Has anyone played this game? The Japanese Open Beta version was just released a few days ago and I started playing it and I'm still amazed by this game as I continue to play it. The only problem is, it's the JP version (US version comes in 2006) and I struggle to understand basic commands...not to mention that I have yet to encounter an english-speaking player http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif. I'll post some screenshots of my character after I take some next game.

Check it out here:
http://rfonline.jp

You'll need to make a SegaLink account, and from there you need to make a RFO account. No credit card information is required for the Open Beta.

If anyone gets on, let me know. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Looks very nice, but as a rule I'm not going to bother with it until there's more information, or atleast some english going into it.

Have to tell us about the gameplay and so on when you get into it abit more.

I saw the introduction movie to this an extremely long time ago. I was wondering when it'd be released.

Looking at the screenshots and what not makes it look like it's going to kick some serious ass.

I will definitely check it out, but not until the US Open Beta.

If you missed the opening movie, anybody, it's pretty bad ass. I saved it from when they posted it all the way back from December 2003, haha.

Right click and save as to download (http://www.vengefulsoda.com/rfonline500_338_stream.wmv).

I wonder why this movie isn't on their page? I guess they're going to add it later, I notice "Image Movie" is on the download page but disabled. Also the song in this movie is the "Love Theme", but the "Love Theme" on their page has no vocals. The one in the movie is vocalized.

They released this movie quite some time ago, so it should be safe for posting.

Edit: Okay, now the file is done uploading.

From what I can gather from the video, a Korean company paid a crapload of money to fund that trailer.

Looks nice, but I agree with Abdur.

A friend of mine wanted me to get into this a few days ago.. I just don't have the time to play another online game these days. Nor the patience to put up with JP everywhere on a game I never have seen english controls.

I'll probablly change my mind if there's an english release, but who knows, right?

Seen the trailer, did nothing for me to be honest =/ I don't know, PvP isn't my thing I guess.

Little off-topic, but my brother just got Guild Wars. Looks alright, though doubt I'd play it. However, the similarities between this and Lineage II (both by NCSoft) are a bit disturbing http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif Having said that, I guess most RPG's are similar like that =/

PSU's got me more interested at the minute, plus there's the fact that a few of my friends are moving to it, whereas only one is considering Rising Force.

It looks like it controls like an fps, just like Gunz (also a korean game). That's a good thing by the way, it also looks like it's badass, what with some cool looking bladed weps and some INSANE CHAINGUNS. I'd make an account, but I forgot any japanese i might've known a long time ago.

...does that mean it's free?

Well it's the open beta so yeah, it's free for now. It has no similarities with the mediocre Korean game "Gunz:The Duel".

It controls almost exactly like Diablo and the worlds are very very huge. All the maps alternate between morning/afternoon/sunset/night so you see a change in graphics which looks very pleasing.

Thanks for the vid Watashiwa. Haven't seen it before (like you said, the link on the site doesn't work). I noticed some vehicles in that vid that I haven't seen in the game yet. But I'm thinking there's gotta be something to travel on other than foot--the maps are just too huge!

If anyone needs help with making an account, I think there's a guide somewhere on this site--> http://rfbase.com/modules/newbb/

I don't know exaclty where, but I snooped around on the forums for a bit and people were talking about it. I registered for mine before I found the site so I didn't bother to find it.

I'll post some more snaps later but for now check out the easter bunnies http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

[EDIT]Forgot to add, I don't know what all the PvP hype is. All I've seen in this game so far is co-operative play. Slaying monsters in teams or guilds.

Nah, still hasn't changed my opinion, won't be getting this. =/

Looks nice enough detail, and all the signs of a good game, I just don't fancy playing it- usually a game I want will impress me from pictures and trailers, but this isnt one of them unfortunately.

it looks very similar to linage 2 to me. if it's anything like linage 2 I will stay away from this game at all costs http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

but I reckon I will give it a try if they ever have english open beta.

Might have to give this a go. Love the look of the easter bunnies but I'm not sure about the shorts on your character. Either he's a very keen cyclist or there's a "pride" thing going on there...XD

Rubius-sama
Sep 8, 2005, 05:44 PM
Dude you have no idea lol. I tried looking through everything but that was the longest "shorts" I could find. Good news is that what you see there is just the "skin" look of your char. Once you get armor, you will look different. Everything you equip will show up on your character.

Some more piccies...

Hanging out at the local weapons shop. It's usually packed full of players like this. I managed to find some new "clothing" for my character (short of bing called armor ><)

Nice sword and shield...and fully equipped with armor (not my char >_>)

Found a nice shield&sword combo. Will work well until I can use my bow.

I got to play the game a bit more now. If anyone cares, I'll describe what I have seen so far.

Basically when you begin the game, you choose a faction (more like, a "race") that you wish to belong to. There are three factions.

-Bellato Union: These are RFO's equivalent to humans. They are very intelligent, and because of that, they can create technology/machines and use them in game. They also wield white magic spells.

