"While the show floor of E3 is always replete with scantily clad women vying for the attention of the redominantly male audience, Acclaim is poised to do the unthinkable. The company's Dave Mirra BMX XXX title will boldy feature nudity. In a similar move, Tecmo, wih its DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball, features a selection of bikinied babes frolicking in the sand and sun.

With politicans and parents more mindlful than ever of the effect of video games on the nation's youth, a game that flouts convention like Dave Mirra XXX will surely be an easy target for an ESRB Mature rating. We're sure you're thinking 'what for?' The center of the game's salaciousness revolves around the create-a-player mode. Here you can make your female rider entirely topless, and she will appear in the games levels as such. In fact, you can even increase her bust size if you so choose. This isnt all however, as XXX also features an industry first - full - motion video of real-life strippers. During the game, the money you earn can be used to encourage ladies of the Scores adult club to disrobe. A similar gameplay option exists in multiplayer. Will they go all the way? An Acclaim representative told us that it had not been determined just how far they would undress. Perhaps the publisher will be forced to inset blurred textures or black bars if total nudity is not possible.

As far as Tecmo is concerned, DOAXBV is a little tamer. Still, the series creator Tomonobu Itagaki was straightforward regarding his latest creation of his 'boyish imagination' He commented, "With this game, we are givng fans what they have been asking for all along - the ability to admire gorgeous ladies at play...more specifically, as they jump and dive after a volleyball."

Rumor has it, however, that this fun in the sun may get a little dirty with a topless mode and see-through bikins - something that isnt unnatural in the publisher's home of Japan. Tecmo's Marketin Director John Inada told GI, "Natually, the skimpy bikinis that the DOA girls are wearing may put your mind in the gutter, but we have not confirmed anything about nudity in the game."

So what do the powers that be think? [i]Game Informer[/b] talked to Sony of America's Senior Vice President Andrew House, who said that the company would 'look to the ESRB for guidence' on titles like Dave Mirra BMX XXX. He did, however, categorically dismiss the publishing of any Adult Only rated game on the PS2. Xbox's 'Games Guru' Ed Fries also agreed with such a ban on adult-only content. the ESRB classifies AO games as those that "May include graphic depictons of sex and/or violence." Interestingly, Acclaim lists Nintendo's Gamecube as a platform for XXX. Game Informer contacted the usually kid-centric maker of the console, but could not confirm whether Dave Mirra was on its schedule, nor if it would allow such a title on its system.

If you think that the scrutiny on video games is already tough, Titles like Dave Mirra BMX XXX and (possibly) Dead or Alive Xtreme beach Volleyball may only focus even more heat on the industry - should they ship according to their developer's desires. Like other forms of entertainment, we may be seeing video games going through its growing pains, with sexual content its newest battle line."

All that blood and gore and well...there is so many games out like that now, and no one gives a crap. One thing is put some nudity stuff in a game that is main point isn't nudity. There has been always something, like many said in street fighter games, duke nukem, now I remember super metroid, it was possible to see samus in bikini. Or even put real nudes in some place of the game.
And the other is make games only for this. Look DOAX, buy bikinis, make replays and pics, all is voyeur oriented.
Well i'm not against, but I won't buy these type of games, I like a game to play it, not for watch boobs, butts or sex

Dont really care if theres is nudity in games. XXX seems like atacky cash in to sell a second rate game, and DOA Volleyball looks just like a normal volleyball game, but with more well endowed players.

Only thing i resented was the way he said GC was more of a kiddy console and you were less likly to see that sort of game on it. Everyone keeps on about the kiddy console thing.

Oh, and back on topic, in the newest OXM, Itagaki(DOA creator) says: The game is likely to recieve an M rating from ESRB Which is a little odd , since there's no nudity - just an awful lot of what we'd call... Compromising Positions.

We'll have to wait for our next chance to see Lei Fang's wonder bags in DOA4...

