well I went out and grabbed the USB connector for the Nintendo DS. When I got home I went to install it, things went nicely untill I got to the Internet Connection Sharing part of the installation. An Error message pops up http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif it tells me to put the adapter into the USB port... where it already is... well from there it closes and cancels the installation http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

so I don't know why but my computer doesn't seem to read the adapter in the USB plug in >_> under the Device Manager though, it's listed under Network Adapters o:

I have no clue what to do now but it is really makign me mad http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

why won't the bloody thing see it's plugged into the USB and install it fully? .-.

and something I didn't like even more, apparently there are other people who have this poblem on their computers, and the problem seems to be un-fixable for them!!! ><;;;

oh and on a side note, how can I tell if my comp has a firewall or not? >_> the install thing says a firewall can cause it to not install properly. And as far as I know, I don't have one up. Expecially since the windows firewall thing can not be turned on <_<

First of all, are you using a router? If so what kind? In order to use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) the device that will be sharing the connection has its IP set to 192.168.0.1 which is the default gateway address that some routers use, meaning there would be an IP conflict. To check and see do the following:
WINDOWS XP/2000
1. Go to START
2. Click RUN and type in CMD then hit enter
3. In the Command prompt window type ipconfig /all
4. See whats listed for Default Gateway.

Windows 98/98SE/ME
1. Go to START
2. Click run and type WINIPCFG
3. From the dropdown menu, select the appropriate adapter
4. I can't remember if it lists the Default gateway info, but simply look at your adapter's IP address, if it is 192.168.0.X (where x is any number up to 255) then your default gateway is most likely 192.168.0.1

If you IP address is not 192.168.0.X and/or your default is not 192.168.0.1 then we can rule out an IP conflict with ICS.

I don't have a DS so I'm not familiar with the USB connector. But a few things to try would be to first completely remove the listing for it under Network Adapters (right-click and select uninstall.) Then try installing the software again.

To see if windows firewall is on (there are many ways to check but this will be pretty standard) go to the Control Panel and select Network Connections (if the view is in Category View, switch to Classic View.) Find the adapter in question (usually listed as LOCAL AREA CONNECTION) and right-click on it and selct PROPERTIES. Go to the ADVANCED tab and it should say if it's turned on. If you are using SP2 (service pack 2) then click SETTINGS in the Windows Firewall tab and that will also tell you if it is running.

Also you can quickly look in the Add/Remove Programs window to scan for any other listing for a software firewall like ZoneAlarm. If you have an Antivirus program like Norton's or McAfee, it may be an actual internet suite which includes a firewall like Norton Internet Security or McAfee Internet Security Suite. If you have either of those running, turn them off temporarily before you install the USB software.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but like I said I don't have one so I've never messed around with it.

Nintendo add-ons for computers are inheritidly dumb. Namely usually lacking auto-recognition. Try starting the install, then actually plug it in when it tells you to. Could be that simple, could just hate you.

As for the firewall, a lot of computers now-a-days are coming with McAffee installed on 'em. But you'd see an icon for it in yer icon tray.

Following what VioletSkye might help a bit. Not knowing what type of computer, how old, OS, etc. can't really let me help much.