-Cora Holy Alliance: This is an elven race and they specialize in black magic as well as summoning gaurdians (called Animus). They are very anceint in terms of their arsenal. Their home is full of green fields and forests.

-Accretia Empire: The Accretians are a mecha race, and as such they cannot use magic. However, they do wield VERY big guns and are very strong compared to the other races (it all balances out). There are magic spells that can stop their movement. Their homeland is deserts and canyons.

After you select a faction, you have to select your class. I picked Cora Holy Alliance (because I love the forest, for one) and could choose from Warrior, Ranger, Force, or Specialist (an all-around type class, also a mechanic that can build gaurd towers and upgrade equipement). I decided with Warrior for my character, though I can still use guns and magic spells.

The GamePlay:
======================

The world of RFO breaks down like this:

-One Galaxy
-2 Solar Systems
-Several planets and a sun in each solar system
-Several continents in one planet
-A few countries in each continent
-A few cities in one country

Your "homeland" is one GIANT city.

At the moment, it looks like the purpose of the game is the conquer the Galaxy (though I can't say for sure). Like a strategy game, except you assume the role of a foot soldier where you are responsible for leveling yourself up and getting stronger.

As long as you stay in your homeland, the game is very co-operative. You can form small parties, or you can form Guilds. Guilds do not compete with each other. There is no competition between members of the same faction.

In your homeland, you have your main HQ, and outpost or two. The rest is a gigantic monster-slaying battlefield. You can also head over to different cities and fight different monsters.

Player Vs. Player:
======================

Factions can schedule several raids in which they all get together and raid another faction's homeland. The "center" between the three faction homelands is a mining field called Crag. For that reason, much of the fighting takes place in Crag. Also, Crag is full of resources and members of all factions head there to mine for resources. A lot of insanely huge battles happen in Crag and there are fireballs heading in every direction, and blasts everywhere. Very fun to watch http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I can't describe this in more detail because I am still a low level and I always get killed by mechs.

Trading:
===============

In RFO, enemies don't drop money. They drop equipment which you can sell for money. This is the main method of making money--by selling equipment. Not only to shops, but also to other players.

RFO has a unique trading system where you can auction off your equipment, and if anyone likes the price, they'll take it.

You can mine for mineral ores in Crag, which you can either sell for money, or refine into jems that upgrade armor and weapons.

There is also a sort of "stock market" where you can buy gold at an exchange rate. When the rate fluctuates, you can sell that gold and make a profit.

There's more, but I can't think of anything else to write at the moment. I really love this game...it's very exciting. Also happened to meet Tancient from PSOW in the game, as well as a few other former PSOBB players. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I like the looks of it so far, and I can already tell that when it gets an english beta, I'll be on it. Accretia Empire, quite my type. =]

Here, Codemasters is taking care of things.

English site, also has it's own forum and talks about English open beta in October.

Hmm...that's almost as hard as finding Waldo =P
But, if this pic was taken in the last two days...I would say I'm the guy with the extended collar on the far left =)

Abdur, glad you like it so far. I think an english beta is slated for october/november release(that's the word on RFO fan forums) but I would take that with a grain of salt. Accretia is awesome. I think Bellato has a big advantage with the machines they build.

O_O...now that is MUCH harder than finding Waldo!!

I use ALT+K to check out my surroundings somtimes..or to travel long distances. But you know what's funny...when I got up that morning after mining, there were several people just lying dead by the portal. Guess the invaders took a few out before the gaurd towers took care of em lol.

Curiosity
Sep 18, 2005, 01:23 PM
lol, yeah, I wound up dead a couple times myself. In fact theres a few dead people in that pic.

And as for where I am, if you made a line from the center of the spell in the upper left, to the center of the spell closest to it in the cluster of three, it'd come close to touching two shadows and a couple people. I'm making the shadow that's closer to the cluster of three spells.

Although I can't afford to refine the ore I currently have on hand... http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif I'd really like to refine the two stacks of 99 +3 green ore.

Have you upgraded any items yet? I want to, but at my current level, I'm not likely to be keeping anything I currently have for all that long... :/

Heh, gave in to temptation. I'm a lvl 8 melee Accretian on the second server.

Having a blast, made enough money within an hour to buy four extra bags, and have been finding gold and purple items like made. Just sold about 12 rare weapons, ontop of all the other loot drops.

Fun game, and VERY nice graphics.

Half-way to lvl 11 now. Nearly 300k CP.(currency)

Shlevai is the character name. Really wish there was an english Accretian guild though, would make it so much better to be able to talk to people, otherwise it's just bashing stuff non-stop, with pit-stops to sell five bags full of loot.

There is an english Accretian guild on server 2. I could point you to the thread, but http://rfbase.com/index.php is down at the moment. That said, most english players that pick up this game join Accretia...so it should be easier for you to find some english speaking players than it was for me at Cora http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
