How do you install programs on one user account only?

I recently found out that when my mum logged on her account ICQ started up (which she doesn't use), which automatically logged in as me, theoretically letting her read all my ICQ messages (which, luckily, being computer-illiterate, she can't).

Plus she gets pissed off when I install games and it fills up her desktop with icons she doesn't want.

Help me please.

You can't really install onto one account, at least, I don't think so. She can delete the icons, and it won't affect your desktop config.

I'm pretty sure there's some option for this in the user accounts manager.

Also, set the save directory for the program to be installed to C:documents and settings*user who wants the program's directory herewhatever* instead of C:documents and settingsallusers.WINDOWS or whatever it is.

I'm pretty sure there is too. There's a user account setup that lets the administer of the comp decide what programs can be used by what user.

I've never done it because I'm the only user for this comp, aside from when my brother looks up mechanical hardware.

My sister though, has 4 accounts on hers. One for her, her husband, and each of their two kids. Each desktop looks different and doesn't have the same icons.

Most likely you can delete the icons, and as for programs like ICQ popping up, just tell it not to automatically sign on/start when the computer is booted up. =)

Yeah but XP is so easy when it comes to networking and auto detecting things that all the trouble makes it worthwhile for me.

The first step to solving your problem is to find the cd labeled Windows 98:SE

Well, this is the off-topic board. I mean, if we stayed on topic that would be a horrible paradox involving *emergency brain shutdown initiated*

*restoring power*

aldsyfwsd... Uh, what was I saying again? Ohhh! Pants!

(P.S. did you try the stuff we suggested, not counting switching to 98, and did it work?)

Aha! On-topic again, i see. Well yes I tried it and it worked, but now i have to remember to do it in the future, which i almost certainly won't. (-_-)

I love creating RPGs from http://www.rpgtoolkit.com and now I can't because XP can't get it. I can get RPG Maker 2000, but it's crappy to me.

spy messed his pants! point and laugh!

Anyway, from what i've heard (here and everywhere else) WinXP is sort of an out-with-the-old-in-with-the-new thing. Word is that MS-DOS things don't work so hot with it, but new things (networking, multi-program running, CD/DVD manipulation, etc...) work better than ever. Microsoft is probably trying to "usher in a new age" or something. Well, i'm going kicking and screaming. How will I play MS-DOS Jetpack if I don't?

(that was almost on-topic...)

(XP didn't let me ftp files in binary mode. I almost wanted to throw it into the garbage.)

So... did your monkey's spitting have anything to do with this post you quoted, or was that just... for no reason?

I PWN J00!!!111

(I really hope that you're not accusing me of going off topic here. And no, the only reason the monkey spat was because I was beating it really, really hard. Let somebody 2x your size beat on you a little bit and you'll know how the monkey felt.)

Wouldn't dream of it.

I'd wonder why... but why wonder?

:8_+; = U R D3D.

(Hmmm. I think we need to get back on topic. I think XP was released far too soon, and that MS really only focused on the visual shell instead of increased system performance.)
