My friend and I are having trouble finding early PSO production vids and pics. I'm researching something about it. Was hoping to find the first pics and vids of the DC ver. before it was released.

Ah! That one... really good PSO Fansite use to have a lot of the old Character sketches... but I can't remember the name of the site to save my life http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

That's ok. ; ; Just hoping someone else will be able to lend a hand, though there's a slim chance. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

(and trust me I tried, there isn't a 640x480 version anywhere except in SEGA's back room somewhere on film still.)

Wow, good work you two! Still, it's not quite what I'm looking for, although it did pike some interest in other things relating to earlier production.

I think what I'm looking for is an old teaser trailer that came out before that. Don't think there was a voice in it, but I could be wrong.

Oh, hey, that video is somewhere on a disc I have laying around... let me try to find it. It's just the video and no other things around it.

It's pretty cool, really.

The Official Dreamcast Magazine Jan 2001 Vol.10 Demo disc has phantasy star online movie on it.

Wow! Grass Assassins and Hildebears in the same room, in F1! PINCH ME! Only joking. Why is it that it looks INCREDIBLY different to what was DC PSO? look at the speech bubbles...

I can understand why different monsters would appear in forest for an e3 viewing, but why does p2 and forest look so different? I had the dreamcast version and I remember it being the exact same scenery as my cube version.. I think i'm missing something

These shots are early PSO production. You know, stuff they were playing around with before the actual game was pressed.

It's quite possible the Forest and Pioneer 2 look you see in the pictures were something they were playing around with before they modified it a bit more and came up with what you know as the Forest and Pioneer 2 of today.

Same thing goes for the speech bubbles..

I like the forward stab the HUmar did with that saber, and I also like how you could actually push stuff http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

I thought some of the older attacking animations were better myself. Maybe not better, just cool to see. =P

Evil Sharks in Forest 1, oh shit!

Well well, where to start in response...

Those indeed are early prod. types. I personally like the slightly more rounded look of the characters and different look of P2. The Grass Assassins really should have stayed in Forest, rather than Caves. I was severely disappointed when I played it on the DC debut after watching the early vids... I mean, think of the past PS's! They were always outside.

Also, I don't think the vid from the DCM disc is what I'm looking for either. It's a vid I saw before that which was on the net. It showed shots from those pics shown earlier in this thread, kinda like a first-person view roaming through Forest. Also, it looked a bit more ancient in the making. Think it had some words flying by on some parts, but this should have been the very first teaser of it, ever. Hope that helps. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

Edit:

About the pushing stuff feature, I look forward to that in PSU. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

You know, just as these videos showed PSO before the final disc was pressed, PSU has quite some time before it's released as well.

There could be alot of changes done to PSU in the final version, like animations and gameplay, compared to the early videos we've seen of the game.

I realize PSU is going a bit off topic, but I'm just saying... some people who may think PSU looks boring or looks weird, etc,. just realize there's still a lot of time left for development on PSU.. could be some big changes!

Anyway, I forgot to thank Jonathan for posting that vid. Thanks!!

i actually have a PSO artbook with a ton of concept work for characters, worlds, and enemies/bosses. runs about 30-40 bucks. japanese bookstores or perhaps ebay is a good place to look if you want one.

Hmm, could maybe swipe one while I'm in Tokyo. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif If I can scrounge the money...

Watashiwa, I really love what's already being brought back to, and added to, PSU. The Motavian change is slightly unsettling, but then again, who wants overgrown Furbies? http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif Oh, I just used a blue face after talking about Motavians. >.> Anyway, Dezorians and Motavians were something I really hoped for while waiting for PSO, but we DO get one of them in PSU. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif So, do look up to great possibilities in PSU, everyguys! http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I hope PSU turns out to be what PSO should have been.
There were so much stuff left out in PSO(Dreamcast) that were supposed to be in there. But that happens in all games.

I still love PSO(DC)though. It is still highly underrated. Like the Dreamcast.

Anyways on topic, you should cop that book. There were supposed to be more races if I recall. I think one was a huge elf/ogre type. But I think it was cancelled because of the Hucast. I also believe that mags were supposed to do so much more. Also vehicles..Pretty much everything new in PSU, were originally for PSO. Atleast that's how I remember it.

PSO was the groundbreaker/starter of console MMOs. Keep in mind, they had to start somewhere. But look at what good has come from it? Word Select, Simple Chat (FFXI), Final Fantasy XI Online, and of course PSU!

I wonder if the race you're thinking of resembled the Motavians from PSU in any way...

The funny thing about the video is that it says you can do whatever you want and be able to play for all eternity. That ability to be able to do whatever you wanted is what drove most people away...

As for being able to play for all eternity, I guess Sonic Team considers offline mode to be fun....

well, maybe they mean when you dont mind restarting completely a few times for no obvious reason (inclusive new hardware each time)...

i actually do think offline is fun lol. PSO in all its forms was fun 99.9% of the time no matter how ya played. and PSU is lookin great from what i got to play at E3.
