Are there any specific Reasons for a card to corrupt and are there ways to avoid corruptions?

Memory cards are usually corrupted when there is a problem writing to the card. For example, suppose the power goes out while your game is updating the save file. Since the game did not finish writing the file, there will be portions of it that are garbage. As such, you no longer have a valid save file. In some instances, this can corrupt all of the files on your memory card.

Also, memory cards can corrupt if they are physically damaged or a portion of the memory goes bad.

On GC PSO, corruptions usually happen as a result of the double-save. The game has been known to freeze during the 2nd save and so you end up with the case from the first paragraph.

Here are some tips on what to do if your PSO Save file is corrupted:

A very good topic indeed..I do have one question:

Topic #3= Corruption
Method 1- Delete your guild card file
Method 2- Put in a non-corrupted memory card in slotA, get to the single/multi player screen and switch the card with the corrupted one and then pick a char and play. Then save, and you are no longer corrupted.
Note: If your system file or character file is corrupted, you're screwed.

How do you know if your system File or character file is corrupt?

If the methods described in that guide fail, you can be pretty sure that it is your system or character file that has been corrupted.

Hmm, I see. Does it matter how long the file is corrupt to restore it with the methods in the provided link?

I don't think so.

If you really want to protect yourself, here are a couple of things you can do:

1. Buy a backup power supply for your GC in case the power goes out.
2. Be paranoid and play on empty ships.

number 2 actually made me laugh. I did come to PSOW to know my opponent before I actually play with/against them to less my chance of FSOD.

But how much would a backup power supply cost?

prevent freezing on leaving a game by not joining games from the first few lobbies. use official memcards. dont move your chars while it loads into a game. dont hastily requip weapons. care for your console (dont excessively pipe).

all in all, its just pure dumb luck... or actually the lack of it.

an UPS (uninterruptible power supply) ranges in 50-100 $.

I've seen them range in price from $40 - $300. Obviously the higher-priced models will last longer. However, you only need something that will give you the chance to save your game and power down.

Changing weapons quickly can affect the system?

Whenever you change weapons, your Gamecube has to reload the weapon model from the disc. Changing weapons quickly puts additional strain on your system.
