Sup guys,
Any of you guys ever been to OverClocked Remix? It's a great website dedicated to remixes of great game music. Its got some great stuff if you look around. It's even got a few Phantasy Star remixes. If you know what's good for you then visit this site. http://remix.overclocked.org And on the subject of game music, what's your favorite?

My favorite game music, eh?

Well, every song is palced into a category. for fast paced rock: a tie between Open Your Heart (Sonic Adventure 1) and Live And Learn (SA2, I know, I'm a sonic fan)

Rap: Unkown from M.E. (again, Sonic Adventure 1)

Misc.: The intro remix (I think it's called Whole New World, but I'm probably wrong) (PSO Episodes 1 and 2)

I gotta check that site out!

Yeah, Sonic Adventure has some great music. I myself prefer some of the lofty instrumentals from such games as FF7 and Chrono Cross.

I don't listen to game music much but here's what I have in order of preference.
1. The Legend of Zelda OoT
2. PSO, but 1 or 2 of the JSRF songs are better than any of the pso music.
3. Jet Set Radio Future

yep.. that's it.

Legend of Mana - Sweet Ochestral tracks as well as very emotional

Seiken Densetsu 3 - Nicely done tracks, for SNES...

Samurai Spirits (Samurai Shodown) - Traditional Japanese music, ranging from very soothing, to extremely terrifying.

Last Blade 1&2 - Soothing, emotional violin melodies mixed with traditional japanese instrumentation and more...really cool.

Real Bout: Fatal Fury series - Nothing much to say but "KICK @$$"

Art of Fighting 3 - An excellent mixture of jazz with traditional latin melodies!

What's not to like about it? The character themes have lyrics (making them all the better in my eyes, but they rock nonetheless), the boss and stage tunes are catchy, and they always have just the right kind of music for each situation.

Although "My Sweet Passion" sux, and "I Wanna Fly" isn't all that great, and the remix of "Unknown from M.E." is worse than the original (not even the same rap). And don't get me started on Rouge's theme.

I agree with you on Amy's and Tail's theme and UfME remix, but I happen to like Rouge's theme.

Probably the best version of "Believe In Myself" is the SA1 remix where they made like a Rock variation of the song.

Phantasy Star Online soundtrack, is one of my favorites. Others include themes from the Final Fantasy Series, altough FF7 has a bit more variety. Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, but especially 1 due also to the variety available. I'm not saying Sonic Adventure 2 tedious music, but they all belong to the same rock type.
Grandia II had some nice touches and Shenmue had also some interesting tunes. Sonic CD had excelent music in its days and some of my favorite game music tracks are from that game.
I can't also forget Soul Calibur with its great orchestral battle musics and such. The music in there is really out of this age; And Dead or Alive 2 also had great examples of japanese rock music.
And I also think that Chrono Trigger also had nice melodies.
How memories come back when I listen to those tunes... T-T

CRAP! How the heck could I have forgotten the Soul Edge series???

Has anybody listened to the remixes and new music for Soul Blade? They had original Arcade, Remix, and Master Hong style (or somthing like that). It was very nice to know you didn't have to stick with the arcade versions.

So yeah, add any Soul Blade track to my list. I haven't heard enough SC to really like those tracks, and I'm too caught up in not dying on SC2 http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Chrono Cross
Panzer Dragoon series
MegaMan series (X included)

I'm a big fan of Nobuo Uematsu's work on the Final Fantasy games, especially Final Fantasy VII.

I like the music from Sonic Adventure 2, except the music from Knuckles' stages, Unknown from M.E., My Sweet Passion, and Rouge's stages' and theme music.

I like all the music from ... pretty much every Squaresoft game I've played (they know what they're doing).

Jet Grind Radio and Jet Set Radio Future had awesome soundtracks (except for that rap track, yuck). Halo has exceptionally good music. And Tribes 2 has an incredible soundtrack performed by Motley Crue.

StarCraft has some good music, Starsiege has a lot of good music. PSO has good, fitting music, and some really great stuff, too (Tricktrack!).

Any of the Megaman X games, Grandia 2, and the Breath of Fire series all had good music.

I could go on...

the Neo CD music is good but there ARE better versions...In the tree of Neo Geo, there are 3 kinds of STs

3.) Neo-Geo Pocket (low quality)
2.) Neo-Geo MVS/AES (Medium quality)
1.) Neo-Geo CD (High quality)

I recommend downloading some of the MVS/AES or CD music...You'll find theyre a whole lot better. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

If youve played Crapcom Vs. SNK, then you havent experienced SNK in its fullest (As you can see, I dislke Capcom due to the fact that in the CvS series, they completely toned down and bastardized the SNK roster.)

