Ok, supposedly its set slightly further into the future. Theres Mechs walking about and a Mini Metal Gear follows the player. There is supposedly images of Raiden and Otacon floating about, but I've yet to see them.

Well, this is something that has made me sit up and pay attention to the PS3. The graphics on display in those images are outstanding, they are so crisp. I cant tell if these are in game or not (I wish i could read Japanese), but either way, wow.

And again, Kojima has decided to mix things up in his game. Is this really an Old Snake? How many years really have past? How will this effect the story? Ocelot? The Partiots? So many questions! Arg! So finally a reason to buy a PS3.

Ooh, more links be here:

Although I'm quite a big MGS fan, I think this (if it IS truely the next one), should be the last.

Unofrtunately, I never got to play Snake Eater, so I have no idea what that was like =/

You're right though, if those are in-game shots, they're awesome...

I'm so glad someone agrees with me.
I have yet to play a MGS game, so i have a lot of catching up to do before i get it, so i can wait for PS3s to drop in price a lot.
and im interested to see the pictures of the other characters. >_>
i did watch my brother play 1 and 2, so i know some of what was going on.

Did you think Snake can stay young forever? The story looks like it's placed in the near future...and Snake is much older. He is more of a super-soldier now, having spent his entire life doing what he does.

The first post on this forum has some very good infomation. Um, just try and ignore the rest of the posts as they can destroy brain cells there so dumb.

Seems the game will take place in the middle of a warzone with a constantly changing tide of war. This could be interesting, or more complex. Will eb nice to see how it actually works.

Worth quoting, as a lot of people in other places cant get over that. People age, Snake wasnt going to stay young forever, and this is a great way of showing it.

Somewhat off topic, but this reminded me of my NES. I was clearing out a cabinet that I had it stored along with my games, and I found Metal Gear for it. Like I said, off topic.

Keep in mind that Snake suffers from excellerated aging. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif So it may not be THAT far into the future, maybe just 10 years.

It seems CQC is mentioned, w00t! He needs a beard though. ;(

Haha, the most interesting thing in that one post is that Raiden will be portrayed as 'cooler' now or whatever. >_> I really like Raiden and stuff, but most other people I know hated him, and was pissed when I showed them that he would be in MGS 4.

Wow. Very impressive. And in case some people haven't heard yet, those are indeed supposed to be in-game screens. Just wow.

As for the designs, I do have a problem with the older Snake. It's not that he's older, but it's more that I just don't like his design. It looks rather uninspired. Hopefully his new age will still allow for David Hayter to do the voice.

To be honest, I doubt they'd change the voice of Snake, Hayter has been the iconic voice of Snake for a few years now. I mean, what would MGS be without "You mean, Metal gear?"

I know, I was just fooling around.

Dang it, now I'm gonna feel like I need a PS3.

EDIT: Wait a second, when did Snake lose his eye?

Maybe this isn't Solid Snake we're looking at. (Cause I think it would be a little stupid and contrived if he ended up losing his eye too.)

There's a lot of discussion about the eye thing. Most people have put their bets on it being a device and not an eye patch, allowing him to plug into the Metal Gear MK2 and see what it is seeing.

And after a discussion about the 'tache with a friend, we came to one reasoning for it. Give him a beard and he would be too similer to Big Boss. And that wouldnt be deliberate. Snake is a clone of BB, so there is a chance he would grow up to look identical to his genetic father.

And it just wouldn't be Metal Gear Solid if there was no sign of David Hayter. He has nearly as big a following at my university as Solid Snake does (we watched a film called 'Drive' just for his 1 minute cameo!).

Yeah, we are kinda sad.

Got a theory to share since this topic revolves around the Metal Gear series: Do you think it's possible that the Snake brothers could also be the offspring of The Boss, not just Big Boss?

Think about it: Why would the US Government from the Cold War era want to dispose an excellent specimen to produce excellent soldiers when they could just transfer the egg from her ovaries unto a surrogate mother?