Ok nudity in video games was something that was inevitable. A very good example of this was highlighted by an article I read some years back. When a number of players were upset about the lack of technical support in Ultima Online they marched their characters to the castle, stripped buck naked and paraded around there until someone took notice. In addition UO's creator talked about using reproduction in game as a way for new characters to be introduced. The point about all this is, as someone else already said (Sorry can't remember who) pointed out that after a while this will become normal and no big fuss. I remember when Mortal Kombat first came out and had all the blood and violence that was present in the arcade removed for the home versions. Since then games have slowly got more and more grafic depictions of violence and nobody raises an eyebrow because its now the norm. If nudity is featured often enough for whatever reason then eventually it will become just another regular feature. However that said this principal is somewhat one sided as it is unlikely that there will ever be a game that depicts male nudity that is not considered a form of pornography. As a man I have no problems with images of mostly naked women, but it does occur to me that the women are getting little in return. So the question stands, is it right to depict women as objects of sexual desire only whilst keeping stricter rules regarding the men?

Personally I don't know. Yes, images of women are nice but buying a game just for them is sad. There are other ways to get such things not least of which is actually try and form an actual relationship with a woman. No, I am not sure that was a good idea about the BMX game. If you want ndity then put it in a place where it belongs and not in a sports game. Having to resort to half naked women to sell your game means that you just can't make a good enough game to sell without them.

How can you say its a kiddy console? Its got some kid orientated games? So every other console! I know PS2 has games like Donald Ducks Quack Attack, Antz Extreme Racing and Rayman 3. X Box has the same above titles. Does that make them to consoles Kiddy Consoles? Didnt think so. Alot more mature games are coming to GC, just as they are coming to PS2 and X-Box. I no longer feel Nintendo has to keep there kiddy image.

Yeah, PS2 has kids games. But that's what, 5-10% of the PS2's game titles. And they have ALOT of games out. I'm not sure of the # of GCN titles out, but I bet it's not even half of what PS2 has. And that accentuates all the kiddie games it has.

Disney crap like Magic Mirror, Goin Quackers, and Tarzan. Jimmy Neutron. Then Mario's Pussy-whiped Adventures. And I can hardly wait for the next Pokemon games.

And even their all-ages games have the super-cute children look to it. Look @ Animal Crossing, Pimkin, and Super Monkey Ball(I love the game, tho)

If you can't call it "The Kiddie Console," @ least call it "The Cutsie-Wootsie Console."

I doubt its 5-10% of there titles, it will probably be alot more. Alot of the kiddies titles normally end up being multi format (that donald duck thing came from DC to PS2 to GC) and will end up on the majority of consoles.

I can see your point about it being a bit 'cutsie', but thats not with every game. And the games that are like it, youve got to play really before you comment (except for monkey ball, you said you liked that). People kept on saying the Saturn was a crap console with crap game, but most of them hadnt actually played on a saturn. Burning Rangers, NiGHTS, Daytona, all classic titles but no one gave them a chance because they thought Saturn was crap. Now it seems people wont give GC games or the console itself a chance cause they think its 'cutsie'.

Well, at least i know that its totally a kiddies console and i will being enjoying many different and most likly unique games on it.

Im pretty sure that this is some crazy stunt being pulled by the major corperations to try to get the most out of the "M-Mature" rating. The way I see it, if they actually let this pass by, the porn industry will flock to Nintendo, Sony, & Microsoft like vultures to make use of their new form of media making bogus, unliscenced games.

Someone in Nintendo has a really twisted mind. The latest Playboy magazine and other men centered periodicals currently feature an advertisement by Nintendo, where Mario is spraying his water over a girl. The ad reads

"Summer. Mario.It feels so good."

It looks innocent, but viewers with the kind of minds that read Playboy ought to interpret it a bit differently from Kids ..not that kids should be reading them. I would've never thought I'd see the day that Nintendo would advertise on an adult oriented magazine.

I think some people seem to take this a little too far. It is just like the violence issue, where games would always try to sell based on the violence in the game. Some were good (Doom, Crusader, Quake, Unreal) and many were bad (mostly the Doom clones that tried to capitialized on its sucess). I am not interested in the BMX XXX, but I have some interest in DOA: XVB, but that is because I like the DOA games, not because of the whole nudity issue.

Well Im not much of a DOA fan, I just like playing DOA2 for DC. I mean, if they want to sell a game, do they really need to go THAT far? I mean In DOAXBV, Not only do you have the DOA girls in skimpy outfits, but you (the player) can develop kind of a lesbian relationship with teamates.

I mean right now, theyre taking Video games to a whole new level...and a very scummy one at that.