Anyway, SNK games are really cool. The graphics arent much, but they make up for it in gameplay as well as in the music. Its just too bad SNK games nowadays are considered ancent artfacts because theyre so rare...

I got to know SNK because of King of Fighters; my buddy had the game and we would play that for hours on end. Even though it was the 98 version. XD

My favorite music comes from both Gunstar Heroes (Genesis) and MDK2 (DC). I wish I could find remixes of Gunstar Heroes tracks but all I found so far was just one remix and it's one bad piece of shit! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif As for MDK2, I have some of its MP3s on my computer but I'm still missing some.

yeah KOF 98 was by far the best version. 99-2k1 were too striker-based. Right now 2k2 is in its beta stages, Ive heard a lot of good things about this one, but Im still skeptical since they took out a couple regulars from the roster.

I HATE strikers with a passion!! I remember one day I downloaded a MUGEN file of Iori Yagami with strikers. He had two: Mature and Vice, and the AI would keep throwing them one after another and juggle me until I was dead. So basically if I got hit even once, I was KO. I don't really like fighting this way. >.<

What would rock though is special tag team combos like in Dead or Alive 2. Would look cool. Vice throws the character up, and Leona passes right by, shoving her Rebel Spark into the dude. Instant explosion. Vice jumps up, catches the opponent, and shoves him on the ground for an additional Orochi explosion.

Super Mario Bros., Super Mario World, Metroid, Kirby's Adventure, Legend of Zelda, Starfox, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana... ah, all those classics. Have any of you heard of a band called Minibosses? I love their "Kraid Theme" and Rygar tunes. Game Over is also great... I've got their rendition of the Punch Out theme. It's even got lyrics!

New game music isn't as impressive, considering many songs now are just recordings. I have a lot of respect for the programmers who made old-school game music sound so great, despite all the hardware limitations. Don't get me wrong; I really enjoy well-composed music for newer games, too.

Yeah...strikers are not cool at all. I mean it was cool for 99, but then in 2000 they took it a bit too far. Some strikers in 2000 are hella-cheesy.

Nah...that would be too much like the Capcom Vs. series...SNK already tried that with Rage of the Dragons (Double Dragon). That game failed miserably. SNK is better off sticking to their own style.

You just took the words right out of my mouth there. ^^

Then again, there's some "new-schoolers" who push that OLD technology today just for sheer fun & curiosity, and could hold off their own melody values like their early-day counterparts. For example, have you ever heard the work of Jake Kaufman (Virt)? One of the "new-school" 8-bit Nintendo NES composers who have the the attribution of "making simple bleepy tones sound like masterpieces", this guy is an utter genius.

NES cases in point:
http://virt.vgmix.com/fx2/v-ptime.mp3 (Pizza Time)
http://virt.vgmix.com/fx2/v-bogey.mp3 (Bogey at your Six)
http://virt.vgmix.com/fx2/v-blast.mp3 (Blast Off)

But yah... I, too, have DEEP respect for the old chiptune musicians who not only had to use their own music theory skills, but also had to "program" their work into a limited soundchip & push it to its utter limit... ESPECIALLY for the 8-bit NES & Gameboy PSG composers, who had to deal with hacking a sound engine that only had 3 melodic channels with odd timbres that would normally DEFY musical logic, and a scratchy white-noise channel that sounded more like AM-radio static.

Nowadays, it doesn't take much for anyone to make a song that has utterly limited melodic appeal, yet sound like a "sonic marvel". Bleh, I could probably spend 10 minutes jumbling around with automated music creation "tools" like FruityLoops, Dance eJay, MTV Music Generator, or even any CASIOTONE keyboard with a techno drumset, and people would prolly could call it the "newest, coolest Para/Dance/Bemania track" (no offense to anyone -- I actually play DDR, even though I think most of the mixes are IMO sorely lacking. ^^;;).

I love nearly all of the Sonic Games music. The only exceptions would have to be the music from Sonic Advance (it just didnt seem right, not Sonicy to me, wll except for the Ice Stages music) and those annoying Knuckles Raps on SA2. I cold of done without them.

Amys Theme song is just scary. Listen to the lyrics, they say some wierd stuff!

example: 'Your Stick Is So Cute, Ive Got To Shave it"

Whats up with that!
