Mag: Does it matter what food I feed my mag...?

If I'm going for a certain rare mag, does it matter what food I feed the mag as long as the stats are correct at the key points?

Specifically, the Nidra guide (http://www.pso-world.com/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=1300) says that at a certain point I should alternate between Monomates and Sol Atomizers until POW is 49. Could I safely cut out Sol Atomizers and only feed it Monos since they both raise power? Sols are faster growth but are a pain to get.

Those guides just tell you the fastest way to raise said mag, however you get your mag to the required stats at 100 doesn't matter.

It does not matter what you feed the mag as long as all the stats are correct.

I think it tells you to use Monomates because Sol Atomizers raise Defense as well as Power. If you feed it only Sol Atomizers, you'll start getting levels of Defense, and that will throw a wrench in the works. You'd have to look up the conditions for the Nidra evolution and readjust your other stats to account for the extra Defense.

For Kaitabha and Bhirava (my Mag), Monomates raise Power and lower Defense. By using Monomates whenever the Defense bar creeps too high, you can prevent wasted levels.
