This...fairly useless new version of the advanced comes out on September 22nd, and i must say....*sigh* i've taken a look at it, and i'm not sure too many people are going to buy them unless they need a new Advanced.

That's okay.
There are people in the world who don't have a GBA, don't want a DS, and have money to buy it.
I agree that a redesign is just weird, but this is Nintendo, and they know how to milk a good cow for all its worth.
The Gameboy timeline is filled with spinoffs of the same hardware.
This is however the cream of the crop(or crap if your prefer) being the 3rd version(or 2nd revision) of the same hardware.
I would buy one if the colors are more appealing than the GBA SP/DS. Yeah, I might be shallow(color=lame), but that's my stance on it.
Otherwise I won't buy it.

Let's just remember that the Game Boy Micro is not a replacement for the GBA SP. It's simply an alternative for those who believe they may find it convenient to have an oddly small Game Boy.

Exactly.
No different to the PsOne or slimline PS2 really. But still leaving you with the option to buy the original version.
It's Probably much cheaper to manufacture too I guess?
But anyway, as already pointed out, it's just nice to have the option.

Well... I wouldn't compare it to the PSOne or the Slimline PS2. The PSOne and Slimline PS2 were indeed replacements to the original versions of their consoles meant to inspire people to purchase them in the very limited months remaining in their lifespans. When the PSOne and Slimline PS2 were put on the market, the original versions of those consoles were confirmedly out of production. In the case of the Game Boy Micro, the GBA SP is still to be actively available.

It's for image-conscious crowds, as Nintendo has stated. It's really slick looking at the sacrifice of people using a lot of the functionality of a normal GBA. It's kind of like the iPod Mini. It lacks a lot of what the other iPods have, but because of the way it looks, people have bought them in insane numbers.

They are only being sold [at my store anyways], for $127.99, so they arn't terribly expensive. But I don't know, i quite enjoy my DS http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

EBgames has them listed at $99.99(USD):
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/258797.asp
Expensive for what it is.
The faceplates don't look too exciting.
Just depends on your preference of the GBA hardware size/look. Other than the first version, these two have comparable differences. Brighter screen, differently placed buttons. Etc.
And also your preference of the GBA library, use for a handheld. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

If history is any indication Nintendo will have no problem finding people to buy the micro. Remember when Nintendo sold those different colored Game Boys like red, black and the ever popular clear. Of course let's not forget the Game Boy pocket. Even the GBA Sp is a good example.

How would I have remembered that? I don't know you that well, and an infamous quote goes here:
"Well put it in your sig or something."
Just mention it next time(next to the price). This is the internet ya know, there's soo many more currencies out there as well. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif
Hmm, about 1.27 echange rate? http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

My GBA SP got stolen, so I might go over to a GB Micro and pick one up, however it's def not the first thing on my list. I don't think it's a bad piece of hardware though.
