Now, since I completely respect the laws on these sorts of things, I'll inform you that my sister does indeed own Pokemon Fire Red on a real Gameboy Advance, so it's not like I was being illegal in downloading this emulator or ROM. And that's the straight up truth.

Now, to get to the point of this thread. The ROM I downloaded seems to be, for lack of a better term, the R-rated verison of the classic we all enjoyed as kids. I can't tell if it was just translated by someone even more sarcastic and cynical than myself or if this was the actual dialogue that the Japanese creators of Pokemon came up with, but regardless of the reason behind it, this game is downright awesome. I can't help but to think that perhaps this was the original version, and us Americans just ended up with the PlaySkool edition so that we wouldn't taint our virgin minds. Anyway, here are a few fun screen captures my friend and I took while playing through the beginning parts of what I've come to call Pokemon Blood Red. Enjoy!

Remember the guy who wouldn't let you through the gate to Viridian Forest because he "hadn't had his coffee?" Yeah, turns out that what he meant by coffee was vodka.

Here's another favorite of mine. It was taken by my friend on her computer, so I'm not really sure what the context was. Either way, I think it's pretty awesome that this random Team Rocket guy is telling her female character to go "sell them for cash and prostitutes."

And my personal favorite, the "swearing little kid" picture. Robyn had just beaten up one of those shorts-loving camper kids, and apparently he wasn't all too pleased.

Keep in mind that these were all taken in and before the Mt. Moon part of the game, so even more awesomeness is sure to come as we continue our adventure in the morally bankrupt world of Pokemon! Stay tuned!

Its probably a mod.

The Japanese creators wanted a game much like when they were kids and had fun collecting bugs.

So they wouldn't be putting that sort of stuff in there.

Regardless, a simple dialogue switch still wouldn't make me want to play Pokemon again. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

EDIT: Forum rules specifically state that you are not allowed to ask where to download ROMs of this nature. Consider this your verbal warning.

Guess again. Downloading a ROM is still completely illegal, whether you own an actual copy of the game or not. Even if that little lie that ROM sites spread was actually true, what you did would still be illegal, because you don't own the thing, your sister does, meaning laws pertaining to backup copies don't apply to you.

The myth that it's legal if you own a copy is spawned from the law pertaining to protecting software you'be purchased. In that case, you are allowed to make one backup copy, and thus, it does not apply to copies (legitimate or otherwise) from outside sources. Nintendo still discourages even that act, and evidence of such is found in not only their software manuals, but also in the fact that, until the Revolution, at least, have solely used proprietary media formats, in order to make it difficult to even make such backup copies.

Hmm... well, that's kinda lame, but at the same time, it makes sense.

Yet I wonder why they allow you to make a backup copy. I mean, who actually has the means to create a copy of a cartridge game?

It's the law that states you're allowed to make a single backup copy of your software, but Nintendo tries to keep people from doing so by making it require very specific equipment to do so. They have a very strong anti-piracy stance, which is why they've been using cartriges and their own disc formats so far.

Despite the illegal factor of it, it is very funny. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
