Whenever i make my own sig (now), its in the measurements limit, but i always find that the filesize is GARGANTUAN, compared to what it should be. Is there any program that could help me lower how many bytes the image takes up, and how?

EDIT: actually, im starting to doubt that this thread belongs in this part of the forum... well, i suppose it half does... http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_confused.gif

Do you have any graphics programs on your pc? If so any of those should be able to reduce the file size for you. If not check out this THREAD (http://www.pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=101872&forum=3&6) for a link to GIMP which is a free graphics program that has a lot of great features. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Did you install GTK+ 2 for Windows as it mentions in the thread I linked to? If not go HERE (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gimp-win/gtk%2B-2.6.8-setup-1.zip?download) to get that and install that first.

Use WINRAR (http://rarlab.com/rar/wrar350.exe). I like it alot better than Winzip. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

heh thats what I use also is Photoshop (i'm using version 9 which is CS2.) Anyway, open your pic in PS and go to Save as and it will ask you to select the quality. You can usually go down a few notches without much if any visual loss. It should tell you the file size of each selection as you go up or down in quality. Thats the easiest way to reduce file size if you aren't familiar with the program.

To expand on what Violet said, if you choose "Save For Web" and select the "2-Up" tab you can see the original file and the compressed file side-by-side. Also, you get 100 levels of jpg compression to play with rather than just 12. If you're detail-obsessed like me, seeing a comparison between the original and potential pictures is invaluable. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

If you think the picture might look better or be smaller as a gif or png (for a screenshot, this is very probably not the case! But just for future reference...) you can switch between file types, as well.

It probably isn't really necessary to be this obsessed over seeing all consequences of compression ( http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif ) but it's intuitive enough.
