. I've had plenty of time to learn about this stuff, from both personal experience, and observation. One of the biggest rules about not looking unprofessional is to not give times, unless you can get it out at those times. If you aren't sure, dont give a time. If you really have to give a time, choose how long you think it will take, and add a half-hour, or an hour to it. That way, if it happens in time, its early. If it is late, then they have a time to figure out whats taking longer than expected, time to write why its taking longer, and when it hits the said time, they can post and say why its taking longer. When you take longer, and there is nothing said as to why, its unprofessional.

RicoRoyal

Damn it, I knew I should have put a </sarcasm> tag on that statement of mine (I figured the rolling eye smiley would have been enough). Sonic Team IS unprofessional. Tis what I meant. Sorry about the confusion. In anycase, if you plan on playing PSO, I suggest you get used to things like this. Really, it's nothing special, and as such, it is nothing to get worked up about (unless you enjoy dying of a stroke).

Like Watashiwa said, "chill out."

Ryna

I would suggest everyone have a look at this webpage:
http://www.psobb.com/community/quests/aolcup/index.html

The current kill count is about 500k.

Here are the rewards:
At 20 million points
All participants will get "Mag Cell 213."

At 40 million points
All participants will get the "Toy Hammer."

At 60 million points
The participants’ drop percentage will be doubled!

At 80 million points
All participants will get the "Crazy Tune."

At 100 million points
All participants’ drop percentage will be multiplied by 5!!

SPECIAL TEAM PRIZE!

The team that gets the most kills will get a special bonus—a wallpaper made up of you! That’s right—we’ll take your characters’ images and make them into a spiffy wallpaper. It’ll be up on the site for the world to see and download. Neat!

While reading the psobb.com forums, I saw you could get the 502 Mag Cell from the Sunset Base quest. Here is the walkthrough:

You have to play the Sunset Base quest on Hard in Solo Mode to be able to get the mag cel.

You win 5 Luck mats at 15000 kills, most likely.

The most you can achieve solo is 500, but I dunno if you have characters that can handle it.

You don't lose the Gold Shield. Each 3 gold badges after that will grant ou a PD.
