View Full Version : PSOBB: Rare enemy appearance rates: conclusion

After adding up some numbers from a lot of documented excavation runs, I have come across 244 rare enemy sightings, out of 125,306 enemies that could have been a rare enemy (and in some cases were).
According to my calculator 125,306 / 244 = 513.55. I think it's pretty safe to say the appearance rate is 1/512 now, in case anyone was interested in knowing.

<.< Damnit, I thought it was 1/256 because of the no piping.

heh, that'll explain the distinct lack of Dorphon Eclairs http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Guess I just got lucky with the Del/Pal Rappies then http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Nice work Tycho, good to know this.

The calculator is playing tricks on you! It knows what you're thinking, so it brings you this result! Axel would think so, too!

i wouldn't see why they would change it anyways..so what if we can't pipe

it was just part of the game we took advantage of!
anyways, with the new quests there are more chances of them having more of a certain monster!
or so i guess!

Was this done across all difficulties, seperately?

I remember reading somewhere that ST encourage piping. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_confused.gif

I think they did not mind. It's just that for online mode (to 'prevent cheating' everything had to be server-side) the monsters data would be stored anyway...

That's more like it.

I kind of figured this was the case. Really, it doesn't change much for me or my plans. It just means I get more experience getting there.

I somehow really doubt the REAR of Dorphon Eclair is 1/512, I saw way more than 1/512 Dorphon Eclair/Dorphon, and so have many people.

It would make sense that, like Kondrieu, Dorphon Eclair has a separate rate (1/256?).

Did you break the data into smaller bits? You know, rare monster appearances by difficulty level as well as by enemy.

Might see if there is any difference in monsters or difficulty. But this is a nice meta-analysis regardless.

Dorphon Eclair is the monster that made Axel conclude it was 1/512, and he has done more EP4 runs than anyone else.
@Jolt: 1/512 is for all episodes, and at least for VH and Ult. I barely had any excavations from Hard, and none for Normal. But since the REAR has never been dependant of difficulty before and since N/H's only useful rare enemy drop (Photon Crystal) is easier to find in higher difficulties...

That actually still isn't enough trials to be absolutely sure. There could very well be someone who sees far more or far less than that. I didn't see my first rare monster until level 65.

Take that number of encounters and multiply it by 10 and you'll have a more accurate result http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I sadly have to agree, my pal rappy hunt has so far come out with about 1/500

Tycho, are you saying that a photon crystal is easier to find on vhard/ult goran drops than it is to find off of rare enemies in normal/hard?

Tycho

Yes Jolt, I think so.

I'm not asking you to believe it. I'm satisfied with these results, you go count 2.5K+ rare enemies if you want. :e

Well, considering we don't have game code available, we have to simply guess based on the trials we've held up to this point.

Beings that it's impossible to hold an infinite number of trials, the best we can do is hold a very large number of them.

Are the playing experiences of a single player sufficient enough to prove a rate that he already had in mind?

Tycho compiled the runs of several players, not one.

You think one person played and counted that much? XP
It's more like ten Axels. <_<

I AM SATIFIED

it seem acurate to be!