Makes a comparison of The Boss and Liquid Snake since they both share similar features:

The Boss: http://ps2media.gamespy.com/ps2/image/article/541/541276/metal-gear-solid-3-snake-eater-20040823004101352.jpg

Hmm, interesting theory. It could be plausible, they wanted the ultimate soldier, and putting both Big Boss and The Boss' DNA would surely produce those results. But were they able to retrieve her at the end of MGS3? I cant remember if they did bomb the area or not, or if the Russians took possesion of her.

I can't say for certain -- she might have been disposed of by the Soviet MiGs. However, it might also be possible that the CIA extracted eggs from her ovaries BEFORE she executed her final mission, despite the fact that she cannot have anymore children because of her long snake-shaped cesearian after giving birth to... him. >_>

I am really, really looking forward to this game. I like what I have seen so far and I am also liking this new apocalyptic setting ( WTF happened ). It is a bit sad to see that Solid Snake has aged soo much ( it will be interesting to see how much time has passed since MGS2 ), it is looking more and more likely that this will be the last game in Metal Gear Solid series but that does not necesarily mean that it will be the last game in the Metal Gear series.

What do you mean "not just Big Boss"? The Boss wasn't BB mother, just mentor who was like a mother to him.

By the way, the more common theory is that Ocelot is the off-spring of The Boss and The Sorrow.

Poor Snake. Never get to retire. The fate of an entire country always rest on his shoulder because none of the youngling is cutting it. XD

What would Old Raiden look like? :>

I'm assuming that they mean that the clones not only have DNA from Big Boss in them, but The Boss as well. :3

Think Christopher Lambert from MK1 the movie http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
I personally don't like Raiden. Too much of a weaksauce for my taste. =/

On another note, I think they announced the new stars (http://www.students.yorku.ca/~idrisn/pirate_s.jpg) of MGS 5.

Does anyone know where I can see the TGS trailer for MGS4? Please...no Gamespot links. (they don't work for me http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

http://www.konami.jp/gs/kojima_pro/japanese/mgs4_04.html

From the official site. At the minute I cant get it to work though.

Kojima has said he will not be coming back for MGS5, but if Konami want to continue milking the franchise, I can see him coming back (and he said the same things after MGS2 and MGS3, so he is not exactly reliable).

Edit: Man, I wish someone had recorded this trailer - http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/mgs3subsistence/news_6133819.html (Sorry Rubius, that links a gamespot one http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif )

hm, if that's mgs3's snake, he swapped his bad eye http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

anyway, would be cool to guide oji-chan through the levels. maybe he even comes with bad spine, cracking bones, easy fractures and sleeps 20 hours a day http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif
simulatiing all the aches of an elder person would really be a step forward from the food and selfnursing system in mgs3.

anyway, i agree. if this game doesnt just look that good but also plays accordingly, i'd seriously consider buying a ps3 in the near future.

He can't look any worse I guess! Maybe his voice will have broken this time round?
But on a seriouse note, the man just needs some full on facial hair. Only then will he win a place in my heart.
He just needs to be more manly and cool, like our old man, Snake. (And me)

Which they will sadly. People these days are obliviouse to quit while ahead. Escpecially if it's making them money by the bucket load.
It's abouyt as likely as EA saying "Maybe this year people dont want an annually slightly moderated version of last years game?" http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

But anywho, I would gladly sell my first born child to pay for the purchase of this game. As long as it plays as good as it looks mind. I'm not that shallow.

If any of you have watched the trailer, you'll know that that eye patch is a device, it has "Solid Eye System" written on it, and even a little flashing light.

Since this game seems to take place so many years after MGS2, it'd be safe to say that this may be the "last" in the series, but not the last MGS game to be made. They'll likely have to make one or two to fill in that game, being so large. Note that Otacon (http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/714/714044/img_3074910.html) looks like he's in his 40's now, too. How old was he in MGS2? Mid to late 20's?

This is also interesting, because Metal Gear Ac!d 2 is supposed to have a peripheral of the same name.

IGN article on the PSP Solid Eye:

http://psp.ign.com/articles/651/651095p1.html

Also, maybe it's just me, but it looks like there is some sort of tattoo on Snake's face. I think it's about three minutes into the trailer, when he's pressed up against the wall and you see his profile. There's something weird on his face. Maybe it's just a texture error? I dunno.

Anyway, I've yet to see the full trailer, as the Konami website always starts bugging out about four minutes in. Bah.
