Personally, I think this is awesome- the first time a robot like this will become publicly available. I think it's great to see robotics developing further.

Anyway, what do you all think?

Now, gib mechs http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

So how would it tell if one becomes ill? or lets say the person gets injured or something and the robot thinks the person is sleeping or something along those lines...I would need to see i in action y'know?

In some years, robots will be standing next to everyone in family photos.

Let's see where this leads.

So like, only me who wants more robots in the world then?

It depends how capable we make these robots. For now, they seem to only be fairly simple, the robot in the article could only recognise 10 people... I really want to see where this leads.

As for I,Robot- bleh. If it starts getting like Terminator 2's 'Judgement Day', then we can look back and say "Feck."

Hehe so true!
I dont really see the need for the robots. We are makign advances that will eventually destroy the world http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Now all we need to wait for is Skynet to become self-aware.

Well... Isaac Asimov anyone? http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

In any case, there have been "mover" robots in Japan for some time now. They assist in moving around furnature that is heavy. Really though, why build any more AI than needed in a robot than what is needed for the basic operations? It requires more work and thus is likely to be done anyway. So you most likely won't have microwaves running at you in a rabid rage to kill you.

The idea of "computers wise up" has been around since the very invention. Heck, it was the premise several times in Star Trek, as in, the first one.

But, just to leave you with a bit of comfort, the human eye, singular, has the ability to process more information in one second that the majority of the computers in the world can do in 50 years. So, yeah, biological entities still win in overall ability to adapt, think, and most importantly, learn and reason.

Well I think that this is neat as hell... And if Robots can become self aware, why couldn't they develop a conscience as well? The whole idea is so farfetched... But regardless, even so, the world needs to end some day... Either it happens from robots wiping out humanity, or it happens from completely exhausting the worlds resources... The time will come... Maybe the robots will even save the planet! http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

*thinks back to Unreal Tournament 2004's Robotfactory level... yesh, the robots 'brutally disposed of their creators'.

I still want to see this advance though http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif
