I just bought PSO for the Xbox.. It should be arriving next week..
Ive been wondering if this game is like a MMO? I have read that you need to make a group of 4 ppl.. Do you need to be in close vicinity of these other players at all times or can you split up?
Also when playing in game can you run into other groups that are playing?

no its not.
you have lobbies and you have the games.

in an MMORPG you only have one world (per server) in which each player directly logs into.

basically its like its written in the manual - you have to be on the same ship as the others for that everyone of your groop can enter the game one of your teammates or you create.
on xbox, the international servers are seperated - meaning you'll only stumble over people from your hemisphere - america, europe or japan.

when you create a game, only 4 players can be in this game. you can go to each unlocked area without having to drag your teammates along (however, in offline multimode, all players have to go to an area together).

oh.. and welcome to PSOW.

PSO is more like a Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game or MORPG.

PSU will be more like the mmorpg style, with actual worlds to explore.
