View Full Version : More new characters for Episode I&II ?!

After scanning those pics from the Book Of Hunters, I went for a look for any new info on Episode I&II and found this on Sega.com

http://sega.com/games/gamecube/post_gamecube1look.jhtml?article=1look_psoiandii

"The three main character classes of previous PSO games are available here, each with a new, fourth being to choose from. There are also two brand new classes, giving you a slew of new characters to select and mold into your identity of choice."

???? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

Is this just Sega Of America getting their facts mixed up? Surely Sonic Team wouldn't add anything more to the game! But after the unveiling of the new lobby themes and bosses, maybe they have one BIG surprise left?

If Episode I&II gets any better I'm in danger of having a heart-attack before we even get to the release day! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Heheh. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I read that yesterday (?) and I assumed it was Sega (of America) getting the facts mixed up. But if it turns out to be right, joy! ^__^

Does seem very odd wording, I wouldn't describe the 3 new characters as 'a slew of new characters to choose from'!

The '2 brand new classes' seems to imply something other than just Hunter, Ranger, Force doesn't it? And therefore probably 4 types of those 2 new classes, to match the existing ones.

So another 8 characters, bringing the total to 20?! Now that *would* be a slew of new characters, but surely this can't be right! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

Mrawr, some people in IRC thought that was just misworded, but two extra class is too fooked up =o_@=.

I can't seem to de-code this correctly.Am I reading this too fast or is there REALLY gonna be 2 brand new classes to play with?I hope they didn't misplace that info >.>

If it was worded correctly, it would also mean that there would be a HUmarl...

original 3 classes
HUmar
HUcast
HUnwearl
FOnewm
FOmarl
FOnwearl
RAcast
RAmar
RAcaesceal

One extra char for each class
FOmar
RAmarl
HUmarl/HUnewm??

2 new classes?
I have no clue what the 2 new classes could be...

Anybody remember back to the earlier phantasy stars and their characters?

Too bad it's most likely a typo...

it would be cool if this wasnt a typo... but it most likely is one.

let the speculation begin...
to be very basic...i'd guess a new tank class and a new magic-user class. Maybe a hybrid or something....but 2 new classes? wow..never expected this... seems like everyone's been creaming their panties over the FOmar, HUcaseal, and RAmarl already

*hopes that wasnt a typo, so that one of the new classes can be a Mech-Hybrid!*

It's definitely safest to assume that it's just a typo. Perhaps a horrible mistranslation or something, haha.

Seeing as most of the other changes after the trial have been cosmetic or bug fixes, I don't think that ST would implement such a massive change so late in development...

If it isn't a typo the two new classes are the Hunewm and Humarl, most likely. I wonder if the Hunewm and Fomars can take down the massive population of Humars dressed in black.

Heheh. That's me. At least my main character.

From the wording, which is very specific really, it would be 2 new classes in addition to Hunter, Ranger and Force. So unfortunately that would mean no Hunewm or Humarl. Unless they keep the design but change their class.

It does seem too good to be true, a possible 8 new characters this close to the release! But then again the 3 new characters were about the first things to be revealed, nearly a year ago. They do seem a bit 'stale' now, and not as exciting as when they were first shown, in comparison to all the other new stuff since.

So now that they have doubled the number of stages, maybe they decided to basically double the number of character as well?

Also the new characters aren't selectable in the Trial Version are they? Which I always thought was a bit odd if you are bug-testing the game. Maybe that was because they knew there was going to be a lot more characters?

I'm not going to set myself up for disappointment by expecting the 2 new classes, but we are coming up to 4 weeks before release. Maybe they've planned this as a big surprise for the final month? It would create big buzz in the PSO community that's for sure, and I think anyone who was in 2 minds about getting the GC one would be sold on the idea on hearing this.

It says there are the 3 existing classes and a 4th one to chose from, yet they say 2 more are included, which makes 3. It sounds odd but i think there will be one more but the 2 they say will probably monster classes? but then again it doesn't make sense when they say "mold your identity of choice". An imaginary friend? dunno..

I agree. I've herad SOA call aeach character a different class so they're probably just talking about the new 3 we already know about. I hope there are 2 new classes though.

IMO, it's just rumour....ST already design the cover and all...Why would these two char be so secretive??if they really intend to include these two new chars, they wouldd have announce it and probably added to the cover...I don't believe they will include the 2 new chars, but of course it wouldn't hurt if they do...the more the merrier...http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
But I don't think it will happen...But it would be interesting to see if that really ahppens, anything is possible...ST proved to us many times...new bosss, new lobby...why not new chars??but personally Id on't believe until ST announce them themselves...

Well, Raja was a priest... and hey, there're soldiers walking around Pioneer 2. Maybe they're going to split Forces into healers and attack mages, and add a "Soldier" class. But, I won't get my hopes up because it's probably just a mistranslation, as usual.

