The JP episode 1&2 GC site is saying that between the 12th and 22nd, their offices are closing down. Is this just for incoming mail? Or will this also affect the game in the event the servers crash?

Well this is a direct translation according to Babblefish. I really don't understand its implication at all. Breaking it down it could mean: "During summer suspension (break?) period, it is not possible to receive mail (slow mail?) with technical assistance questions from customers. Because of the minimal staff, we please request customers to send their inquiries after the summer suspension (break?). The suspension (break?) of our support and maintanance department will be from August 17th to August 22nd. We will still receive incoming calls and email through our Sega Customer support line and email address."