I read that shit last week. Most likely they are just stupid jackasses wh can interpret their english correctly, and by what they stated meant "will include new types of characters" however haveing even more to choose from would be cool!

I hope they really suprise me with this god damn game since i'm getting so damn sick of waiting for it.

Why doesn't somebody e-mail Sega asking them what the feck they mean by this?

SPECIAL_WEAPON_FOmarl
Aug 6, 2002, 11:12 PM
I understand what they mean by the forth thing.Choose 3 classes with a forth to choose from is the talk about the "fourth" class you can pick.Example is

1st FOmarl

2nd FOnewmeral

3rd FOnewmn

and the speak of forth would mean FOmar.

so that answers the speak of a 4th to play with. Now the thing that sounds interesting is the speak of 2 more classes to pick. There are 3 classes and a forth new one to pick in each class. So what are the 2 new classes?

Im sure everyone already knew what I just posted above though -_-;;

a Raja like priest would be nice... a good buffer/healer type..
all things considered, they really need to upgrade the magic in PSO... or something like the cross moves in PS:EotM.....

there's so much more they could have done.....

Why dont we just wait and see what actually happens in america. then we can see what we can expect later on.

Lejes
Aug 7, 2002, 02:20 PM
It has to be a typo. There's no way ST of america will make two new classes.Even if they did it pretty much guarantees we'd be cut off from the JP servers and importers if the JP version didn't have these new characters. With Sonic Team's hideous track record of never updating their US site and never doing much quest work in PSO til a lot of players quit, I doubt their lazy streak owuld suddenly end like this. Their lazyness makes a typo all the more logical.

Nash
Aug 7, 2002, 03:21 PM
Who said anything about Sonic Team of America?

Remember the 3 new characters were revealed nearly a year ago now. A lot has been added to the game since, and as well as designing new levels they might have been designing new characters as well because they realised the 3 new ones are no longer as interesting anymore. The new lobbies weren't unveiled until very recently, maybe new characters is next ...

I'm still not gonna expect it, because it would almost make the game *too* good! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif But the text does seem far too specific to be a typo ...

Zio
Aug 7, 2002, 09:37 PM
i hope it is, adding 8 more characters would make the game too big, too many chars to choose from #_#.

Nash
Aug 7, 2002, 10:43 PM
Ok, one last bit of possible evidence for those of us who hope the new classes thing is true.

Sega are hyping the game on Sega.co.jp, but the Episode I&2 link takes you here:

http://www.sonicteam.com/psogc/trial/pc/index_on.html

Which is still the Trial site. If you put in what is likely to be the proper site, you just get a blue page with the title 'home'. No artwork or anything.

http://www.sonicteam.com/psogc/

So what are they hiding? Why take people who may just be looking for info on the game to the Trial site, which has basically no info on the game at all?

Looks like when the trial finishes on the 19th we will finally get to see the 'proper' Episode I&II site.

I think the two new classes will be:

HAcker class
------------
Has the ability to generate more items than the shops on Pioneer 2. Is usually equipped with every type of exremely rare weapon/armour/MAG available.

HAmar
HAcast
HAmarl
HAcaseal

PKer class
----------
Cannot use conventional weapons, can only equip Gamesharks or Xploders. Shunned and disliked by the other character classes, the PKer rarely has any friends. Has no TP on account of not having a MIND.

PKmar
PKnewman
PKmarl
PKnewearl

DC PSO has gone to hell so complaining about cheating is pointless anyway. GC PSO however is to many a fresh start. The ones that start doing minor cheats like duping and such will be bitched at heavily. Not to say I wouldn't blame them though...it would be nice to see how the game was during the 'Golden Age' of PSO during the first couple months of it's existence. Too bad I missed out on that.

HarleyQuinn
Aug 8, 2002, 10:07 AM
Yep, I missed out on that too Chaos_Knight. Hopefully we can experience a cheat-free GC PSO for at least a little while.

Castoth
Aug 8, 2002, 10:11 AM
Yeah, a little while. As long as it doesn't get to the point where NOLing becomes commonplace, it will be playable. Heck, even resta PKing isn't that bad really compared to what happened so I'd be happy if it only progressed that far.

Cabel
Aug 8, 2002, 01:06 PM
I don't think there ever really was a golden age was there? Or at least, those who were there weren't able to appreciate it. I think the new golden age gc experience will be appreciated or the first time by everybody.

A Priest? Soldier? I think you've just won the award for lamest and most "unrealistic" idea. Forces can already heal why would they split them into two different groups.

Sonic Team already made the three Job Classes Hunter, Ranger, and Force. All of them are real broad and general.

EX:The Hunter covers all phsycal jobs (ninja, knight, thief,etc...).
